1) All of us are educated.
2) Teaching would not be too difficult.
3) Focus - If all of us pick up a common cause, we can make a difference sooner than later.
4) We all can go back @ night to a Barista and talk about our own educational situation

At first, I did think it would be right to allow each city to do its own thing. But the varied responses here have got me thinking again. The options are too varied and we may end up stretching ourselves too thin. We also need to be a part of a common identity. We don't have much leverage, but when do get a chance to do something big , we all should be aligned as to what we stand for.

If serving the community is the primary objective, we do have a secondary objective! That would be to ensure more and more people join us in this work we do. Stretching too thin and not having a common identity is a sure shot recipe of not being sure who is heading where. We all won't be here forever. Some of you will be off to a trip abroad, some will goto bschools et all .. What we all need to do is build a legacy. Something which we can be proud of and something we can come back to at a later point of time. A common identity would allow the group to survive even if the main people did leave due to any circumstance.

>4. broadly speaking volunteer activities typically fall under one of the following >categories :

a) city programs ( make hyd clean types )
b) literacy
c) tutoring and mentoring
d) blood banks/ hospitals
e) environment
f) senior citizens
g) children
h) food/shelter

Of the above, b and c are of interest and are something which I feel can be sustained over the years. Sure, food - shelter - we can go into them once a while if and when the proper cause arises. Even blood banks , if a group member collates proper information, we guys may actually donate blood once a month. Rather than calling it community service, I would prefer it fall under a regular occurance. Just 30 mins of your time.

What say Junta ?
to make this effort sustainable we need to pan something on a more regular and continuous basis and not something we do once in a while and forget abt.....

Also there is an organization called Pratham which is spread nationwide...i have mailed the B'lore head...so as soon as i get a reply i will post on the thread.....
and since we r meeting on Saturday... till this thing with pratham gets sorted out we can go ahead with the orphanage plan also....

So mail/PM me ur yahoo ids...

cheers
Shradha

Good going Shraddha ! We sure will
I have mailed two more people from the original Payback thread who said they want to join us.I guess being newbies they are not too familiar with this thread.Am keeping those newbies informed about the activity on this thread.
So we really should be meeting this weekend.Follow the PoA with PG.I work in a call center and my shift begins at 7 pm.So I wont be able to join you guys on weekdays for the Y! conference. :( However I will keep an eye on this thread and I have already posted 4 pm on Saturday as the meeting date.
Venue:How about Cubbon Park?
