Let the speed of Ram be R and Shyam be s in m/sec. Then we can write
(2000/R) = (1800/s) --30 ---(1) and
(1000/R) = (2000 --180s/s) --(2) By simultaneous solving of 1 and 2 we get R = 2000/240 and S=20/3 = 2000/300. Hence Ram will complete 2000m in 240 sec or 4 min and Shyam in 300 sec or 5 min. Hence the answer.

Well Subha I guess there are other ways to go about it , but I reduced the equations to make a different equation involving the Painter and the Plumber.

Start with the Plumber+ Electrician, equate with Electrician+Constructor by removing the common term (that being the electrician)
Keep going down that sequence removing the common terms until you land up with an equation having Painter - Plumber = 100

Equate it with the existing one and voila you have your answer, if i haven't thoroughly confused you.

Oh! Sorry, that was my mistake. Thanks for pointing that out.
