If x = 3/4 and y = 1/4, then which is the highest odd n for which (an)/(bn) > 1.05?
21
20
17
19
23..

highest odd is 19

a2n+1 = n(x+y) +x
b2n+1 = n (x+y)+ y
put k =10
10.75/10.25< 1.05 so so we have n= 19 as answer..
please explain this one i am not understanding

are
Let a1 = x, b1 = y, where x and y are positive.
an = x + bn-1, bn = y + bn-1 for even n > 1.
an = x + an-1, bn = y + an-1 for odd n > 1.
a1 =x b1 = y
a3 = x+y +x b3 = x+y +y
a5 = 2(x+y) +x b5 = 2(x+y)+y
a7 = 3(x+y)+x.............

now a19 /b19 = 9.75 / 9.25 > 1.05
a21/b21 = 10.75/10.25 < 1.05

1)Varun and Rahul sit together, Rahul asks varun find the sum of the sum of the digits of all natural numbers upto 10. Varun quickly answers 46. Rahul again asks what if we find upto 50, varun takes some time and answers 330. Rahul stands up and says, Can you find it for 2008, and do it before I count upto 20?

2)Each day, Chetna is either happy or sad. If she is happy one day, then four times out of five she is happy the next day. If she is sad one day, then she is sad the next day one time out of three.
In the long run, what are the chances that Chetna is happy on any given day?

3)Let the net profit when pencil, pen and eraser are sold respectively at 20%,30% and 40% profits be 10% more than that when they are sold respectively at 40%,20% and 30% profits. Let K be the net profit when they are sold respectively at 30%, 40% and 20% profits. Then the least value of K will be?

(a) 10% (b) 15% (c) 20% (d) 25% (e) None of the foregoing

4)On a regular Chess Board, the numbers of rectangles such that in each one of them the number of Black Houses is equal to the number of White Houses are
(a) 896 (b) 1036 (c) 1156 (d) 796 (e) 856

5)Let a, b, c be distinct non-zero integers such that -5 <= a, b, c <= 5. How many solutions (a, b, c) does the equation 1/a + 1/b + 1/c = 1/(a+b+c) have?

a) 72 (b) 120 (c) 192 (d) 240 (e) none of the foregoing

6)One day Vikram was out bicycling. After entering a one-way tunnel and after having ridden one-fourth of the distance through it, he looked back over his shoulder and saw a bus approaching the tunnel entrance at a speed of 80 miles/hr. Doing a quick mental exercise, Vikram realized that if he accelerated immediately to his top speed, he could just escape with his life, whichever direction he rode. What is Vikram's top biking speed in miles/hr?

Correct answer mark1
Wrong answer -0.25

here is my approach........There can be 5*5*5*5*5 cases out of which only 3000 cases are considered.....so the neglected cases are 5^6-3000=125
Let a student marks x correct answers and 5-x wrong answers......Then the total marks obtained = x-0.25(5-x)=0.75x-1.25 >0 => x>1.6666

The number of correct ansers written by him for a +ve result >=2
There are 4 cases...some students marks 2R 3W ,3R 2W,4R 1W ,5R 0W..
Total number = 5C2*4^3 + 5C3*4^2 + 5C4*4+1=821..........

But we need to find the least number = 821-125= 696 Answer
