RCs form an integral part of VA, for improvement of RCs there are 3 key things according to me,hope it helps u,

1. Read a variety of topics before-hand, so that you aren't entirely bamboozled when its on the screen . The objective is to be familiar with the topic to increase your comfort zone.

2. Enrich your vocabs, while reading RCs now, try to understand each and every line, immediately stop where you are unable to interpret it,try to find the reasons y, and work on it.

3. Read the q, and try to eliminate 2 options, which are can be easily done usually. When you have understood the para, the ambiguity between the options reduce and it helps u select the right one.

Keep readin and practicin, let ur intuition guide durin the times of confusion ,and intuition is reliable, when u have practiced hard.

Hello man, kudos to your confidence and determination for which you have performed quite well as I can see. You just need to work a bit harder in VA, and I am quite sure you can succeed in any exam. :)

guys just let me know one thing that if i dont get enrolled in the cl non cat test series but want to give a few exams under the noncat series like mock xat,mock fms,then can i buy those individual papers and give the particular test, in test taking conditions with other students.

Now i am always told that whatever you do you cannot match up with the guys who are from icse and cbse and have read shakespeare all along.

Well determined to prove them otherwise i developed a habit of reading bookswhich till today is my favourite past time, although i am more of a fiction lover.

Well my question is that i have already given cat for 2 years as you can see in my signature, Well in both the cases i cleared cuttofs in di and lr but in va my percentile always hovers between 80-85 percentl.

Even the mocks that i give va seems to be the only problem.

Although i am preparing tough this tym i am a bit apprehensive regardin my va.

Well my approach being - i normally attempt all the questions with 50 percent accuracy.:-(

Please do help me if there are any methods or strategies that i may adopt.

visit the official GK thread for 2010 and the type of questions that you will see on that thread are generally asked.apart from this if you are studying in any coaching centre then i think they will also provide you with gk materials probably three or four weeks before the exam starts.

Generally the type of gk questions asked in IIFT include-merger and acquisitions of various companies,ceo...chairman..md of various companies,capital,currencies....matching presidents,prime ministers etc etc according to their countries....punchlines of various companies,location and topic of discussion in various global summits like G20,G8...venues of international tournaments...authors of various books....few geographical questions like which national park,or forest or mountain is situated where etc etc.. name of the awardees of various awaeds like khel ratna,arjuna award,dronacharya award and things like this.

The best way to prepare is that you read the Economic Times thoroughly and you will ace the gk section with flying colours.apart from this you may also read magazine like Competition Success which i personally believe is quite useful

You should try to get the previous year IIFT papers and check out the questions for yourself. But yes, they are mostly business/trade related but non-business questions are also present.

Hello guys, I have a question.

I know the number table in my native Language - Marathi. I don't even know what's it called in English, but lets presume its called number table. e.g. (2,4,6,8,10 or 12,24,36,48,60)

Now I can mug up the number tables from 11-19 and 21-29 in Marathi because I've already done that when I was in school. But I never mugged up those tables in English. So I want to ask is it worth to try to mug up those tables in English? Will it help me to get to the answer more quickly? I don't care how much time it takes, but I want to be perfect in something that will help me in future. Like when somebody asks me how much is 15 sixza? I should be able to calculate it in English directly. I know I'm not making any sense. But if you're getting what I'm trying to say, can you help me with this?

I'm not very sure why you only want to calculate in English, when you can easily do the job in your native language. You can work it out mentally and say in English, right? Atleast that should work according to me. And if you continue doing that, calculating in English would become second nature to you.

I used to be in the same boat as you. Couldn't score above 85%ile in any mock until AIMCAT 1115 (although to my credit, I've finished less than 50% of the course and haven't touched maths since my school days). I realized that this was largely because I was putting myself under too much pressure. I would choke up and not finish questions I could crack in 2 minutes at home.

With AIMCAT 1115, I changed my approach - I went in with a relaxed frame of mind, didn't bother about the consequences. Moreover, I told myself that MBA is not the end of the world, just a stepping stone.

My score in AIMCAT 1115 jumped up to 98%ile. Even though 1114 wasn't as good as 1115, I still expect to score above 90%ile, and in CL Proc-Mock-4, the percentile predictor says that I would score around 97%ile.

Am I happy? Yes. Relieved? Yes. More confident? Definitely yes. I'm definitely not satisfied, but with half the course still unfinished, at least I'm on the right track.

So just relax, treat it like any other exam (after all, I'm pretty sure you've taken 50+ exams in your life by now. How is this any different?) and you'll see a definite change in your %ile

but i am tho more/less finished with my syllabus ... :-(
its just practice that i keep doing,
reading articles and improving vocab + questions 4 verbal ability
and tests and questions 4 quant and LRDI

i am in my final year of DCE, the following are my % in the past few exams
proc1:85(dint attempt va)
unproc1:55(attemptd all va ques)
proc2:86(attemptd equally in the 3 sections)
time 1112:82
proc3:90(panickd in the quant section, scored exceptionally well in VA, and miserably low in LRDI)
unproc4:89(found paper easy, marked a few wrong by mistake)
proc4:73(expected %, really dont know what went wrong
VA- 10correct 9wrong
QA- 6 correct 4wrong
LRDI- 4correct 7 wrong)
I used to be very fast and bright in maths, i still ans most of the ques in class and perform well.. but i really dont know what happens 2 me during the paper, and now seeing that i am not able 2 score in LRDI, i am fearing it
Please suggest me what 2 do, where am I lacking, what should I do? Feeling extremely depressed, is there still time? Would I be able 2 score 98% and above in the CAT, considering the fact college placements have also started and will continue till May 2011.:-(

Today I got a mail from IMT offering admission for the PGDM Gaziabad dual country programme.
I have no idea at all about this programme.Only information that I could gather is it is dual country programme(as the name suggests) , one year in Dubai and the other in IMT-G campus.The final placement and orientation is supposed to be held in IMT-G.

