Re: official quant thread for CAT 2009 -
20-11-2008, 12:18 AM
let me start off with the first question..
let f(x) = ax^2 + bx + c where a,b,c are certain constants and a is not equal to 0.. f(5) = -3f(2) and 3 is root of f(x) = 0
what is the other root of f(x) = 0 ?
a)-7
b)-4
c)2
d)6
e)cannot be determined
what is value of a+b+c?
a)9
b)14
c)13
d)37
e)cannot be determined
happy solving:rockedov:
this is cat 2008 question and so elegant solution with less time is required...
ps: i took around 10 min to solve this problem in CAT :sad:

f(5)=25a+5b+c
so,
25a+5b+c=-12a-6b-3c
37a+11b+4c=0
Also,f(3)=0
9a+3b+c=0
a-b=0 or a=b
c=-12a
ax^2+bx+c=0
ax^2+ax-12a=0
So,x=-4 or x=3
So,option(b)
===========================
For the second part,the answer cannot be determined,i feel.
this would have been one of the first few attempts in cat,if i had given it,that is ;-)

Hi naga,
I really appreaciate your initiative for this new thread but I think its too early to start if not wait for all admission and GD/PI atleast wait for the written exams to be over atleast till mid jan.

I completely agree.its not even 2009 the guys will begin posting once the exam season gets over.Till then,it would not get the required response from the quant champs.also,we might get some unwanted spam from newbies who are abundantly present at the moment.
All the best.

Thanks to rmbt for reopening this thread.
I think we should go by either of the two ways:-
1) Putting up our queries here and helping out each other with various types of questions.
2) Taking one area at a time and moving to the next only when the current one is over and has covered all(almost) types of questions under it.
What say puys?

Re: official quant thread for CAT 2009 -

Good Luck to CAT 2009 aspirants, quant and DI threads at PG helped me a lot.
and you can see my scores..
If anyone needs help, I am just a ping away...
For Quant, i would suggest going through my blog, and my quant sets,
old qqad problems and practice tests.
For DI - OLD mock papers and cat papers, as many as you can get hold of.
Best Regards
Implex
