b-school rankings on pg will always gve the aspirants a much clearer picture than ne websites or surveys...that is my personal opinion...meant no offence

Hey their are many of the websites which provide you the B school rankings.

Even you can get the B school rankings on google search but which will be the prefect ranking as the ranking is different as you go on different website.?

my top 10 ranking would be IIM A,C,B,L ,XL,FMS,JBIMS,IIMK,SPJIMR,IIM I. inthat particular order . i am sure many would agree with it .

PS: including ISB in rankings does not make any sense , its a completely differeny league , many rate it even above IIM A,B,C .

Fairly accurate ranking, but for sequencing of 4,5,6. Its very difficult to sequence L, XL and FMS in an order. Although they are 4 to 6 undoubtedly.
However, you will find very few(I have known none) students choosing XL over either L or FMS(unless they are HR lovers). Which is why I feel XL is 6th. Between L and FMS for 4th and 5th, you will find almost equal cross movement, so its very difficult to compare

btw he was not rank 1 in MH CET , he was rank 1 in mumbai . his score was 151 ,rank one was another guy named gaurav from pune , he had a score of 158 . just saying

Exactly I liked the words "personal priorities" and "equally good colleges" in your post. Each one of them have pluses and minuses.

I've only given an example. We could include current rank 4 to current rank 12/14 in cluster 2 if we want. No worries

It will be very interesting if Pagalguy can introduce some kind of a "Converts" ranking as a sequel to these current aspirants rankings. Get the students who have converted "x" number of calls to rate their converts in the order of preference.

Maybe divide the institutes into clusters based on these current rankings to facilitate this.

For example, according to the current PG rankings, IIM ABC will form the top 3 in some order. So let them be cluster 1.

Similarly, let FMS, ISB, IIM L, XL be cluster 2

Let IIM K, IIM I, IIFT, SPJIMR, JBIMS, IIT B be cluster 3 and so on

Now let people who have multiple converts within each cluster, rank their converts in order of preference. Obviously, the logistics/credibility of the poll will have to be worked on.

This will give a true picture of the most prefered institutes for students who were good enough to crack them. I believe this will be the most genuine form of rating possible, straight from the horse's mouth (the aspirants who will join the school and would have done their research and homework), away from propaganda and ignorance.

I think it will make for very interesting reading

I am totally disagree with these rankings because of following reasons.

IIM C > IIM B?

MDI > IIM I ?

IIFT > JBIMS ?

IIFT > MDI ?

IIFT > NITIE ?

I think IIFT and IIM I are over rated and New IIMs, MDI, IITM, NITIE are under rated..

1st 15 ranks perfect , bt just feel that IIFT ranked above JBIMS,SPJIMR is not fair , anyone who has converts from JB,SP JAIN nd IIFT will definately prefer the other 2 over IIFT .

How can SIMSREE (sydenham mumbai ) get such a low rank. Is it because it does not advertise for itself or what. It has the best ROI after JB in entire western india

Okay, I have gone through the results and I am disappointed. Disappointed because it is on PG. People quote stuff that they have heard on PG as true facts even in the Interviews and GDs for admission into B-Schools. I think it is time that PG stopped doing these perception stuff like some petty magazines do to increase their circulation... social responsibility and all that management jargon you know !

In my opinion there needs to be a complete re-shuffle of the list. ISB which is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 Management institutes in the world is at 7th place in that list, which I think, to put it mildly, is a flaw. This ranking on PG is misleading. Out of the people checking this list, a vast majority (surely more than half) will never read the methodology or understand that it is perception based or even what is a perception based ranking. That way, this list will do more harm than good to the public.

I request that PG put up a disclaimer and a much bigger and visible note that these are just the views of general public and not ranks based on facts and figures on the page leading to the list and on the page displaying the ranks.

Who am I ? I am just another aspirant who has done his homework about the institutes based on placements, fees, location, company profiles, transparency of the mandatory disclosure, faculty and above all the feel and vibe of the college in the industry and among the students. I made my own criteria and asked around for more than an year. I suggest everyone to do that about the colleges they want to join. Please dont go on any of the rankings at all, there is a big chance that you will end up in a place you dont want to end up at.

PS : What you read above, if you read it, are my views on B-School Rankings on the whole including rankings by magazines (which many of the HR guys in the industries laughed at) and even by the coaching classes.

Sectorial B-School should have a different ranking released..wid certain parameters that are specific to sectorial b-Schools.

When i put up the ET link, my point was simple, data based rankings are mostly full of biases and other considerable favors, so in a sense, PG rankings are much more realistic and represent a wider view of the audience.

