May be a little lenghty please bear :)

Reached ahemdabad on 12 and stayed near IIM campus.Reached MICA by
8.30.met great ppl akshay,Abhishek.tahir don remember anymore names very bad with names.

GE:

Task: build a model for a washroom brand and also devise the marketing and advertising statergy for the same

Everyone was very chilll in the team the majority were gals and it was real fun.We really didnt do anything for the first 10 min just very confused.then started workin. was real fun.joked around. didnt look at the examiner.Was in to making the model.Suddenly an idea flashed in my mind to have to WATER FOUNTAIN in the wash room.Everyone resisted at once but convinced them to place it atleast in the mens washroom.
We finished on time and named our brand " LUXURIOUS RELIEF" It was total fun and the team was very cooperative

At the end the examiner commented she liked two things
1.Brand name
2.The Fountain idea ( would you believe it ):biggrin:

My take on GE:

Actually had already screwed one in SIBM Pune where was conscious and not myself was acting very formal formal. so tips:
1.Be yourself
2.Enjoy the GE
3.Don look at the examiner
4.cooperate and try to convince ppl rather than fight

Case study:
bout some manager forced to fire 30000 employees due to recession and bad business.He had to tell this to board of directors what would you suggest?

Just told the firing is inevitable and employees can be referred honestly to other companies as the directors had the power :)

ME:answered from the heart the reasons were really silly but genuine

ME: told was intersted in marketing than sales
DM:tell me something bout your mom?
ME:(caught off guard) my mom is a very good mom i know everyones mom is good but my mom is really really good
Every one was smiling
OM:Favourite ad,worst ad
ME:said
YM: (gave me a paper)sign on it
ME: (puzzled) signed (actually i draw a smily below my sign he wanted to check that)
YM:why smily
ME:depends on my mood if its bad its a frowny,Also told don follow the same when signing bank papers

OM:you wrote it in your dislikes that you dont like someone pronouncing your name wrongly
Me:yes i dont and infact i corrected you at the beginining itself and couldnot do anything furthur as you are on the other side of the panel

Finally posting the awesome MICA experience.
Had my ge/pi on the 11th. I reached MICA campus early at 7:45 A.M. had a s/w at micafe to ease a bit of tension building up in my belly. At 8:30 we were taken for the registration and were divided into groups. at around 9 we were taken for our group exercise.
GE:

our group had 8 folks. we were given a topic on earth hour. had to make a model on a college day annual event which coincided with the earth hour. Had to identify key areas to be lit and use innovative ideas to light those areas. i was not happy with my ge performance :banghead:. our model and explanation both can be graded only satisfactory. after a goofed up ge, we went back for the case study.
Case Study:

We were all given a sheet consisting of a case study and some fitness qns. - all to be filled in 20 mins. the case dealt with Amitabh and Gujarat. Being AB's PR, I had to suggest AB his next move. I think I did justice to the case study and was happy with what I had written :). After the case study, the wait for the PI began in the awesome audi. Unlike other audis, this one was unique. It had cushions and curtains and an ambiance perfectly suitable to hold a kavi samellan. After a good time with fellow candidates in the audi, was called in for the i/v at 12:10. With a tense smile on my face I entered the room. :lookround:

me- sir, i was not done with my explanation and went ahead further. (again interrupted)
MT- you are getting a decent package already, you may not get this after you pass out of MICA
me- gave my explanation. and stated MICA last year salary stats.
(Meanwhile a man enters with some snacks)

me- (happy that all 3 interviewers are interested in the discussion) No sir, i don't mean that...discussion continues...

me- there are plenty sir, everyday something keeps happening in India. there is sona-shoaib issue, womens' bill issue and many others
MS- okay, which 2 issues you think are most important for India currently.
me- talked about right to free education and foreign univ. entering India.
LS- did you notice that you have had 2 of these biscuits?
MS- do you like eating? most of the candidates don't even take one but you have taken 2.
me- no sir, i felt very comfortable with you people and went overboard. Plus the dish is very good.
MT- it is non-veg