If anyone of you know anything about this kindly share.It would of great help.

PS:I converted IMT-N last year and I have already started preparing for CAT 2010.

Hi Nikhil,
Your scores are absolutely fine as far as eligibility is concerned. Most of the B-Schools ask 1ly above 60% marks. Final selection depends on many criteria like marks, work exp, performance in GD/PI and how is the profile of other applicants. I feel u hav got decent scores and now u shud work on written and GD/PI preparation.

Hey Nick,

There is no reason to worry about ur scores, ur xperience etc etc...just score a good percentile,and let other things rest peacefully in a grave .Look at the things which u can change now,the past can never b changed, moreover u got decent marks, so thats alryt. Improve ur xtra-currics,open up ur mind to things goin around u, have an opinion about various matters, look upon ur oratory skills, its like b jack of all trades, and the day which matters, b the master or act like one or just b urself

Hi, IMS has also changed its SimCAT schedule. The last SimCAT starts from 15-Oct-2010 so u can finish all ur tests well before CAT which starts from 27-Oct-2010.

well u see in the first AIMCAT1122 i cleared my english section and in second AIMCAT 1117 i cleared the quants cut off.Basically i am weak in di involving tables and numbers. so i would like to get an advice on what should i do now to increase my speed at calculation and i am also weak in sentence correction. is there any online material which i could study to improve it.

Hi Vignesh, For Eng I wud recommend u "English Usage for CAT" by Sujith Kumar, Pearson Education. U can google for "Common English Usage Errors" u ll get plenty of material. I strongly believe that u can't learn grammar by cramming rules bcoz there r as many exceptions as there r rules. What u can do is practice sentence correction Q's alot and do the analysis 1ce the test is over. Try to attempt d same Q's paper again after 6-7 days u may make the same mistake again but this time when ull see the explanatory ans u ll not forget bcoz dis ll be the revision or u may try the third time. "M Tyra" is a good resource if u wanna expediate ur calculation.

CL hasn't changed it's schedule till now.

And as I said to you earlier, stop speculating, and join asap. Time never comes back. And so do mocks.

Hi Vignesh,

D best option for you is to practice full length test papers in fully simulated condition. Do thorough analysis of all the question u got wrong, Correct and u skipped. Make a chart wid 4 columns - Eng, Quant, DI/LR and Net score. Enter ur score after each test. After u hv taken 5-6 tests u will see a pattern emerging. U may be consistantly geting low/high score in sum sections. Start working on them. Suppose u r regularly getting low scores in Quant dan u need to brush up d concepts and likewise in all the other sections.

for d purpose of CAT what u can do is to remember the reciprocals and square, cube, square root and cube roots of numbers up to 50. For fast calculation u can also use approximation. it is very helpful. There is a book by "M Tyra". this buk will help u in fast calculation and mental maths. Last but not the least CAT & XAT do not contain a lot of calculation intensive Q's. Its more of logic.

Ummm...Newbee here, but I do have a query concerning CAt/XAT 2010.

I want to attempt CAT/XAT 2010 but I'm not sure if I'm eligible or not. Here's my exact situation :

I joined Engineering in 2004 and have technically(according to VTU) achieved 'Course completion' in 2008, i.e I've finished my 8th sem project. The problem is that around 6th sem, due an accident and me messing up a lot I managed to acquire several Backlogs(In case anyone was wondering I failed in several subjects) and have dubiously enough not yet cleared them. I'm hoping to clear the lot of 'em in Dec 2010 and am pretty sure I can do it.

Apart from that LARGE glitch above mentioned I have a pretty good (atleast better than average >_>) Academic record with 93% and 90% in X and XII respectively and 73% aggregate in B.E. before the above mentioned Glitch. Now according to VTU rules The final aggregate is only calculated after I clear all the pending subjects.

My question is this : AM I eligible for CAT/XAT 2010, as this obviously constitutes as a repeatition(which negates me from SNAP) ?

Would be highly gratefull if someone could clarify this for me.

if the aggregate of ur cleared exams out of the total max marks is 50% or above, then u r eligible to give CAT n all....for example if your total of your cleared exams is 400 out of 800 (the total max marks including the papers that you still need to clear), then u r eligible else not...

i am pretty sure of this as i faced the same thing in my grad...so all the best and i hope its above 50%

Now according to VTU rules The final aggregate is only calculated after I clear all the pending subjects.

My question is this : AM I eligible for CAT/XAT 2010, as this obviously constitutes as a repeatition(which negates me from SNAP) ?

Would be highly gratefull if someone could clarify this for me.

The TIME online sectional tests do NOT give percentiles.

Once we have completed each test, we get the:

1. no. of correct answers
   
2. no. of wrong answers
   
3. no. of unattempted questions
   
4. net marks
   

PLUS a tabulation of your attempts with question-wise explanation of the answer.
