For the starters, Quant Question a Day was started in Feb 2006 and as the name suggests - was primarily 1 quant question a day, though we kept it dynamic for short durations with even 3 problems in a day. The 1st edition went on till November 1s week and in all 264 questions were delivered along with 2 sectional tests.
The 2nd edition of QQAD started in April 2007 - the format was same as that in 2006, but some additional sectional tests were also delivered. We ran a mini survey last year to know what users think about QQAD's problems and not surprisingly more than 60% rated the problems as tougher than CAT quant questions. 2% found QQAD as child's play.
We would love to start QQAD's 3rd edition but this exercise should have good reasons and motivation.
(1) We have no concrete proof of the fact if QQAD did really help puys score more marks in quant CAT. A good number of QQADites made to IIMs in 2006 and have calls in 2007, but we never ran any statistical test for the Assertion : "Did QQAD help them score 99.XX?"
(2) Do people see us as just another time-pass product or have faith in QQAD's methodology to teach and benefit aspirants?
(3) Is the existing format good enough to be carried forward or you want some changes in the teaching methods?
(4) We are terribly short of the bandwidth. Would be great if a known credible face of PaGalGuy.com wants to join QQAD team.
(1), (2), (3) can be answered by people who have experienced QQAD in previous years. We would love to hear from them.
The people who have just joined the forum are best suited to answer (3)
(4) - I know many brilliant quant students here - but are they willing to venture into this?
If someone wants to and is unsure himself/herself about what is there in this for him/her - then please avoid exploring.
My 4 years stay on PG.com tells me, Quant section is the least frequented one here - and yet it's the most beneficial one if % of result produced Vs time spend is to be computed.

my opinion abt QQAD ::
Does it help in CAT quants ?
I think QQAD problems are not about just solving , but learning from them. Its like in nets if u practice against warne(QQAD) and in real match u have to face spinners like brad hogg(CAT quants), you may get bowled many times in nets but the thing is u learn and be prepared for a great great googly from Hogg ( rare case ).
Quality of solutions provided by QQAD team ?
I think the manner of explaining the solution and the funda used to solve is most of the time top class. And if someone come up with a better solution the team always accepted the better one and made it the official solution.
I would like to join QQAD team as support staff till june 1 for sure, after that it all depends on my IIM result. But will definitely try and follow it regularly.Lets rock guyssssssss
Cheers

Aaravji your Quant threads were one of the main reasons I joined PG
For point 3, I feel we can carry over the same methodology of studying and make changes if and when required. A very diplomatic answer eh

Hi Aarav ,
I have been following QQAD for the past couple of years and here is my observation on the same ..
Q1 . QQAD didn't help me score 99.xx to be honest . It helped me get 97+ consistently in all my mocks and CAT but never did it help me get 99.xx .QQAD is an amazing concept with some brilliant questions and equally brilliant answers .. It does help one to think laterally and throws up new ways to tackle a question. Even in the QQAD tests I managed to get enough answers correct so as to ensure a 99+ as per the QQAD analysis posted after every test . Still I never managed to reach 99+ in CAT . It has more to do with other sections as well . Solving QQAD in the confines of our home is far different from taking CAT when the other two sections are staring at u , esp when one of the secn is a dreaded one . It helps one to have a brilliant foundation but it should also address the issue of managing the same performance in QQAD with the other two sections on .
Q2. Yups ...Most people take it to be a series of question , which , if u know the answers to , would make u a 99+ in quant , coz these questions are different and it has an inherent tag attached to it . QQAD needs to be taken religiously and seriously to get the real benefit out of it .
Q3 . QQAD as such is perfect . I wouldn't like to see any changes in it . All I am saying is solving QQAD for 50 min is different from solving a 2.5 hrs paper with Verbal and DI and still maintaining to get that 50 min solving perfectly for QQAD .That would actually help us to better ourselves in handling pressure across the three sections . Solving under pressure and still being able to think that clearly is what matters and we should try to achive the very same thing . Something I would like to see in QQAD this season :
a. To start it early with more questions and regular tests from the beginning
b. Get questions which takes a totally out of the box and lateral thinking . We need more of smart questions than difficult questions.
c.Increasing the level of QQAD as days pass so that everyone can adjust to the rising difficulty level .
Q4. With all those brilliant people around , I better keep my mouth shut and be under the tutelage of my patrons ..But yes would like to send in my set of questions on and off when I get time . I really won't find time to get questions regularly but would definitely like to contribute as and when time permits .
Am a normal puy with not so high understanding of things , I have just told what I felt I should have . Do ignore my comments if they don't stand the test of verity . It is only puys like you Aarav who inspire me to have my faith of making it to the very sanctified interiors of the red brick walls . Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts

Although QQAD questions are really good but frankly they are above the CAT level. Having some quant tests of 1 hour each and providing the solution to people who solve it would be a great idea as compared to every day questions.
Also, as someone pointed out methodology is more important than solving the question itself. My suggestion would be bringing down the level of the questions a bit and I am sure more people will feel benefited out of it.

QQAD is a great initiative and I will be first one who want it to continue
QQAD problems vary in difficulty and are not child's play The way a person approaches a problem can be greatly improved because we interact with so many here in QQAD. In short, the thought process involved in solving a problem will be refined if one is a regular here. The variety and uniqueness of the problems puts QQAD above and beyond many similar ones in the market.
QQAD can continue with the existing format. I really don't see any major flaws with the teaching method I would love to solve a problem every day and I hope you guys will not play around with the original idea. However, my only concern is some refined/concrete way of concept-building along with solving a problem every day.
I am sure that many PG-ites share the same thoughts
Aarav bhai, Quant section might be the least frequented one here coz of the hype created over VA/RC in the last two years. But we never know with CAT, IIMs might again come up with a very weird/very difficult QUANT paper and QQAD serves the purpose of posing one with all kinds of problems | | | | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to krsh.vik For This Useful Post: | | | | | |

| Aarav bhai -- Correct me If I am wrong
I believe simulating test conditions is not the idea of QQAD The idea of QQAD is to help its followers master in tackling any kind of Quant section in CAT. What OperationBLACKI is saying is not practically feasible since the strategy one adopts in exam varies and it is upto the particular person's comfort level to decide how to approach Quant section of CAT. How best to approach a CAT paper, one can take mock CATs of various insti's | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to krsh.vik For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
