I will Just like to Post my story so far, Here it goes.....

I am a fun loving banda who doesn't care much about life in general, but I do have a decent brain which helps me to perform well. On the day of my engg. entrance exam I had a fever of 102, but still I some how gave the paper but as I was not in a condition to perform at all, I didn't do very well. I took addmission in a private engg. in which ours was the second batch only.

All the people always took as a non-performing guy since I had to take admission in such a new college which not many had heard about, Than the story began luckily I found a few people seniors, batchmates and later on juniors who were committed and wanted to make a difference in our college, although we were not attached to the college from the heart but still we wanted our batch to perform, and thats what we did.

We took part in competitions and events presented papers and organised state as well as national level events, and lemme tell you it was all done by a group of 15-20 students with very less support from college, but still we excelled and then the placement season started for our batch....

We all performers were amongst the first few to be placed, and every one of our batch who was deserving got very good placements and landed up at a good place. The only thing in us was the passion to perform and prove that we are something, and that's what we did.......

A lot you might be thinking y I posted such a story here, I will tell you one thing now my current CTC is towards the higher band of salaries being offered to pupil at IMT-N currently but still I am desirous of taking admission here as I think the fact of matter is that if you are a performer no one can ever stop you from performing be it at anything............

Just keep this in mind and then you will see where you can take your ownself........

May be I bored you, you may Groan! at me but do remember if you know your worth no one in this world can stop you from realizing the same....

Well almost,but the sad part was mandatory disclosure,IMT-G displayed no. of people placed in each stream,IMT-N didnt even give the placements figures(in terms of number of people) for the last two years.
As one person said that finance faculty is not good,So i wanna ask is dat true,and how is the overall faculty,also can u provide the full picture about no. of people placed in different streams(If you have any idea).Also where are the other seniors?

I have converted PGDM-full time at IMT-N and wont be joining because I agree with many people around here regarding the very high tuition fee. Its simply not worth it.

@neo If you know all about the college then why bother asking or even considering taking admission.
And yes for me faculty,atmosphere,junior-senior relationship matters a lot, no doubt placement is of high importance but placement is what you get not from college but what you do in college,they will only assist in placements,and I like what animesh said

Let me clear up some of the questions on the streams:

At IMT N, you can specialize in: Finance, Marketing, Operations or IT. You can also do a dual specialization.

In your second year, you have to choose a minimum of 14 electives. 7 electives make a specialization. So for example, 7 marketing and 7 ops give you a dual specialization.

Alternatively, you could do 8+6, or 9+5 and so on, which would give you a major and a minor. As long as you have 7 in one area, the remaining 7 can be split any way you choose. Example: 7 finance, 4 Marketing and 3 Ops.

You can also do all 14 in one field.

As to what the college allots you:
If you have FT (full time) then you have complete freedom to choose your 14 in any field (as long as you have 7 in 1 field at least).

If you have for example FN, you HAVE to specialize in Finance. That means, a minimum of 7 subjects must be in Finance. The other 7 you can do in anything you like.

Confusing, I know. If you have any further issues with streams, lemme know and I'll try explaining it in light of your stream :)

Just a query

u have mentioned, we have to take minimum 14 electives , with 7 electives in stream A will give specialization is stream A.

so if we take 7 of A and 7 of B than we'll dual specialization in A & B.

Now, Can we have more than 14 electives???
i.e. If I take 8 of stream A, 7 of Stream B and 2 of Stream C. --> a total of 17 electives.

I know, this is somthing weird. people find hard to cope up with even 14 electives... but I just had a weird doubt...

i wrote 3 views cause the last 2 views r kind of similar so did not think of bifurcation. anyways more importantly i spoke to one of the students who passed out this year and she told me some of the following things:

1) the placement cell is horrible and apparently there is lot of politics going on in that college
2) college is not good for Finance, the prof for finance r not at all good...people apparently copy during exams in front of the prof
3) if ur solely looking for return on investment and a good package then this is not the college for u

Also @smisra u mentioned about friendly ambiance,facilities,helpful seniors...common man if u ask most of the students or aspirants they r really not bothered abt all this, its important yes but not as important as the package...the one thing they r most bothered is placements
and a good job...money always rules the roost.
and tax exemptions!!! u get tax exemptions on loads of things but u gotta look at the big picture as to how much u will end up paying with the interest and all..that seems like a raw deal

Yes hostel and mess bill are included in the fees. If you plan to buy a house in Nagpur, it will cost you extra, but you can't live off campus anyways, so I dont know why the hell you would want to do that. I mention this 'cause that's what I assume relocate means.

And the seniors are very helpful. Not to mention incredibly handsome in a rugged, offbeat kind of way oO.

Well I must say,it all depends on your available choices and what you want to do in life.
1. Fees do matter, but as long as we get good faculty,friendly ambiance , facilities,helpful seniors, these factors can overshadow the fees factor(to some extent)
2. Average package may vary in coming years,and while you are taking loan you can get some tax exemption(strongly my view,may vary person to person)
3. You said there are two reasons,but you added the third one, anyways fees includes hostel and boarding(If i am nt wrong) so I think only travelling expenses you have to bear.
These are my views(people may agree or disagree)

i have been selected for IMT Nagpur Pgdm course. although most probably i wont be taking admission. There r 2 reasons why i am not doing this:

1) THE 10.5 L fees. This is unbelievable, how can they charge such a huge amount. I mean agreed IMT is a brand name but nagpur??!!! seriously

2) The average package is only 5 L, so if ur taking an education loan (like me) it would atleast take u 3-4 years just to repay the loan...Return on Investment anybody???

