Hi All, Please let me know the best way to improve vocab..for now i am cramming up as much as i can..

as per my observation cramming words seldom helps for cat
regarding vocabs in CAT the type of questions you can expect
since CAT has gone online are:

different usage of same word (classic advise/advice in cat 200
questions based on homonyms (fill in the blanks with similar sounding words)
based on word usage (one word , 5 sentences based on usage of the word and you've to find the wrong usage)
for homonyms, you can use this site :
Alan Cooper's Homonym List
it's not exclusive, a few search on google will give you better sites and more words

over all read national and international news in the Hindu,
The Hindu : News
it's a good section
for basic vocabs and getting a hang of grammar

Yes last year whn i enrolled with CL, CP centre they had a batch on Sunday 6 hrs with a break.

I myself enrolled for IMS correspondence last year and I was not much disappointed. Mock tests' quant was comparitively easier but Verbal was quite appreciative. Another good point was all tests are available on the online mode, which is not the case with TIME mocks. If you miss it, you miss it. But the problem was IMS mocks are not taken up by many students so you don't get the idea of percentile and where you stand in the crowd.

I had joined IMS class room program last year. Faculty were good, giving ample time to my doubts.But their test series was a big blunder, no management.

starting with IMS material is not bad idea, it covers the basic but I will suggest go for Time materials.

AIMCAT is better to join.

based on last 3 years data, most of the exams should have a slot on weekend

but after july-august TIME has shown trends to conduct 2 aimcats in a week this goes on for 1-2 weeks.
In 2009 it happened because time had to shift from paper pencil version to online version
and in 2011 it has happened because time had to take a week off to modify aimcats according to the new pattern

TIME Aimcats has a window of one week generally. I have always been able to appear it on weekends. So no worries about it. But at times weekend slots get full immediately. So you have to keep an eye on mails and soon as slot booking opens up, Book it.

Its not difficult once you dedicatedly work on you preparation. It could be initially difficult but eventually it gets easier. Initially i had picked up study material from IMS and took my studies lightly. But once you get a hang of the questions you will enjoy working on them. and also these institutes are of great help. You can get all your queries sorted through them. So all the very best.

How about taking Time rather, much better than ims...Kindly advertise TIME as well then...

If somebody has an experience of 3 years with any IT Giant and afterwards with some Publi Sector Banks(like SBI, PNB etc) for another 2 years -- Then does that actually decreases his/her chance with the TOP BSCHOOLS(Like Top20), because his/her experience becomes almost 5years by then.

I am telling if the candidate still scores 98%ile above??

Im from a non engineering background so quant is definitely my weakest point! Hoping to get a few suggestions and all the best to everyone out there!

Self preparation might just be a little difficult since you are working. Get the right study material is what i suggest.. i have too done the same.
I have begun my preparations with the IMS study material. It apparently is very useful. Easy to understand. Prepare for 100 questions per day and also have a time management. Go through the study material and for any queries their website is of great help..

most colleges will not shortlist based on work ex,
still an experience of 3.5 yrs work ex will not prove to be a
spoilsport in selection in MOST of the bschools
in SOME colleges 4-5 years work-ex is not considered advisable

i think this can be beneficial if you can cite adequate reasons.
"i got to play a larger role, i got a managerial profile" etc

have good clarity on your story

what you have been doing and the reasons > why mba > your long term goals..
make it logically coherent. it doesn't have to be the truth. you can embellish it
but you must be able to withstand the crossfire of questions that can come from anything you mention.

You have the answer yourself. There are candidates who prepare for over a year whereas there are others who prepare only for a couple of weeks or months. The ideal way is to take a couple of diagnostic assessment exercises/tests and see how you fare in each of the topics (yes! drill down even to the topics in each subject). This will give you clarity on strengths and weaknesses. Draw your strategy thereafter. Do revert if you need further clarifications!

as long as you can provide a experience certificate and explain the relevance of your work ex in GD I do not think it should be a huge issue.

thnx arpit for ur reply.. my shifts are morning(7 to 3 hrs),evng(3 to 11 hrs) n nite(11 to 7 hrs).wat abt ur shifts? n which company are u working in?..im also trying to study for atleast 2 hrs during weekdayz n 4 to 6 hrs during off day..but the main problem which im facing is regularity which is difficult to achieve due to these godamn shifts..anyways trying to focus as much as possible as not much time is left for entrance exams..also other problem in shift job is that one cannt join any classroom coaching centre..anyways lets c wat happens..all d best man..!!

It is best to plan out one's own schedule rather than try and take inputs from others. Each individual can study/grasp certain topics during specific times of the day. So you may be happy solving quants in the morning and perhaps leave reading/vocab for days when you are free in the evenings. You have the magic formula within you. So plan it out and take off. Good Luck!

You can call their centre (number available on site) for the fees. Discounts may not be possible.

My friend is using test funda and i have heard good reviews from him.....But i will go for time series this year..!

testfunda has a unique method of preparation called Rankbooster where you can set various parameters like:
1.level of difficulty
2. number of questions
3. chapters for the mock test (hence you can test yourself chapter wise)
all the questions present were from previous CAT/XAT/JMET/SNAP/FMS papers.

do check out it's trial version.it'll be helpful to people who are giving the exam for a second time and are not strong in certain concepts

Agree wholeheartedly with others. Many institutes prefer candidates who can balance both. After all they are admitting budding managers who can be on top of things. So, burn the midnight oil and prepare well. Good Luck!

While it is understable that it is very tough to prepare when you are working in different shifts, I think the key word is HABIT. You must ensure that you spend at least some time on your preparation every day - even if it is at least 15 minutes or half an hour. While that may sound ridiculous, believe me when I say that it helps and gradually you will increase the time automatically. If you are travelling in a cab, you can spend some time there - also I suggest that you invest in a tablet, scan few pages of the material and study a bit every day. If you can solve five problems before going to bed, do that. Of course, in your case, you need to spend more time during weekends or off days - that may require a bit of sacrifice on the fun part in the short term but think of what it could pay you back in the long term.

As rest of the puys suggested, don't quit your job dude! I agree job can be very demanding at times...But, you will always get free time at some point or the other...Try to make use of it completely...It is quite beneficial both profile-wise as well as monetarily as well...:-P

based on a few of my friend's experience few colleges don't take a gap in job positively.
think about it, if there are 10 students who have same percentile and same acads and 24 months work-ex because they did not resign and you have 12 months work-ex and 1 year gap, If you were in the selection committee whom would you select?
