Okay, I have gone through the results and I am disappointed. Disappointed because it is on PG. People quote stuff that they have heard on PG as true facts even in the Interviews and GDs for admission into B-Schools. I think it is time that PG stopped doing these perception stuff like some petty magazines do to increase their circulation... social responsibility and all that management jargon you know !
We have explained hundreds of times why we think data-based rankings are a non-starter. Please go through past threads and get well-versed with it.
Secondly, don't treat perception like some sort of a pariah. It has its place and importance, and someone has to be good at solving the problem of recording perceptions really well.
Obviously magazines do stuff to increase their circulation, just like FMCGs do stuff to sell more soaps, oil cos do stuff to sell more petrol, etc. It does not follow that all means used to increase the sales are automatically petty. There is perhaps a lot lacking in your understanding of business, though, which is surprising that you are on a website about master of BUSINESS administration.
In my opinion there needs to be a complete re-shuffle of the list. ISB which is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 Management institutes in the world is at 7th place in that list, which I think, to put it mildly, is a flaw. This ranking on PG is misleading. Out of the people checking this list, a vast majority (surely more than half) will never read the methodology or understand that it is perception based or even what is a perception based ranking. That way, this list will do more harm than good to the public.
Okay so you don't agree with this list. News: This ranking wasn't built using only you as the respondent. There were over 8,000 of them.
Secondly, people are not dumb to be harmed by one ranking. We always encourage people to form opinions based on composite information. And if anyone does take a wrong call based on just one ranking, they probably deserve it.
I request that PG put up a disclaimer and a much bigger and visible note that these are just the views of general public and not ranks based on facts and figures on the page leading to the list and on the page displaying the ranks.
Like in Impact font, 800 pt size, in bright yellow colour that is visible from the moon? Should we also light bonfires on it?
We put this disclaimer everywhere and the branding of the rankings is "India's most preferred b-schools", NOT the BEST b-schools. If you are worried that people won't read the methodology, why don't you instead spread that message around instead of assailing the rankings?
How many times do you throw the baby along with the bathwater everyday? Would you ban cars because they cause road accidents?
You will probably be taken aback with the strength of tone in my reply, but it piques me that we put in all this hard work into the rankings and then some dude comes up with a weird reasoning that "because people won't read", "because they might be fools", stop this rankings.
I come in peace. Take me to your leader. #http://www.twitter.com/apurv
