We had a short 20 min test to begin with, a passage on globalization, liberalization, politics and its effect on us.. This was followed by a physical fitness test.... dont sweat... no n.d.a type drills just a few questions...

Sounds simple right...its mica ya... kahani main twist to aayega

Wont get into the details of the Ge, we ended up with a tower shorter in height than the original stack of cups...
I had a good idea but people were too concerned about the base being strong... (Manoof faale fab ke fab mera tower nahi khada hone diya ...lol...- inside joke)... at the end of the Ge one of the panelists said that my method would have worked much better so i was pretty happy.
Then came the long wait, which thanks to the amazing people I met was really fun... sourav , tarun , rahul/rohan ... sorry im really bad with names .. .. We guys were just cracking up on everything and I was showing them magic which they kept busting again n again (note to self - Ur not David Blaine, remember that ...lol)
Finally my pi, I had heard the lady on our panel was very stern and most of the people said she didnt even ask them anything... I go in and I have a really awesome interview... everyone was smiling most of the time , one of the questions i was asked was - ' ok ur creative but there are too many creative ppl in mica , we want some ordinary ppl , prove that ur ordinary ' ..... Im like ummm... i ... i..... I have decent marks nothing spectacular... i.................... Ummmmmmm ....................................im sorry I cant, im just not ordinary... n everyone starts laughing.... :D
Walking out of the room I couldnt help but think id made it
in the next few hours so many people who I had met for the first time were telling me u will get a spot for sure , tera to pakka hai ... you are from arts .......blah blah blah.....
I knew I shouldnt start flying , but I dont know why I couldnt resist , I guess I wanted mica so badly that I just wanted to believe what they were saying .. So I got carried away in the hype, bad idea...
it was 6.30 I was sitting at chota with a couple of friends , sharing a cigarette I borrowed from a senior ( its funny how I am still using borrowed , as though I have a chance to go back and return it :-() ...we get a call that the list is being declared and we all start running towards the Audi , I am carrying a bottle of aerated water ( I am not acting cool by calling coke aerated water , it was actually catch aerated water ..loll) neways we r running and in the excitement the bottle slips and the water starts fizzing out ... I tell rahul / rohan dude the champagne is already popping ...
my name doesnt show up on the merit list and u wont believe it I was happy, I was like wow I got a spot offer, the director says 2 spot offers only n the disillusioned idiot that I am, I still believe one of them is mine ....finally reality rears its ugly head - iv read this line so many times before, now I understand it...
Forget the champagne it felt like my heart was going to stop popping....
Mica still remains an elusive dream, which after yesterday I know I dont have the potential to turn into reality... actually potential would be a wrong to use, I havent lost faith in my self I still know I am very creative ... but I was on my A game yesterday, had a good ge an awesome interview, if I still cant get in, then I never will....
so ill try and make peace with that at some other institute which will but obviously feel like my SASURAL not my MAI-KA ..( thats similar to the last line on my sop, maybe that got me rejected , maybe i got to carried away in the creativity side , maybe this maybe that, i guess ill keep guessing )
The only advice that I can give u is
DONT COUNT YOUR CHICKENS BEFORE THEY HATCH U MIGHT END UP WITH EGG ALL OVER UR FACE (see I am creative ...lol...)

there are so many lines buzzing inside my head that i can write...like.....show must go on.....its not the end of the world......u must not lose faith or heart....
but truth is this......we can only console u for a while.....it's only YOU who can make things better for urself....
So if u feel like crying...just cry out...make urself at ease......then getup and think of best alternatives u have and work on them...surely u'll get success

so..here goes my complete experience...have sum patience 4 my free advice too...