3) also you will be relocating to nagpur to assume another 1.5 to 2 L expenses over and above the fees.

We were told that the fees for this years batch would be 10.5 and odd quite some time back. I don't think there is any question that this is the actual figure anymore, the brochure notwithstanding.

For all administrative queries, contact the IMT N office, the number is on the website at imtnagpur.ac.in and they are actually quite helpful.

Despite a lot of people still talking 'bout all the negativity we had some time back on this thread I'm quite pleased that a lot of people are seriously considering joining. This last placements did have some issues, and yes, at the very end, the college did send a contingent of the unplaced to Ghaziabad. While this does smack of desperation, I would point out that it also illustrates the dedication of the placement cell.

This year we have been promised that things will be different. I understand that it is quite a leap of faith that anyone joining the college must take. But you must remember that the numbers are quite large. What that means is if we place even 50% of our batch, we have already outperformed a lot of big name colleges who advertize 100% placements. And if you were to consider the top 50% of our placements alone, I'm sure that you would not hesitate in joining.

Sometime back a batchmate of mine made this same point on this thread, and drew a lot of flak. But he's got it 'bout right I think.

I realize that I've been doing some extreme PR work for the college (unpaid work I might add :|), but I honestly do believe that this college can be something really special in the next few years. I wouldn't want you to kick yourselves in a few years time 'cause you passed this opportunity up

1) during placement, do companies look fr 10th class percentage as i m having low % in my 10th class as 58...and whats d general criteria in d selection week..

2) i have got pgdm (finance)...hw is dis different frm pgdm (FT) ...do i have 2 study finance fr 2 yrs..or can i opt fr dual specilization like finance + marketing...and can i change my stream to PGDM (FT)..

Well their brochure was printed quite long back,so may be they changed their fee structure(dnt know the reason though)
Private colleges charge whatever they want,and after charging 10.55 they have written below

I found some data in their mandatory disclosure which I want to share about placements.
In year 2007-09 they claim to have placed 277/277, and den next year 2008-10 placement process on and 2009-11 N.A.

i've been shortlisted for IMT-N PGDM full time.
will take decision in 3-4 days.

A lot of us are confused about wether to join or not... well for me, if i`m asked why i`m joining the institute fr PGDM full time which ws my last option, i`l say, wen i ws confused of the same thing, i asked my heart to answer, which i usually do, wen it didn`t answer anything, i tossed a coin in air and gave both sides diff solutions, now once the coin went up in the air, my heart told me exactly which path to follow.:drinking:.
it`s never known what it is to happen in future anyways, so why waste tym thinking/planning about it. I take action in my present and make my future good. If it were possible to plan our future, our lives would`ve been like a fixed boring time table. GOSHH wat a hell it wud`ve been. Ask ur heart and follow ur instincts. it`s you who make ur destiny in future with the actions performed in present. Besta luck brethen.

The movement of IMT N waiting list is quite transparent. IMT G ppl who dont get Ghaziabad campus are also adjusted to Nagpur. Thats why they have not revealed the WL no. It will be done afte 7 i guess. Moreover since last year the WL movement was huge so u have fair chance of converting it finally.

Hi, am not a senior but just a fellow puy like you. I have been following thread regularly as one my friends had gone through IMT-N's process and now she has a admit.

Morphing my advice, what I gave to her, in your context. Ill give you two suggestions.

A. if you don't want to give CAT anymore because you think, by the time next year you get into a 2yr program, it would be too late to go for a two year course. I suggest you give CAT/GMAT once more try for Great lakes or better still ISB - all one year courses.

IF you dont want to go for A then,

B. You join IMT-N. Now the average at IMT-N is around 5 and i suppose after 2 years of exp you might be earning around 4-4.5 now. Two years down the line (suppose you dont do an MBA) i guess you woud be in the 5-5.5 bracket. So in terms of a bounce in earning after two years. we are not looking into much.

But- After two years @ IMT- N you would be having a job of around-5 (judging by your profile and even if u have an iota of dedication you would manage that) AND an MBA. So there is the bonus for you.

My 2 cents:
1. any college is only as good as the students. So, believe me, if you back yourself for great things, you can achieve them in any college.
2. Work hard at IMT-N for two years.
3. try to go for the student exchange thing they have.
4 try to be in the top 20% of the batch.

if you do these things you will be fine. SO if you back yourself for these things and the 10lc initial investment is not a BIG issue. Go for IMT N.

HR sector has been hit badly by recession. Not only in IMT N but all b school candidates with HR profile have faced lots of issues in getting placed.

The scenes wud definately be better after a year and two. I would suggest you to take a call thinking all pros and cons. If this profile suits u the best then go for it. Other option might be to have a Dual Spl with something mre productive. For Example HR with Finance. you can always ask for change of your spl after a year. If u have good CGPA they can consider your point.

Well am neither a senior nor a stud of imt nagpur yet... but seein ur profile, u had ur education in elec N comm, worked in telecom line which so far seems justifyable... but if u can justify ursel and others on how easy wil it be to switch to finance line...tht really matters... a guy with finance backgrnd say a B.com guy with work ex can have an edge over u unless u grab the concepts really clearly and fastly... so it all depende on how much of value the course adds to ur profile and how well u can justify them... and yea... finance in any decent institute is a good bet given the salary pkgs the recruiters offer...

Asian Paints had quoted a salary of 7.5 L in the begining during the placements. But later on when the process was over they increased it to 8.3L per annum.
