I have a question regarding the Process that B has given for PGP-2011 Admission. They have mentioned:

"All candidates will be required to provide three confidential reference letters from their
employers or faculty and this will also be used in the personal interview evaluation."

Some questions related to this:

1. What does confidential mean in the sentence above? Would we need to get it sealed by our reviewer before we can see what is written inside?
2. How important was it in the previous years?
3. When exactly do we have to submit it - just before the interview? Will they read it then and there?

2) Will my Work-ex (in excess of 60 months) be a hindrance in my final selection? I have a mixed set of industry experience ranging from Semiconductors to IP services.

3) Please let me know any other specifics that I may have missed above. Also, sharing some of the past experiences of candidates with similar background would do a hell of good to me.

I have a pre-MBA work experience of close to 5 years. My interview was purely on personals and work experience. I was not asked anything related to my academics. Its certainly not an engineering viva!

60 months of work experience is not a hindrance as long as you are able to bring out in the interview how your work experience has helped you in improving yourself as an individual.

Regarding preparation, simply introspect. Thats the best way of preparing for PI. Also try to update yourself with current affairs, especially topics which are related to you.

@ Someone who asked about PI + Essay.... Yes, I think it can have a great impact on your final score... Scores in other parameters are closely scattered..... There were a few 100 percentilers last year, who could not make it to the final list of IIMB last year...

Any idea how to apply to IIM Rohtak, Raipur and Trichy? and when would IIM I GDPI list be out??

By the way as far a IIM Ranchi is concern , you need not apply individually . The shortlist for IIM Ranchi is out in the official website Indian Institute of Management - IIM Ranchi
and the cutoff for general category is 99.66%ile. Our cutoff is highest among all IIMs but sectional is lower compared to other IIMs and yes IIM Ranchi doesn't have a high academic criteria as compared to others.

iim's are a partial lot of peole who dont want to work their buts to get to a normalisation procedure where people get due weightage of what they have studied and from which college and place. iim's are prooving themselves as a lousy bunch

Essays will be mostly from current affairs. Make sure you read editorials and form opinions on current happenings. Reading letters to the editor in newspapers might give some added perspective.

@Seniors: Looking at a lot of profiles here, I believe that I've barely scraped through stage 1. Stage 2 has only 35 points to offer, so slim chances of a convert. Based on your batch's experiences, can a really good interview + essay drastically improve the fortunes of a candidate?

To your initial score, two components would be added; first one is your essay score (15 points, 7.5 for content & 7.5 for style etc) and second one for your interview (20 points) !

no dude.. its only the OA that matter.. sectionals scores matter only for sectional cut-off.. atb for your next round!

How long is the GdPi going to stretch for IIM B! I know of people having dates in FEb. to ppl on this forum with dates in late march :O

The site has a bug. If you enter your SR as sr12345678, it will display that you have not been shortlisted irrespective of the fact whether you have been shortlisted for PI or not. You need to try with SR12345678 (SR should be in capital). Maybe you've also been hit by this issue. Please recheck.

Some quick points:

1) Refer to the admission process document. It clearly mention the exact selection process for the batch 2011-2013

2) Your essay writing and interviews will be very critical, especially for people who are lacking in one of the parameters (CAT, X, XII, Undergraduate etc..).. So for the time being, concentrate on your preparations for interviews.

3. Is distance education is considered?

4. If they wont give points because I didn't submit or it is a distance education, Will it be of any Good or advantage?