1st the sop:

wrote only 1 training programme dat i have undertaken. It was dat i learnt to play a music instrument for an year.n da benefit is i learnt to help ppl..(dont b surprised.ul understand y)

one achievement...
made a shotrt film for a national level short film festival

wrote an sop

n likes and dislikes about da type of ppl i lyk n dislike


n now da gepi experience..

reached iim gate at 7:45,bus was ready,started at 8 n reachd mica at 8:30.

da whole crowd was divided into 2 groups..n v had to submit our sop and show our call letter(ur mail printout wud do) and identity

den at around 9:30 v wer given a form n asked to fill it up in 20 min..

it was a complex 6 lines essay on the world market behaviour, the globalisation,liberalisation, redtape in politics , etc

v wer asked to write the impact of this on us in 5 lines....wrote it..
turn da page n ur asked questions regarding ur fitness...
do u do exercise regularly?
how do u rate ur fitness level on a scale of 10?
how important do u think being fit is necessary(on a scale of 10)?



n den wer taken to the group exercise..
had 8 ppl in a group..wer given about 50 plastic glases, a 1 meter square white cloth,a plaster,pins,sketch pens n asked to make a tall tower with dem in 30 min..

made it..sumhow...mine dint go very well..a couple of ppl wer doing it..n v wer jus helping dem(as every1 cant construct da tower together..more hands,more mess...)

n had to wait for half n hour..

the intvws begun...4 panels...dey lasted from 11 to 4:30..

mine was in panel 4...(so called strict and serious panel of all)

an elderly gentleman, a lady and a cool guy with a french beard...

my interview..(1,2,3 are interviewers)

as i was entering da room..

2:so..we r now gonna talk with a film maker..

advice: dont prepare 2 much 4 u dono wat dey wud b askin u..b relaxed n ready to use ur presence of mind
( dey gave a brand n asked my frend to create a punch line )
dis can hapen..so b stress free..
u myt b asked nything under da sky,,,from sania mirza's issue to ur favouryt ad to create an ad of ur own in a minute

n figure out 1 thing...r u intstd in dis field or ur jus here seeing da tag of mica or for diz is da only cal u have.. for u wont enjoy diz field n cant succeed if ur not genuinely intstd....

dont try to bluff da panelist for dey can kno if ur honest or just trying to tell sumthin jus bcoz r in mica( even a layman can figure out if sum1z fakin...n dey r interviewers , cant dey??)

a suit or a tie is not necessary..just b decent in ur attire...for ul b boiled in a tie or a suit in dat heat...

u need not b a creative person to get into mica..as in a painter ,a dancer or an actor..
u need to b a manager..not an artist..so dont try to portray arts dat u wont possess..ofcorz der no harm telling dem if u r good at sumthing..

so dat is my exerience puys..hope it helps..n al da best for ur ge and pi//

ive just reached da hotel///wil post my experience in a couple of hours..had a long tiring day...

had my GE/PI today. got my name in the recommended list. final admission list and waiting list on 22nd. there were only 2 on the spot offers today and though i did not count but somebody was telling that there were 28 in the recommeded list. anyways m not sure wat i am feeling right now but had a great day. the campus, ppl i got to meet there, the interviewees, the GE conductors, the food-everything was so cool. it was very unlike any other MBA interview i have appeared for. had my interview in the last at about 4:30 pm. results got declared at around 6:45 PM.first we had to write our views on some issue regarding affect of globalisation or something etc. was late as had gone to the washroom but got extra time . i was in the same group as Kiran in the GT. Group task was to make a tall tower with the help of around 50 plastic galsses, clips, pins, cloth piece. had a great team and had a lot of fun. after that was a long wait for interview. but still since ppl were so cool so had a great time. Interview was being conducted in 4 panels. my panel was quite cool. They let me go in directions i wanted to. was mostly regarding my beliefs and perceptions on things since i was focussing on that. again was fun.
To all the guys I met there: Thnx everyone for the great time.

I just wanted to know that in the sop when we write about why we would like to choose MICA do we have to specific about the specialization. As I am just a fresher and I would like to study about all the specializations and then make an informed choice taking into consideration the one I find most suitable for myself.

