Not trying to argue here but engineers and maths there is not much connection buddy I mean theoretically yes we are supposed to be in touch and know mathematics inside out And there is an additional handicap for us.Ask any engineer to multiply a pair of double digit numbers and give him a paper n pen as well. You will find him searching desperately for his "scientific calculator" Trust me CAT is a level playing field

Cant agree more. In fact being an engineer and seeing several classmates take CAT with me I feel engineers struggle as much as others if not more.Come on CAT maths is just High school mathematics twisted a bit And the high proportion of engineers making it to IIM's each year can be explained by the fact that most students in India just take up either engineering or medical after XII. What about the recent increase in doctors making it to the IIM's? Where do they get their Maths from?

Engineers doing well in quants is just a myth.Anybody in this country can get a engineering seat, so you are not alone .In fact mastering verbal is more difficult than quants and you are at an advantage actually. And about DI you can improve DI only thru practice . You will feel comfi when mocks start though you may not do well initally .

hey, good to see so many people around. Sorry for not replying earlier on.. I am going to be taking CAT the first time. I guess, the common argument that being an engineer-in-the-making i shouldn't find quant that hard doesn't hold good in my case. I am not great at it. So much so, that i have not even worked on my BRM's for quant. Verbal is more my forte. At least i enjoy verbal.Logical Reasoning is good fun , so that's okay too. I have big-time problems with DI . How about you guys?Strengths?Weakness?

Kartik, That was for the junta to not conclude on the basis of your summaries (in case you don't delete it). Thanks for deleting it Do read the posts well before you come to conclusions. Thank you.

I guess its high time you stop yourself from misguiding the junta here (not just with respect to this post but several of the 150 posts you have posted so far. several ppl have taken note of this and groaned...well i am refraining myself from doing the same). I seriously don't understand if you actually read that post of mine, despite quoting it. And, based on what phantom has said above, I hope you don't post your conclusion that IMS is best to get into IIMC and Time is best for getting into IIMB. As tempting as it may be, I am refraining from saying anything further.
Please stop this activity of coming to conclusions based on hear-say or rather your perception of the hear-say and the needless summarisations that follow.
I would appreciate if you edit and delete that post of yours.
Thanking you.
dude if u wanna give some commemt plz PM and dont post it os the thread...
I shall not exercise the same restraint viggy... Nothing to add to what you said.. @Karthik...Pls pause and think before you post..This applies to any thread...

Now how did u derive this overall picture here...? All posts go with the caveat that its an individual's perception.. It doesn't matter where you go enroll, it's you who writes the exam in November...The material/classes/mocks is only as good as the student who uses it...A good batch mate last...
Thanx puys... So the overall picture tht can b derived can b (for Chennai only)
Regular classes - IMS has an edge over odrs. Mocks - Time nd IMS both score gud.. Material - depends upon individuals perspection...

It doesn't matter where you go enroll, it's you who writes the exam in November...The material/classes/mocks is only as good as the student who uses it...A good batch mate last year from IMS is at IIMC and Prahlad (ex Time) is at IIMB..
As I said earlier. Different people have different ways of learning and have had different experiences. An IIM guy who studied in IMS would say IMS helped him and from CL would say CL helped him get through. For instance, I was speaking to getintoiimb (Ravi) today about this thread and the post and he said Time's materials are way better than IMS. He found IMS material elementary, which is the quite the opposite of what prahalad says. What matters for you is what suits you best which only you can find out by paying them a visit and finding out for yourself and taking the cost into consideration (if its one of the factors).

Between IMS and TIME,i feel the mock CATs of TIME are definitely better than the rest.Material wise IMS might have the edge (along with CL) When i prepared for CAT 06 i registered for the TIME aimcat series and also got the CL material. Was a classroom student of IMS in 2005.
I second that ! It certainly is a close call between TIME and IMS.But then since i'm not too sure about the material offered by the other institutes,i'd say go to the institute and talk to the guys there. Should help,in my opinion. Just my two cents..

Puys.. can u please tell me which wud b the best coaching insti in Chennai. IMS / CL??

Hi Monster,
Theres nothing like the best coaching institute...for if there would have been one, the rest would have lost out to them. A lot of people join time and time's mocks are really close is the word. IMS students say their classes are really good with good teachers and their mocks are diverse and prepare the students for surprises and improve the versatility. CL students say the numbers are small at CL and so they get better attention and more care and nurturing at their centres. (I was an IMS test-taker last year and a TIME test-taker this year. The reason behind my decisions were the instis were cheaper in those years. Time did not give me a discount last year. They gave me a discount this year.)
Every one of them have their own advantages and all of them produce toppers. It would be better if you go down to the coaching institutes and have a chat with the staff and join the one which you feel would be most suited for you. Ask them the zillion questions that you have in mind and make the decision.
On a more serious note, the threads do not have spamming. And messages like "CL is better", "Time is the leader" or "IMS is No. 1" will not turn up (if that is what you expected). All the best for your preparations.
