Being on the admission team ,you must be having an idea whether u are taking the 50%ile sectional as elimination criteria or not(in the QA) section..And if not, just plz elaborate on the "waiting to receive scores from IIMs part" i'm a bit hazy on what that exactly means..I thought you would put the applicant's roll nos n check there cat scores from the website..
AND, what do you traditionally do when you receive scores from IIMs..look at the overall , or does a guy usually get eliminated even if hes got a high OA but <50%ile in QA..

Your answer will help me out IMMENSELY..

Hi Rumit,

The IIM bit is simple. All institute that take CAT as one of the selection criteria have to send the list of students applying to them to IIM for their official scores. Only upon receiving those, we can shortlist the students. So till we get these 'official scores' we do not sit down and say let's have this or that as cut-offs.

chances for call majorly depends on what you have written in the Sop in the form.... why i am saying that coz MICA gives out profile based calls and gives out calls to even a 87 percentiler also... so chill

the ball is in their court...

P.S: You can believe me coz last year i got final call from Mica...but opted out due to something personal...

How will you know even if you get a call??? You must have your MICA form no!!! Now do the following. Write to luv@mica.ac.in and request him to send you the form no. Be nice to him and he should mail you back! Give him two days to reply. He is loaded with work!

The two year PGPCM at MICA will NOT teach you how to make advertisments. It is not a course that provides you input for creative side in ad agency but for the managerial side. So please be clear about it. Also, visit the other thread on MICA Gyaan etc...there are similar queries being answered there.

does MICA look into profiles while giving out calls??

Here is my story
OA-93.8 - 97 in va but 41%ile in QA.
I went through target mica 07 thread and saw that a person with 91 overall and 42 in QA didn't get a call..Which was a bit surprising since he had scored well in english and in quant the benefit of doubt couldve been given..I'm hoping this year's criteria is a bit more in sync with MICA's curriculum (which should give weightage only to bad scores in VA if anything since as far as i know u don't need to be great at CAT type maths for being able to follow account planning/market research etc.) And i definitely feel a good OA percentile with a v good VA score definitely merits atleast a call for MICAT..you can always judge the capabilities further over there..

Neway my request is this:
I have a good job opportunity which would require confirmation in the next week. I would not join if i was sure of getting a call but seeing last year's scene i just want to know :
I know you cannot predict the sectionals as of yet..but i just want you to make an informed guess..What do you think..if you HAD to take one side :Will i get a call for MICAT? (quant sectional worry)...

Plz respond ASAP as i need to take a decision soon..The job nowhere near compares to my feelings for MICA but the situation is such that i can't afford to lose it if i dont have much chance of a call..plz be honest..:)

I Won't be on PG for some time to come now so lets hope it goes good for all of us..I can totally relate to your anxieties..having dropped a year for MICA and now having my chances marred because of a poor day in quant -
VA-98.4, DI-96 , QA-48.4 :((.... I know that my score doesn't reflect my aptitude for the subject..N i fervently hope that MICA doesn't take the 50%ile benchmark for sectionals or maybe my OA makes up for it..ope to gawd the elimination is not computerised..
but thats about as much as I can do at present..Ah well, that's how life is..

All I want to say is Congratulations in advance to all those who get a call...

And also a piece of humble advice for people who don't- Please do not insult your intelligence by making "hate" or "rage venting" threads like the ones I noticed last year..
Firstly, it makes you look like frustrated fools..
Secondly, it is of no help ..rather it just keeps the misery fresh in ur mind..
And lastly, what's happened has happened...we might not be able to understand or appreciate the reason behind it..but that's the way the cookie crumbles..Let's just try to take it with a pinch of salt..:)p
Keep in mind that I might well be one of those not getting a call and being devastated by it..

So here's a toast to clarity..

Career in brand management entails, as the name suggests - managing the brand. The nature of work is related to various functions of marketing. One doesn't need special apptitude as this is not a teachnical job. However, since it requires all management functions, you need to take certain courses and combination of courses while at MICA to be able to do well in your career.

I had sent my application form on the 11th (night)..it was picked up by the courier service(blue dart) on the 12th morning...I was assured that the form would reach by the 14th...now on checking the status of my shipment...they are saying its in transit and the expected delivery date is 16th.....pls advise me on my course of action in case the shipment doesn't reach by tomorrow....

FOR ALL...who have already mailed / couriered their forms...

DOn't worry! Even if we receive it till 18th, we will accept it. We understand that Sankrant/Pongal/Lohri...is a big festival across country and a major holiday combined with weekend. Hence we will accept your form even if it reaches us a bit late. So relaxed!

A copy of your CAT admit card needs to be sent along with filled in application form. If you have downloaded the form, a DD of Rs.1350/- in favour of Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad - payable at Ahmedabad is required.

If you have taken GMAT, a copy of your scorecard is to be attached.

My messy U.G is the biggest worrying factor... At one point of my U.G i had 16 papers of arrears... Most of U.G marksheets read AB(Absent)!!! Do i stand a chance of getting short listed. Even if i get short listed,they would screw me in PI,is there any chance of overshadowing all these nonsenses with a formidable show in MICAT,GD & PI...Please mam...guide me, thank you!

Your CAT score is decent. So you may get shortlisted. But certainly you will be questioned about your academic attitude in PI. You will have to find a way to tackle that Q, whether MICA or any other institute.

One more thing...be careful about the kind of language you use on a public forum.

I know my BBA is low but I went to college outside India and the college did not have its own conversion table but otherwise have A/Bs in Marketing subjects and have a double major Marketing and Economics. Also have won 2 team 1st prizes in case competition and was chosen for mentorship programs in college. Have worked with consultants on a project and was in debating club etc. Also was on high school magazine editorial team. I know I am blabbering a lot but I have never been outstanding, just with bits of spark here and there and I want to know a clear picture of where I stand.

It's a tight squeeze because of the low score in DI... You still have a decent chance. You'll just have to wait till February, I'm afraid :)

Before I reply to everyone, let me tell everyone that the actual cutoff depends on a lot of factors, including how many applications we recieve.

Keeping this in mind, I really cannot predict who will get a call and who will not. Historically, a 87+ percentile has been enough to get a call for the MICAT. Sectionals should ideally be over 50 percentile, but again, depending on the overall and all, a slightly lower percentile in one section could squeeze in.

So I'm going to answer the following questions keeping this in mind, but don't take it as gospel truth

One more thing, if you're worried about your form, call up the admissions office, and ask them if your form has reached.

Sadly at 77 your chances are pretty low, mate... Sorry... For a list of what other colleges you could apply to, check the TIME and IMS websites... They have predicted cut-offs for all the colleges. Best of luck.

80 is a tough call, dudette. If you're interested in other colleges, look up the TIME and IMS websites... But if you're interested in MICA as keenly as you say you are, I'd say give it another shot next year!

VA might be a worry, but I think your GMAT score should see you through.

Dear Proffesor Karthik,.
I had sent my application form on the 11th (night)..it was picked up by the courier service(blue dart) on the 12th morning...I was assured that the form would reach by the 14th...now on checking the status of my shipment...they are saying its in transit and the expected delivery date is 16th.....pls advise me on my course of action in case the shipment doesn't reach by tomorrow....

15th was a goverment holiday here in Gujarat. Please call up the admissions office on the 16th.

I had filled and couriered the admission form through "Blue Dart" on the 12th of Jan '08. I was informed that it will reach you on monday, 14th Jan '08.
But having checked online through the tracking service provided by Blue Dart, it shows the expected date of delivery as 16th Jan 08. :confused:
I will call the courier company in the morning.
My waybill no. is : 11877914871

Is there anything i can do??