But i have a slight concern. PG over the years has built a reputation of integrity and authentic reporting. The PG rankings have caused a lot of dissent among many forum members which is very common in a free democratic society like ours where even the governments find it difficult to reach any consensus on most issues. But the harsh and sarcastic language used by PG moderators against some dissenting members, trying to show their lack of business knowledge etc is surely something which can be avoided.

Well, after going through the posts on this thread and observing a vast array of diversified reactions ranging from strongly agree, agree, to disagree, strongly disagree; only one thought crossed my mind:

"If you are one of those people who would buy a toothpaste just because it claims to keep your teeth bacteria free 24x7, or a bike that claims to transform you into the fastest Indian on road; you would be worried about where your preferred institute stands in these rankings!"

All B-School rankings are an attempt to create a buzz about the rating agency so that it could successfully sell it's products / services and generate revenue greater than or equal to the marginal advertising cost!

The very fact that an admin from PG had to write up such a lengthy and inflaming post for a reply by a person hardly known in the forum shows how desperate PG is to defend what they have done. That defending sounds like a very positive thing to do, but that is positive only if what one is defending is the right stuff. Here though, that is not the case. And the fact that you have dissected my post and replied only to specific parts of it, shows, what you think are the weak points of these rankings ..

You say I might me piqued by your tone, the truth is that I am amused. I am amused that you say, you have put in a lot of effort into this, yet you got the whole thing wrong. I know that it is wrong because, nothing that I wrote in that post was what ' I ' thought, except for asking for a re-shuffle. It was all based on data and what people who go for placements to several of these institutes had to say about those institutes.

As for your perception about me not knowing anything about business, I have only one thing to say, you must be one hell of an astrologer. From two sentences, that mean nothing like what you make out them to be, you deduced so much !! Also, those statements never said PG is petty or the marketing tools are petty. I said that the magazines that have nothing to do with MBA, yet release an MBA rankings at the time of admissions, are petty.

And as for saying hundred times about the methodology and people still not taking note of it, that is because, like any business advertising, those are fine prints. (And you sound like one of those company's marketing guys - "We always give statutory warnings") You ask if there should be a bonfire....I say there should be, solely because it is the most important information that those referring to the rankings should understand! If you are interested in knowing how bad the situation is, try putting up a poll asking how many of them have read the fine print(methodology). I am sure that out of the 8000 intended respondents even 50% will not vote on it .. because they did not see it at all !

Differences would be there and they are bound to occur but then I guess you can't satisfy everyone with one ranking.Everyone would feel their college is better in comparison with others.Its a Human nature !!

I believe biggest factor of New IIM's being ranked low is that everyone in Ist place is skeptical about their performance.. The location is not helping as people are unsure of companies visiting these places.. Though placement reports of Rohtak and Ranchi look pretty promising but THOSE top recruiters are missing.. And if am not wrong some companies visit institutes only 5 years old.. So i believe it'll take about that much time to guage their actual standings.. Though i see some of these New IIM's edging past the others..

I am not sure how well your 1st point goes well with Ranking. If we consider new IIM's... there are hardly any alumni base and thus based on this it should have been rated much lower.....

Dude, This is because of absence of proper perception influencing factor for New IIM's. As per my observation they have ranked low.

No no.. It (private B-schools related statement) was not a point but an obervation :)
It is even given in that article which I pointed out.

Point from article:
"For the first time, our Top 12 list is comprised entirely of government-owned business schools, with the exception of XLRI Jamshedpur and ISB Hyderabad"

Now coming to criterion; as you said it does not play a significant role. But it can still play some role. So, criterion may not be able to make difference of 5 to 6 ranks; but it can still play role in changing rank by 1 or 2 for some colleges. And that is what might have happened

Also, one more observation is that private B-schools have lost out a bit. So, this may be a factor in SP Jain going down a bit. Also, its criteria is always unclear. Profile based calls, higher percentage of women etc. are the factor which are not clear to candidates and hence, it may have been less preferred.

Coming to the point of new IIMs; you are very correct. With their cutoff for calls itself above 97%ile, along with brand IIM; they will make their way up soon. But as you said in your example, many would prefer new IIMs over some other colleges in ranks 15-30 :)

About New IIM's i think it'll take about 5 years to reach level of well-established Non-IIM institutes.. Primarily coz thats when they'll have top recruiters coming in and 5 years is a good enough time to judge an institute.. But i believe not all of New IIM's will make the cut and some might still be on par or below Non-IIM institutes...
