On the request of several aspirants , I try to answer questions about PGDM-International Business (IB) program of SIMSR.


What is management in international business?
In the age of globalization, companies are not limited to regional or national level only. They want to explore opportunities across the globe to make profits. By the means of bilateral agreements between countries and group of countries or trade union like EU,NAFTA etc, more and more companies are now involved in international business.
To manage their business functions they need individual who can understand both domestic and international functions of companies. A management education in international business will create functional competencies which would be essential necessary for operating in the international environment.



How it is different from general PGDM/MBA program?
In terms of course curriculum: In first year, PGDM & PGDM IB have common subjects. In the third trimester, Export Import Policy/ Procedure and FEMA are covered as a subject, in addition to the common first year subjects. In fourth & fifth semester we have specialization subjects in addition to common subjects. Choice of one foreign language between French and Spanish, taught throughout the second year.

In terms of Career prospects:
With this kind of course curriculum one have opportunities to work where normal PGDM can work. In addition to this one can also work with international business profile. Many PGDM-IB alumni is working in MNEs & MNC like ABB,PWC , Exim bank etc with international business profile. A key point over here is you can compete with normal PGDM students in placements for the same companies.Moreover,four companies exclusively visited for IB last year. You can switch to IB profile depending upon your career plan.A Key important point here is that you can compete for marketing or finance in final placements.


If the course is so good why the cutoffs were 80.xx last year?
The main reason is lack of awareness among aspirants .But if you analyze the global scenario, International business is future of industry. This is why, in last two years many colleges started IB specific program.


I still have doubt about placements. Can you give idea about placements?
As I stated earlier, PGDM & PGDM IB have common placement process (last year 131 companies). In addition to this, four companies visited exclusively for PGDM-IB. Recently, one PGDM-IB first year student has been selected for international summer internship (Germany) for leading Pharmaceutical & Chemical manufacturer giant.


So, if I have 90+ in CAT , I have BEST opportunities to convert GD/PI call?
NO, you have relatively better percentile in CAT. But your final conversion will be evaluated on the basis of CAT percentile +GD/PI performance Academics +Work ex score. (Personal experience)

What else can I expect From KJ SIMSR PGDM-International Business?
Apart from placements, you will be guided by best of faculties. In addition to this we have international business society (IBS) which is exclusively for PGDM-IB. IBS give us platform to interact with corporate tycoons. Students also contribute to its quarterly publication e-Globuzz, which goes a long way to enhance their perspective of world affairs.

SIMSR have four main admin - student driven cell : Placement Committee, Alumni Committee , Public Relation and Admission Committee.

Is it mandatory that I have to study for some months in foreign?
No, Foreign student exchange program is depend upon individual discretion and performance.

I had filled out the form online for both Form A and Form B options and also made the payment online for 2150/-. The page shows me the link to download only the filled out form of Form B and I could not find any link for getting Form A printed. I have tried logging in selecting Form A and Form B options.No luck yet.

I have also sent a mail to the Admission desk along with the screenshot of my page.

Can any of you please guide how to proceed to get Form A from the website ?

All you need to do is log in , then select the preference for the course PG-IB and then pay rs 500/-. and then the printout of form along with Admit card(if you have posted ur PG form earlier)

Please help on the below mentioned problem ..

I want to fill the application only for 1 probram i.e. PGDM(IB) but initially i had selected both the options and now there is no option to remove my selection ..

one post earlier had mentioned to call up the numbers of the admission desk on doing the same they asked me to E-mail the admission desk and they would solve the problem .. this also i have done .. ( i had actually even mailed the admission desk twice even before calling up the admission desk ... )

so all in all i have sent over 3 E-mails to the admission desk over the last week .. still i am yet to receive a reply ..

I got 93.79%ile in CAT and was thinking of applying to KJ SOM.But I have some problem here.
On my CAT admit card My DOB is 25-01-1990(I filled it by mistake). My original DOB is 26-01-1990. I talked to CAT helpline and they suggested me to get an affidavit signed by a gazetted officer and bring it with me on the date of exam. ALL done and I have recieved my CAT results and no problems uptill now.
But while appling to KJ SOM, I have to mention my DOB in the uploaded pic. and we have to send our CAT admit card also. Now what do I do. They both carry differnt dates. I have the copy of the affidavit. Should I send it that too with the other docs. Would that suffice? Date is approaching so please guys do reply!!

You may send the copy of the affidavit. If CAT authorities were fine with that, so will be SIMSR. Shouldn't be a problem ....

While giving calls, CAT score is of prime interest.

For other acads if lower, you can make up by a good performance in GD-PI process.

Even I am facing the same problem and it is been a long time since I have mailed my form to the college. At that point the photo had to be saved in only DOB format. Now again it has been changed to DOB + first name. What has to be done?
This was the last thing I was expecting after having faced some issues initially as well when I applied well before the first deadline.

Now I have uploaded the pic in the new format. I hope it does not create any other issue now.

dude, the cutoffs for last year have been mentioned innumerable times.... kindly check a few pages back and forth so that it becomes easy for us to handle other genuine queries apart from predicting others' calls...

Regarding tie-ups, the bank has tieups with a couple of banks... will get back to you on this.

It would be a close call, since the cutoff has been 90+ always. 80+ is good for IB though.

Last yr, the cutoff for PGDM was 90+%....
Since the selection process for both the courses MMS and PGDM is separate as CAT is criteria for PGDM and CET is for MMS.
students of both courses sit for the common placement process so in terms of placements there is hardly any difference..

No of intake for PGDM - 120
No of intake for PGDM-IB - 60
No of intake for PGDM-RM - 60
No of intake for PGDM-FS - 60
No of intake for PGDM-Exec - 60

No of intake for MMS- 120

Yes, a candidate can apply through both CAT and MHCET.

This is the first batch of FS so none of the students have been placed yet. And yes CMAT scores are accepted.

This should not be a big problem since you have already sent your application which had your photo,also since you have sent a mail to the ain team they will rectify the error so dont worry.

Since the date for fs is in april you may as well wait for your xat percentile to be announced.fs is 2 year finance mba whereas pgdm just has 1 year of finance as specialization in the second year.

d same thing happened with me..i had a girl photo pasted in place of mine..but luckily after several attempts of refreshing d form i managed to get my photo.u can alternatively try to upload ur photo again by editing the form..no need to worry.it might be due to some system problem.

its not that i dnt know how to check....it sud be the oder way round dat u can suggest admission office dat we sud have option to check dat online also.....den nobody will call and ask dem is my application reached r nt

I had a problem with additional course payment, so I took a DD for 500 and tried to enter the details in the space given for additional course payment and when i click submit, the details are not getting reflected in the printable application form. what shall i do now?? pls help