MS- or if you want to ask all questions, try to put them all in a single one and ask.
me- (thought for a while) i don't think it's possible to combine all questions in 1 as all are on different topics.
MS- then you will have to ask just 1 question.
me- asked the question and got the answer.
Shook hands with the panelists who had been so cool with me and left the room at 12:35
After I came out, thought to myself, 25 mins - not bad. Felt pretty good after the i/v. :)

Had to wait till 6:30 or so for the results. Meanwhile, roamed the entire campus - hostel which was full of graffiti (must say great creativity and artwork), chota canteen with the tyre waala jhoola and of course micanteen. Din realize the the time fly by.
Finally, when the results came - I was on Merit List :).
Frankly, with so many folks on merit list, don't know to be happy or to be sad.
Eeeeagerly waiting for 22nd, hope it brings only good news.:clap:

For those who were there on 14th can recollect me as the guy sitting on the top row in the audi...and making sure everyone was given a clap when leaving. And also the comments and the laughs that were filling up the tense aura (Sorry for tht)

Well.....for my experience ..
Arrived at IIM gate at 7:30...instantly formed a group of likeminded ppl of around 10 nd started the Bakar :)
when we arrived at MICA...were asked to sit in a room where the forms were taken...nd with harldy 10 mins of timepass the names were called out..And straight to GE.

Well the GE was a total fup the topic was to build a buisness plan for a company who is into carbon trading (Ya ya i knw "wht is tht" thts wht we all were wondering") and also create a educational campaign to promote it and ur company.
Have to say....it started egeriously with everyone at the top of the voice..somehow managed to get through nd complete (ya we thought tht we did) the GE.

Totally low from the GE and knowing tht somehow had already thrown in the towel...i decided to make the most of the day. Then rolled out the laughter session in the audi....Chota and back to audi.
Interview at around 2:30 (Ya no lunch)

Mathew sir : so why quit such a good paying job at such a good place;
Me: aah its a decent paying job sir...
mathew sir: haan ya i mean the same
me: Well i hate monday morning blues and i dont like the work there...challenges are something tht i dont enjoy there..blah blah.
Lady: (must have misheard) but u will hve to work long hours in marketing too;
Me : i would love tht (completing teh sentence with wht i actually told nd wht she misheard)
Me sir : i worked 16hrs a day when i had the small stunt at the markteing world, in the startup - it was awesome (my eyes glared nd everyone smiled)
Lady : why did u change schools aftr 10th even with good % ?
Me : told bout my low math score nd how i failed to get pcm nd had to switch....also related it to the dislikes of indian sport authorities of how my national level basketball medal failed me 1 mark concession.
Mathew sir : Why do u dislike lingustic chauvinism?
Me : blah blah maharatra (MNS-marathi) kerala (malyalam) and chennai (tamil)
some good funde about fundamental right, forced language ... it was more like i was taking a lecture and everyone nodding. this answer lasted no less thn 2min 30sec.
Mathew sir :(with a googly) so there should be one language for the nation ?
Me : (holding on the facts again) india diversified nd blah blah.
Old fella : (Finally breaking the silence) : so how many indian languages do u knw?
Me : (Smiling ear to ear) only HINDI sir
Old fella : No marathi ...
Me : Smiling
Lady : Do u knw bout ny institue in bhopal with the same course?
Me : nopes.
Mathew sir : tell me bout your fathers occupation?
ME : told nd added my mothers details too :P

Had GE-PI on 14th April.
Nothing much to state except the GE was most complex and litle confusing to many .
"To devlop a usiness plan for a carbon trading company " was totally misunderstood by participants.Compared to the GE of the past 6 Days
where creativity ,team spirit and leadership was assessed and observed ,this GE all the objective flouted since the Exercise it self was not understood well.
Wonder if any aprticipant given the above GE had a spot offer .
Lucky those who find themselves in the Merit List ..Primarily due to better PI

I was the tall guy in the black suit and with the ponytailed long hair, that should help you in recognising me.:biggrin:

PS: If you recall I congratulated you when you were entering the Audi when the results were already announced.

