Hi,
Cut-offs are based upon our reserach and normalised scores. Just to let you guys in on some other things that u may not be aware of.
1. Almost 80% of the questions that we include in a test go through a statistical process of validation where we are able to map out the expected percentage of correct responses when included in a test. This is our core competency, and these tools are not used for CAT prep alone but for a whole lot of other ventures that I am a part of.
2. Even before u take the test, we know the likely spread of scores and these I can state with a very high accuracy. (BTW that is my bread, butter and honey job).
3. And we know how hipos (high performers) are likely to perform. This enables us to create more balanced and scientific tests and good performers will generally score well. I am sure that you have seen this trend in your scores in CAV MoCATs. Your performance will be largely consistent. That is the essence of an aptitude tests.
4. For CAT, however, we have to add the element of surprise, unpredicatability, and shock value. These will be more apparent when you take the same tests in an exam environment. It is my bet that if you were to take our tests in the real CAT environment, then your scores would be 10-15% down. Which means that added pressure in CAT brings down performance even in an easy test (for most people).
5. We have been in this field of tesing and measurement for a long time and do a lot of hi-end stuff. For us, one glance at a test is sufficient to predict cut-offs based on audience. Infact as a part of our training, when I give a particular test to a student I know well, I know excatly how he will score (give or take 1-2 marks).
Anyway, please do noy publish net scores and cut-offs till cut-off time to submit the scores. Also, freebies section is as of yet for CAV registered students and are related to our classroom and correspondence programs. So it is of no use to you now.
But we are experimenting with something, and you will definitely find quite a few freebeies by the time we see the next Classic MoCAT on pagalguy.
Cheers
Amit
Just finished taking MoCAT 5, and uploading the results onto CAV's website. Whle there, I noticed a "My Instant Score NEW" link in the menu on the left. Tried it and voila, my scores for MoCAT 5 are:
QA - 16.35 ( 13 correct, 4 incorrect )
DI - 25.35 ( 22 correct, 4 incorrect )
RC - 34.04 ( 39 correct, 11 incorrect )
Net - 75.74 ( 74 correct, 19 incorrect )
Thought I had just scraped through the test, but the score seems to spell out a different story. Let's wait and see how it goes for the others. As expected, no percentiles are available, but surprisingly the cut-offs are (aren't they decided on the basis of how the test-taking janta performs):
QA - 17
DI - 18
VA - 20
And they do look a bit steep. I am not clearing the QA cut-off:huh:.
P.S.
@Mods, if this post is inappropriate because it mentions the scores and cut-offs before everybody has finished taking the test, I'll edit it.
@CAT Janta, don't forget to click on the "My Freebies" link in the menu on the left hand-side. Thanks Amit, but don't you think that that link too deserves a snazzy NEW beside it.
