Calling all Hydies to help Tsunami victims - 29-12-2004, 10:50 PM

I just saw that the offical figure of the no of victims has crossed 68,000!

Maybe we can do a lil bit to help those ppl. Plz pour in with ur suggestions. As Simba suggested in this thread we can collect old clothes/blankets/rations/or anything for that matter.

A frend of mine is working with an NGO and is leaving tom for chennai to help with the things there. Whatever little I've been able to collect, I will pass it on to him tom morn.

So, at this moment I dont know how we r gng to pass on the stuff that we guys collect, but I just know that we have to do something abt.

I will come up with the details of the orgs by tom eve, or if you guys know of some agency here in hyd, plz do post here.

For that matter, plz post abt any idea that comes to u, any which way we can help them.

Lets do what we can... Please....

Uday

Mebbe we can actually collect useful stuff.....I shall try to find out if there's any method of getting it across to nagapattinam or chennai.....coz, if nothing else, mebbe my dad's office can send 'em across with whatever they must be sending.....or mebbe even we could courier them off there directly to a responsible person .....

I think this time we will make an exception and start collecting money too. We will be using to this money to buy some of the things that NGOs working there are asking for.

Things that AID India has asked for:

i) Cooking Provisions - Rice/Dal/Oil/Sugar/Milk powder - packed in packets if possible.
ii) Soaps/Detergents/Paste and other items, for cuddalore/nagai etc.
iii) Kodams, vessels and other utensils
iv) There's a huge need for Blankets and Mats
v) Medicines - Doxycycline, Cough syrups, ORS packets, Septron tablets/syrups, Anti-histamines etc.

Nobody interested in Hyd to help out those unfortunate folks?????

AID India's webpage that lists where all the donations can be made in Hyd/Chennai/B'lore:

Yea, rather than clothes, these utensils et al would prolly be helping them the most...But how do we get it across??? if it is money, then yea, I can arrange it to be directly delivered to the local administration (as in collector),,,,but getting all these stuff packed into packets and then transporting them..... i have my own doubts on how feasible, this practically is......but yea, like uday mentioned, mebbe, for this time, we can start raising funds from our family and friends and contribute it all together.....

Any of the chennai/trichy folks actually thinking of going out there to cuddalore/nagai to volunteer ??? me and a couple of my friends are seriously contemplating to.....remains to be seen if we can actually make it there..

i just contacted the unicef and the red cross, whereby they suggested the name of reddys foundation.i rang them up(23414603,23403618,23404613) they have an office near NIMS and geetanjali degree college in panjagutta.they said that they will be accepting anything from money and clothes to medicines, food packets, utensils, etc.(anything that can really help).
so guess finding a means of sending the donations is not a problem now.
any other info required u can just ring them up.

bye..