Ours was such a awesomely tough group of people who had come on Apr-11. I spoke with so many people and everybody meaning everybody had a minimum 2.5 years of workex. The lowest engineering batch passout was 2007 and nobody less then that. Many were from 2006 engineering batch (like me). Almost everybody was from IT except maybe one odd folk who was a tiger conservationist (Prateek) and with 6 years of workex in Kanha National Park, MP and his second attempt in MICA. There were 1-2 more people with 6-7 years of workex. Almost half the crowd was from Infosys!!!1 The whole crowd was beeming with workex people on sunday. I was expecting more spots and Merit Listers on Sunday though with so much tough competition.

PPS: I also got in the merit list , now an anxious wait till 22!!!!!:lookround:

Warning : Long Post

Finally I get to post my experience.

My GE PI was yesterday ... 11th April.

Took the bus from IIM A for MICA at 8 in the morning. Reached MICA around 8:30. Prateek (prat$02) was all the way with me.

After the registration process, waited in the CR2 room for some time. At 9:20 AM, the process started, we had to write a small paragraph posing as Amitabh Bachchan's PR and advise him about being part of a campaign to spread harmony in riot hit Gujarat and 3 questions about fitness. 20 mins were allotted for this.

After this, 7 of us, were taken for our GE. We were given a chart paper, lots of magazines, scissors and glue and our task was to design an ad campaign for a new instant noodle. The group, despite being a little disoriented in the beginning, did well. I contributed the tag line of the product . I think it helped me somehow. After that, small questions about the presentation. After the excercise, I took a photograph of the group (this skill of mine, helped me a lot)

After the GE, me and prateek went to chota and had numerous nimbu pani and fags. I was the 8th in my group so had a lot of time. Meanwhile the only thing I was doing was taking photos. The place is fabolous and has a lot of subjects to shoot.

My interview started at 2:30.

3 members in the panel,

Smiling guy (Q1), talked very less, but was smiling.
Skeptical guy (Q2) , was frowning for almost the whole length of the interview, did the most of questioning.
Beuatiful looking lady (Q3), was busy with her mobile for the first part, but did participate in the process later on.

Q3 called me in, after I walked in, usual plesantaries exchanged, sat down.

Q1) So, this is your first time in AHD?
Q1) How do you like the city?

Serious part starts----

Q2) So, tell me about your work?
Q2) Why do you want to join MICA? (Thanks to prateek for this answer)
Q2) You are earning 40K now, I dont think you will get a job that will pay u this much after u graduate. What then.
Q2) So, would you like to go back to your own industry after graduation.
Q2) Say, you get a job with CRY. They dont pay much, will you take it?
Q2) So, if this (marketiing strategy) is what you want to do, why dont you go to some other place.

Q2) So why not IIM Indore?

My interview almost got over at this point of time. suddenly Q3 took over.

-- Heard of her, never read anything

This is the second time my interview almost got over, here I chipped in myself, saying that I have got few photographs taken by me, would they be interested in seeing them. They said yes, I handed over the portfolio to Q3. after looking at a few of them, it seemed that they are interested.

Q2) Do you ask people before you take their photos? (I am a street photographer) -- My answer was no

Q2) Do you tell then after u r done? -- Yes

Q2) You have clicked photographs of women bathing at Ganges, (I told them that it was ganges) do you think this to be ethical?

-- Had a lovely answer for this. My answer was, I consider my photographs to be an extension of my memory and the lens to be that of my eye. I keep the pics to myself and do not distribute it. Under these circumstances, if taking pics is not ethical, then watching the same scene is not ethical either, cause when you see them, you keep the image stored in your mind.

Q2) If you dont mind, will u share ur CAT score? -- why not

Q3) What do u think about the current situation in bengal.

Q3) Do you think that the bengali mentality is responsible for bengal being under developed? -- Should not have given a stern answer to this.

Ok, we are done.

Overall, it lasted about 20-25 mins or a bit more than that.

My experience was quite good, got my chance of expressing what I wanted to, though I think I could have been a more descriptive in a few open ended questions.

After the interviews, had numerous cold coffees and fags at chota. The cold coffee at chota is highly recommended. Took numerous photographs. Will post them sometimes. Came back to pune today only and directly to office.

