Exclamation Trishna's Quantitative Ability - 18-03-2005, 05:31 PM

I am a student of TIME. They have this book on Quantitative Ability which is supposed to be a comprehensive outline of the whole quantitative section for the CAT. Is it worth using this book? I am pretty poor in mathematics btw.

Trishna's Quant Book - 21-03-2005, 05:26 PM

Well I had bought this book last year when its first edition was released so my opinion is based on the fact that no new revised edition has been released.

Firstly all those who are TIME students I would suggest not to buy the book

Reason1. the type of problems given in TIME material is much better compared to the book - the book is meant to address all entrance exams which have quant as part of testing so its not a CAT specific book, each topic has problems divided into three exercise levels Exercise 1 and 2 are a waste-very easy problems and Exercise 3 have less problems and only some are of the CAT level types. There are practice papers given at the end of the book and only these deserve a mention cos some of the problems are really good.

Reason2. For a newbie this may not address all his needs viz. explaining the basics sufficiently- topics just have formulaes mentioned prior to exercises and examples taken are few which in turn dont cover all types of problems

Reason3. For a pro it has no challenging stuff Something that calls for mind storming if u can jus xerox the practice tests given at the end of the book that would be enough

I agree with Swati regarding Abhijit Guha or Sharma (if i have got the name right) these are very well laid out and have enough info for someone touching quant now. and above all PG's Quant Section has really a mine of info.

Cheers and good luck studying

Govi

hello ppl.,
kindly suggest what to buy at this point (or should one not buy any now):-arun sharma or trishna 4 quant?i have been adviced trishna by TIME faculty but i am little sceptic since its obvious for them to recommend just that.

looking forward to suggestions.

cheers.

hi vijaykri this is vijay here>>>>>

That book is very good for quant provided you have gone through the material provided to you by TIME ppl>>> My request for you is to go through the entire material they have given to you first (Atleast Quant) and then if you think there is enough time and enough patience left with you (or if you are a quant freak ... Thirsty for solving puzzles) you can go through that book>>>

Any way i wish you all the Best for your Exam

Regards
