A final advice - go through some of the posts above again and try to comprehend what they are trying to convey. I feel that you seriously need to work on your RC's if you plan to appear for CAT or any other exam next year. period.

But I tend to agree that the days when a B school name tag was enough to get a plush job are now gone! We now have to actually work hard to earn our keep..

I have some doubts regarding the preference which we had given during form filling. I had given my 1st preference as Marketing and 2nd as Finance. Is there any possibility of me getting Finance, provided if I am selected.

IIM A had made at least 40 students opt out unconditionally from the placement process this year so as to achieve 100% placement after 5 days. Now does this piece of info slander 'Brand Value' of the best Indian B School too? (Don't worry about the credibility of this piece of information as it comes from an IIM A insider who faced the placement process this year). In some other IIMs candidates have been offered pay packages around 4-4.5 lakh rupees pa.

As far as the seniors of institutes are concerned, even I'm aware that they cook up tales sometimes BUT aren't these seniors the ones who help prospective candidates throughout the admission process despite having grueling schedules of their own?

Finally - No one has been speculating that your information is incorrect. It's just that me along with several others feel that if you got quality inside - you'll definitely have moolah outside! Recession just makes companies choose the best of the best.

What info you have given about IIM-A is absolutely correct. They force some students (opt)out of placement to achieve 100% placment every year. This year no of students opting(forced) out of placements are on rise due to recession. Again you are correct about the figure you have given.

I never meant that seniors do not help us. I just meant that we should not make decisions on th basis of what they have mentioned in online forums. You should verify it from known souces. You can see that seniors who are helping us are from some committees like admission committee and media relations committee whose job is to do such things. So obviously they will talk positive about their college.

Try it out "You go to thread of some "UNKNOWN and ABSTRACT INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT" and ask seniors there. They will give you info like their institute is best in the world.

No offence meant. I just wan to say that you sgould verify info for youe own benefit.

As far as profile(of student getting 1.8 lac) is concerend I am not saying that everyone will get 1.8 lac. Obviously it depends on your potential too. Here I meant that only because of IMT you cant be sure that you will get a decent salary....

As far as my RC is concerend you should not worry about that. Vaise thanx for your advice.

two things to be noted here-one isb's placements have been pathetic this year....the 2009 batch classes have ended and placement percentage is definitely less than 70% of the batch...i believe 50% is more accurate..so peceptions regarding isb have drastically altered..but that's another story....let's stick to imt...:)

Hey Puys , Hi to everyone , Congrats to all the people who converted various calls . . . , My wait is only for IMT-G and IMT-N , inspite of me doing the Gd's and Pi's well I have rejects all over the place man and especially fore man , I owned the Gd and Pi and I am not even in the waiting list , got rejects from everyother place I've applied , Jus wanted to share it will all the Puys , couldnt take the frustration alone !! ;)

Think about this for a moment - ISB Hyderabad has been constantly increasing their seats ever since its inception and, they say that they ll continue doing so till they achieve their maximum capacity of 550 students.

Now why doesn't any one doubt ISB placements despite the increasing seats? It's because we all know how selective ISB is when comes to selecting students for its programme. We all know that even if the batch strength is 500 - we are gonna find quality.

The only inference which can be drawn from the above argument is that it's not the quantity of students which ascertain the quality of placements. It's definitely the quality of students which ensures quality placements in any B School. Quality never goes out of fashion and it never goes unnoticed too. So, if as a student you are confident of yourself and the skills which you possess I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be getting a dream placement. All the best.

Agree and I feel its not much about the salary (although I started preparing with the other notion). The fees will rocket sky high YOY, package is variable, depending on markets. Next is, how much do you anticipate to grow in next 2 years without an MBA.

It all boils down to whether you want an MBA or not (of course reputed inst. - whatever our definition might be)

Well, been through a few pages and saw people speculating about salaries now!

OK...if true, packages of 1.98 or even 4.xx ARE disturbing for an aspirant to say the least. But such packages would be on the lower side anyways. Plus, it depends on the quality of the student too. There ought to be a few students who are below-average types in a batch of 400 odd. Same in the case of every college...even IIMs, there are always some students who underperform and wont be able to manage a decent package.

For the record, one of my friends is of 2007-09 batch in IMT-G, is a fresher and has got a package of 9 lakhs. All in all, quality doesn't go unnoticed; its all in your abilities to perform and get a package and profile that you deserve. If you are below-average, you will still get what you deserve

Still, I agree with you about not worrying about the figures. We've heard of people getting 9-10L packages and the 2-4L packages this year (2 lacs!!! Seriously??!!)...
So we can see that the college is capable to granting us the chance to make a decent package. Whether we are able to make use of it with our performance in the 2 yrs is up to us. Besides, placements is not(rather, should not be ;)) the ONLY reason why one would wanna go for an MBA course.

i have no idea abt the actual salary fig..and am not saying whether imt is gud or bad..just wanted to point out a flaw in ur logic..u say that placing 400 ppl is an achievement in itself..let me ask suppose u get this offer of 2 lakhs..will u go to the director of this college and say-"sir,i know its trouble placing 400 ppl..i can understand ur posn..i will adjust with this package"....am not this saying this to mock u or anythin..just wanted to point out this lil flaw in ur logic..:D

Guys lets not jump the gun and take decisions based on placements just this year where all top B-schools have struggled. As a matter of fact, I know that a fresher at IMT G got placed with a 9L package this year. Besides placement is important yes, but definetely not EVERYTHING.

the placement scene at IMT-G has not been good.. this frnd of mine got placed in TCS at 4.8 lpa.. i mean he got placed in TCS at 3 lpa jus after his engineering!!! lets hope things are better when we pass out!!!

I think last year one did not have to pay the fees to be considered for waitlist movement. However, if you dont get your first pref course and want to be considered for further movements so as to get a course of better preference, you had to pay the fees and give a written application stating the same.