Result : Merit List

My take on the experience:
1) Take stands if you want to, back them up.
2) If you cant be honest all the time, be smart enough to link a question to previous ones.
3) Dont mug up fundas, common sense works much better.

i gess ppl in merit list have gotta good chance of making it...the reasons r :
1. Various other institutes r cuming up wit their results now and gdpi and results of various IIMs r pending.
2. Most ppl prefer other institutes which r almost on the same levels of mica(atleast in da 'rankings') over mica becoz mica is a more specialised course and a student looking for "just an mba" myt not prefer it as deir scope in future wud b les..
3. V generalise the concept that all doze offered spots or merits wud accept here in pg taking into consideration da interest v puys have in MICA...but the outside situation is different and diehard MBA aspirants are in pagalguy....so v see not many ppl who say dey r gona drop deir seat....
4. I think there wud b a 75% conversion chance for merit students..
5.Mica is a last chance or last call for most of da students.... i myt sound cynical here but i really wonder how many people who attended the interview r really keen in making their carrers in mass communications( ofcors derz market research,but the crux of mica is mass communications and media and brand management)...n i dont include puys in dis for most of dem,as we see everyday r really in love wit mica n interested in it...my take is about a normal mba aspirant ...
6.Also, sum freshers myt prefer joining a job for da comon buzz is dat derz not a lotta money in dis field,atleast in the early days.....cud b a factor for some...also a work-ex guy myt prefer to stick to his job instead of taking the risk of changing his field of work completely...dis factor myt influence sum ppl to drop out.....only a few may be...but it does work..( n here iam not talking abt ppl who r very very keen in dis field n diz insti)//
7. i gess der would b a lotta ppl droppin out as days pass by...

I admire your optimism man, the same ideas seem to be floating about in my head too - I guess we're all looking for a glimmer of hope from somewhere or the other.

n for doz who want mica juz coz dis id deir only call and no genuine intst in dis field, i think it's sumthin lyk "mica hogaya tho achha..nahi hua tho aur bhi achha...atlst dey can pursue deir interest, if not dis yr..kamsekam next year...."

Probably thats where the rumour stems from. It doesnt make any sense otherwise!!

but may be....if all dez spots and merits dont make upto 150, den dey must cum up wit a wait list..... possible,but highly improbable

i gess ppl in merit list have gotta good chance of making it...the reasons r :
1. Various other institutes r cuming up wit their results now and gdpi and results of various IIMs r pending.
2. Most ppl prefer other institutes which r almost on the same levels of mica(atleast in da 'rankings') over mica becoz mica is a more specialised course and a student looking for "just an mba" myt not prefer it as deir scope in future wud b les..
3. V generalise the concept that all doze offered spots or merits wud accept here in pg taking into consideration da interest v puys have in MICA...but the outside situation is different and diehard MBA aspirants are in pagalguy....so v see not many ppl who say dey r gona drop deir seat....
4. I think there wud b a 75% conversion chance for merit students..
5.Mica is a last chance or last call for most of da students.... i myt sound cynical here but i really wonder how many people who attended the interview r really keen in making their carrers in mass communications( ofcors derz market research,but the crux of mica is mass communications and media and brand management)...n i dont include puys in dis for most of dem,as we see everyday r really in love wit mica n interested in it...my take is about a normal mba aspirant ...
6.Also, sum freshers myt prefer joining a job for da comon buzz is dat derz not a lotta money in dis field,atleast in the early days.....cud b a factor for some...also a work-ex guy myt prefer to stick to his job instead of taking the risk of changing his field of work completely...dis factor myt influence sum ppl to drop out.....only a few may be...but it does work..( n here iam not talking abt ppl who r very very keen in dis field n diz insti)//

When you think of it as "Being in the top 90 in that 200", It sounds good. But when you think of it as "Being one of the last 110 in that 200", Its possible and scary! Such were the standards of the students who came to give the procedures at MICA. I'm sure the batch is going to be an awesome one!!
Hoping the truly best get the remaining seats!

I think they've shortlisted around 300 people for 150 seats. Out of which, 90-95 are spots, so that leaves around 200 people fighting for 60 seats. Ouch!

Total Merits : 200
Disclaimer : Spots may be accurate , but merit is definitely more I would say around 210-220

well it has been confirmed by Deval ma'am that this year seats have been increased to 150..

I'd confirmed this on 6th April. 150 seats in total... College is infact trying to increase it to 180, but no AICTE approval as of yet.