Also ma'am, i was too distracted after the spot offer announcements were made. All i know is that we have to send in our our fees of 50000 by the the 16th of this month.
would u be kind enough to tell us about the same or will we be receiving a mail from MICA instructing us about what needs to be done.
this is what i would like to know.
- the fees need to be sent by cheque or DD
- what name do we write on the cheque/DD
- is it enough if we just write our names and our Mica id behind it so that you know who has sent it.
-would Mica be giving us any confirmation on receiving our cheque?

i have a few other questions as well about living in the campus like is there a bank close to the campus . where do we withdraw money from if we need to and where do we buy our daily necessities etc. but maybe you can answer these questions once you'll finalize the list of admitted students.

We get HDFC bank visiting campus once a week and SBI Mobile ATM around three times a week.

MICARE is a store run by students where you can buy all necessities.

From what I have heard, the GE-PI dates dont quite depend on where you live as people from my city have all got calls on different dates. So is it based on our MICAT performance?

If there were 18 spot offers on the 1st day, will there be enough seats left for spot offers to be given to call getters in the last couple of days? This is worrying me as I have my interview on the last day and I would like to know the probability of me making it to MICA!

This question has been raised a zillion number of times. It is always better to search for the answer before posting the query. For any questions or discussions about MICA use the following thread, and use this thread only for GE/PI experiences.:

I have been able to confine myself to the limits given in SOP form ....
were we supposed to answer question E(a) on separate sheet of paper?

Case : Was something about a farmer and irrigation problem...very easy had to suggest the farmer something....it was just for fifteen min and we were supposed to write just 5-6 lines sharp.

GE : Had to construct a layout of a living room of a house with all the materials available on the table . Had to put the media and communication gadgets and optimize it.(View : Concentrate on being a group and not an individual, take ideas share keep check on time....)

Another test asking us to honestly answer about our own fitness level.(God knows why was this test taken)

LM: Explained and impressed her..(Please know your state really well)
P2: Asked my favorite Ad or campaign and why
LM: blah....
P2: about my involvement in social causes ..had written in the form
LM: described everything honestly, with a note that my education followed by work and then i manage time for social work
P3 : pushes me in a corner saying you should join our entrepreneur course..
LM: Stood ....by my career goal...and course..why i applied to this specifically
P2: what other colleges you have applied for
LM: all marketing driven colleges like IMT-G and XIM-B

ALL in all they want to know you well so just open up and talk..but be clear why this and not that ...

yea... ;-)... i was expecting roughly around 75-80 people to turn up yesterday roughly dividing number of call getters over the number of days). yes so counting those who din turn up..around 40- 50 not recommended.... .

n i feel lets stop calling them rejects... plz its 2 harsh a word... lets call them not recommended students

Let me start with this... for those who still dun hv accomodation at ahmdabad, & pleasure club has already been booked for the days of ur stay, i found this really good place with a really good deal. my mum actually found this place through a colleague of hers.....its nt a luxurious hotel but a very comfortable place.. i paid rs 850 for an a/c room & two single beds per night. quite a good deal according to me..
i paid 120 bucks frm d airport to the hotel & 45 bucks frm the hotel to IIM-A gate.... the proprieter, a certain Francis D'Souza arranged for an auto to tk me der... very helpful guy...

now for the GE-PI process:
i reached IIM in the morning where a bus was waiting to take us to MICA.. mica was like a half an hour drive from there.. MIca is a beautiful campus i must say....Its HUUUUUGe....in every sense of the term (i actually got lost and had 2 ask for directions to find my way back).. and when they say red brick building they actually mean it.. its made up of red bricks....n theres greenery all around

neway we reached the campus and were them ushered into the audi ( the audi is very unique.. its got these huge flag like things on the wall.. n we had to sit on the floor on cushions... very unique)
we submitted our sops n then were divided into groups and taken into different rooms.
we were further dived into our ge groups..
my GE group had around 8-10 people.. this is where i met Deval Ma'am for the first time... n trust me shes very sweet.. only her hair is longer as compared to wats on the website photograph.. n she reminds me of a favourite teacher of mine in college.
neway leavin that aside we were given chart paper, felt tip pens, and a glue stick and were asked to draw a city layout to show where would strategically place our aids awareness campaigns.. i was lucky enough to get a group that worked together as a team...no dictator... had creative team n an art team... it was fun.. got very very involved.....n before we knew it it was over...we were given arnd half an hour for this.... n we were given funny apron like things to wear with numbers on them so that they could identify us better,,,
neway after this we were taken bk to the room. we were given a question and asked to provide solutions: something about how do u solve the water crisis of a certain farmer called jitubhai in gujarat-----15 mins for this
next we were given a mini questionnnaire aking us to rate ourselves on our physical fitness..i dunno wht they did with this-----5 mins for this

we were then allotted to our pi groups...they started & in the meantime people who had slots later in the day had lunch... im a diehard nonvegetarian.... but i have to admit i really relished the veg food here and ate enough....

