ques 1: see first by number crunching find the solution of the eqn like here when y=3 x=13. Henceforth , just decrease the value of x by the coeff. of y (here =-17) and increase the value of y by the coeff of x(here =4) so the next solution would be x=13-(-17) y=3+4 . Repeat the process.Now since a condition is given that x ,=1000 we only find those multiples of 17 which on adding 13 are less than 1000 17x58=986 so x(max)=13+986=999 .Number of solutions =58+1(the first solution ;x=13) . you can use a formula also
no. of solutions = (x(max)/coeff of y) +1

ques 2 : this one was simple number crunching .Think of those squares that have the first 2 digits same .I can think of just one , 441 which is a sqr of 21 .hence b=1

ques 3: if it is 7^84 mod342 then the answer should be 1.
7^3=343 so
(343)^28 mod 342 which is 1

A group of five friends recently met in an alumni meet at their college. When asked about their whereabouts, likes and dislikes by their ex-professors, these friends tried to puzzle their professors by giving them certain clues.

These friends lived in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad and had these cities labeled as 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 not necessarily in that order and arranged on a piece of paper in ascending order of their city labels. Their professions were Architect, Lawyer, Pilot, Scientist and Doctor. These friends liked reading books on fiction, science, business, motivation and literature, played the games from among Football, Cricket, Tennis, Badminton and Chess and also had a special liking for the TV channels from among News, Sports, Business, Entertainment and Geography.

No two people had any of these parameters same i.e. no two of them were from the same city or of the same profession or liked reading the same variety of books or played the same games or had the same TV channel as their favorite.

I start the initiative to discuss at least a set of questions a day and having discussions upon the various sections. I request the puys whoever posting the sets of questions or the answers to mention with the set number alone. This avoids quoting the entire post.

The Chennai PG meet went on good. Thanks to vishal das for organising. We discussed various strategies upon all the sections and about the exams we had planned to give this season. It was wonderful to get to know about each other.. I would love to turn up to the next meet in october before CAT and hope many other Chennai puys who missed will also get to meet each other.. :)

P.S: We missed some of the senior puys like naga.. Hope they ll be in next meet sparing the time to inspire all of us...
