Hi everybody,


A train 360m in lengt,travelling at a uniform speed overtok a car,travelling parallel to the tracks at 72kmph and passed it in 12 sec.48 min later,the train starts overtaking a cyclist and passed him in 9 sec.How much time aftert the train overtook the cyclist would the car overtake him???



ans is 2hr 24 min,27 sec..
Plz plz help me out..

Total dist A travelled is 180 kms. and B is 40 kms. A travells another 30 kms in that half an hour to reach p. as A reachs P at 11:30 travelling 210 kms b starts with a dist bw A and B of 15 kms. in 8 mins B travels 40 * 8/60 = 5.33 kms...thts when A starts...total remaining dist bw thm is 9.66 kms. which takes 9.66/100 * 60 = 5.8 mins...hence at 11:30 + 8 + 5.8 = 11:44:48

I hope my approach is rt..i m getting 11:44:48 am

Firstly, the train overtake the car in 12 sec.
So relative speed of train to car is 360/12 = 30m/s
And the train overtook the cyclist in 9 sec.
Se relative speed of train to cyclist is 360/9 = 40m/s

Now speed of car is 72 kmph = 72*[5/18] = 20m/s
so, trains speed is 50m/s
and cyclists speed is 10m/s

now the gap generated bet. the train and car in 48 min. is 48*30 = 1440 mtrs
and in 9 more seconds (9/60)*30 = 4.5 mtrs

now the total gap bet. train n car = gap bet. train n cyclist at the time when train overtakes cyclist

so dividing by the relative speed of car n cycle i.e. 20-10 = 10
we get the time taken is 1444.45/10 = 144.45min = 2hrs 24 min and 27 sec