Interview panel consisted of a man , lady 1 n lady 2... now i dun remember who asked me what... lets just pretend there was jus 1 interviewer

in short this is what they asked me.. m not posting my replies.. my fingers are paining typing so much
* ask us anything that u think would ensure a seat in mica ( i was stumped here....i din answer n ws jus lookin around thinkin of an answer)
* are u nervous(yes)
*y r u nervous( a lot is at stake dats y)
*whn do u stop gettin nervous(whn i get into the flow n im distracted)
* u have very nice handwriting... ( thnk u)
* are u creative( yes spoke bout my canvas shoe painting n my bags n my folders and how it all strtd frm those malhar days)
* why arnt u in NID ( cuz my creative streak strtd pretty late)
*gimme an instance whr u displayed your leadership skills)
* do u knw neone frm mica
*who have u met frm mica
* wht do u knw bout it..( spoke bout the clubs......told them i wanted 2 strt a cheerleading team... they looked at me as if i was talking greek .. m sure they did that to unnerve me)
* what specialisation? ( dunno yet but maybe market reasearch or account planning)
* whts account planning.( explained... but kept saying HE does this, HE does that..)
* so its a HE? ( that way i should be saying womankind or mankind)
*dun u think its unfair whn the ipl spends so much...n so many ppl in india are below the poverty line..( none of my business wht lalit modi does with his money...)
* its not his money entirely.bcci is backing it financially.. ( yes of course, bt then we'll hv to put restrictions on world cups n test matches and everything else... n its not like the ipl is not generating employment)
*wht would u do if u wr lalit modi would u give donate 25% of ur earnings( ive not been a hoarder all my life.. ill keep enough for my needs and i dun mind donating. neway driving forces in my life have always been recognition and appreciation)
* so we'll give u a job that doesnt pay ( no no ma'am nuthin like dt)
* enough is a very subjective term .. wht does enough mean( i have a lifestyle to take care of.. if i cn tk cr of dt thats enough for me)
* which means money is not a driving factor..( no.. ive always looked for recognition and appreciation)
* so if we stop recogniding and appreciating your work ull stop working( no ma'am my peers also can appreciate it)
* what if they do not.. there can be jealousy n competition ( ma/am in that case when u knw uve put in ur best and have done a good job what anyone else has to say wont matter)
* what if i give u lots of money wht will u do with it( ill open a bakery.. dt ws one of my likes...)
* so what a waste of the degree... ull earn this degree and work for a while and then earn to open a bakery later? ( no ma'am ill open the bakery.. side business.. will manage it .. wont be actually BAKING in it)

then walked the whole campus which is huge as i mentioned earlier..but very beautiful.... din like my interview... its not as rosy as ive described it.. they kept cuttin me out while i spoke..was very dissapointed... my interview ws so not form based.. din ask me why mica ? why shud v take u? ( a lot of them however got asked these ques.. i think they jus got bored and din want 2 knw anymore reasons). but a lot of ppl got questions based on their hometowns .. politics especially so prepare for that..

trousers n a shirt should work well for a girl
tie and shirt for a guy is a good bet..

at the end of the day. got a spot offer.....
frankly speaking i cudnt have prepared for this interview....but as chuck said its good to clarify ur thoughts on why mica n why should they take u in n all. imagine them poor people gettin the same stories n lines from everyone... so prepare that one well n say it convincingly.. nutin u cn do to prpare for GE... jus remember to b a team player....n pray... cuz it worked a miracle in my life today
