vineet bhai question smajh nahi aaya..when u say distance VC is 3,it has to be shortest straight line distance from V to C...toh phir yeh minimum distance ka matlab kya hua from V??Plz explain???

sahi yaar....kuch clear nahi hua!! does the particle take the path only on the circumference of the base?? if yes then only VC can be the min.!! or C takes path on the surface of the cone also??

Not the base circumference neessarily .

Ok think what happens when you cut the cone along the line VC,where C is on the circumference.

Can you imagine a sector of a circle?

What path should the particle choose?

@Vinnet.....
when the particle takes the path on the surface, will it be a parabola or sector of a circle??
still struggling...

It will be a straight line.

Consider that after being cut, the other end of point C is C'.Then CC' is a straightline nd also the shortest path along which the particle moves.

if u cut a cone along any line joining its vertex and a point on its circumference and then spread it out it forms a sector
