in recent years, it has been seen that the waitlist for iim c does not move at all, because the guesstimates are extremely accurate. last year, no waitlist was given. however, around 10 ppl were offered admission just after classes had commenced and they left the institutes they had joined, and joined here.

IIMC did have a waitlist last year and my friend was on it who later cleared. This last years link says tat everyone on the WL was cleared.

number of confirmations normally also includes the buffers. so if there are 407 seats, there would be far more than 407 confirmations.

I believe last year around 20-25 people cleared the waitlist and around 30-35 were waitlisted. This is what i got to learn after going through the last years waitlisters thread for IIM C. I sincerely hope for some official explaination regarding the ON HOLD status.

But I'd greatly appreciate it if any of the seniors/mentors would explain this anomaly to me!

ppl are given final calls based on guesstimates. for example, for 240 seats, lets say 300 final calls are given. of these, if say 250 ppl join then all are given admission and are accommodated. if 230 ppl join then the first 10 ppl in the waitlist are offered admission. this is done to minimize movement of waitlists.

From what I know last time the waitlist got cleared till 20-25. It depends on the no. of overlaps. I guess atleast 20 should clear any way.

And I do not find any wisdom in giving people both PGDM and PGDCM calls even after asking for the order of preference in the interview form.

Its actually a very good thing that students get the option to choose between the two till the very end. I for one had filled dcm as my first preference in the interview form, but finally chose dm over it. This doesn't harm the wait-listed students in any way whatsoever. The preference in the interview form is used to guesstimate the number of students opting for either.

So the status will remain "On Hold" till the 1st of May ? Is there any chance of a detailed official explanation coming up soon .about what this means and when the status change might happen?

Nothing to be sorry about...I also would have done the same. It is only after 2 years of wisdom (in my case @ IIM-C) that you start thinking logically. At least try to.

As a well-wisher I suggest you take up the admission if you really can't wait. IIM-C offer stays and it's going no where. The moment you get a call nobody can stop you from joining us. Rather we would be delighted. In my case I revoked my admission from XLRI to accept IIM-B and then finally revoked even that to join IIM-C. Atleast your journey is far shorter.

Also this list is FINAL. Admin has confirmed and THERE SHALL BE NO MORE CHANGES. So those who are confirmed can certainly look forward to join us should they choose to. We hope to see all of you on campus.

That doesn't make much sense though, does it?! What is the necessity to do all this on hold and buffer? If the number of offers made was 408 as reported here, which is the number of seats! Reducing people from that list and putting them on hold effectively means there will be vacant seats filled by on hold people!
Or is the report of 408 offers incorrect?

Till last year we were trying to attract guys, but this year onwards we have made a concious decision just to let the facts be known to you and let the individuals decide for themselves. Well i was never maligning the institute. It was always my dream institute and still is.Dunno how i wud've felt had i been on the other side of the fence though . I'm sorry if i used strong language and used it in a fit of absence of mind. No offence meant.

But it seems that the "On Hold" list is short. So we hope to have all the "On Hold" candidates confirmed shortly after the initial acceptances are sent by the already Confirmed candidates.

On a personal note, this may take time as the Confirmed candidates will take time to confirm. But now I guess their acceptance date shall be substantially pre-poned. In the process if someone takes up admission elsewhere, do not worry barring a thousand rupess you shall get back all your money from the institute you join. I've tried callin up IIMC office but they're not pickin up the phone. This kind of goof up has left a very bad taste in the mouth. Till yesterday we were on top of the world dreaming of the picturesque joka campus. Now nothing is certain till we actually reach joka and attend the induction classes. I'm have no choice but people in double minds regarding B or C will have it easy now

To all those who had sent regret letters to other colleges and are put on hold by IIM-C...

I suggest that if you can wait sending the regret letters then please do so. Also if you can wait sending acceptance letter then please do so as well. First clarify you status from IIM-C. In any case even if you take admission in a college then as per the latest MHRD rules all your fees baring a few thousand (1000-2000) everything should be returned to you. But if you can wait and defer the hassle then why not.

But wait only if you are sure that the delay won't cause you any harm. Hope for the best.

Similar thing happened in 2 of our sister institutes some years earlier (won't name them for obvious reasons). Few students had dragged them to court. In one case the institute won and in the other the students won. In the latter case the institute had to admit the students. We all kept it under wraps to save it the shame.

Let's start learning to analyze things than get emotional. I know it is easier said than done but atleast try. But in this case we all hope to see nothing but smiles in your faces. So ATB!!

I appreciate you staying with us through all this drama which is not a drama anymore.Its nothing but a botheration which u've taken up and thanx for tat. However i'll like to ask a few questions.

There can only be two conceivable reasons for this( according to me)

1. They didn't realise that the OBC quota must end at -10% of the general cutoff and hence making up for it. However we're seeing general category candidates being put on hold. So we can reject this one outright.

2. If there's a problem with the candidate not clearing some specific criteria in cat score,interview etc this is NOT the time to clear it up. Anyhow our "sister institutes" make numerous compromises while selecting people.Few have any specific cat cutoff and others make arbitrary cut-offs based on 10th, 12th marks disregarding the background. One can make one's peace with such arbit stuff when you don't get a call or even when you get rejected in the interview. Its very difficult to make peace now. None of us here in the final list can say that we're better than the ones in the shortlist who couldn't make it. Its all very subjective. So in case u've to compromise on the criteria to accomodate few people, it should not be an issue at all. Gettin rejected is bad enough. Being selected and then being rejected is a double whammy.

Called up the admissions office....its pointless...the list is final - confirmed.

They have not decided about the 'On Hold' candidates....the lady said Nobody has a clue about the goings on....Monday that verdict would be out....

Currently you have been put on hold. You will be intimated in due course in case there is any change in your status.

i called up Admissions and dey replied that On-Hold cannot be further elaborated due to confidential issues which they are unwilling to reveal right now...
An executive council meeting is underway and dey are tryin to clear the On-Hold Status ASAP...i myself am ON-HOLD...so lets jus hope for the best and stay calm...

I too have been put on the HOLD status. I am devastated, never ever in my wildest of nightmares did i expected such a turnaround.

Also who knows if they had persisted with the incorrect results for the fear of being ashamed then few more deserving candidates might have not got the opportunity they deserved. Yes it might hurt a few but then isn't it morally more correct to rectify the errors before it is too late. Error has been committed but right thing to do is to accept it, rectify it and do justice to the maximum extent possible that too ASAP. And who knows some of you might apply RTI later to find out whether IIM-C has done the right thing or not. IIM-C has to answer then and hence why not make sure it has the correct answers.

I called the BoardLine number and asked them if she can transfer to admissions department... She said office is closed and I asked for direct line number.. She said no one is taking calls now and call on monday, thank you...

I personally thought this is a reshuffling issue going on..but IIMC must explain what is happening.
