General Knowledge section for IIFT,Xat

Guys,guys...
This is Vikram ,am a Mechanical Engg. from NIT Silchar, currently employed with TCS,m posted at Mumbai and m in the 10th month of my job.
The purpose of starting this thread is to get some insight into the preparation strtegy for the G.K section of some of the elite B-schools like XLRI,IIFT,
Recently I was goin through some of the questions and they did not seem to follow a pattern.
Does it require cramming the stuff like books and authors,History et al.?
Senior junta kindly throw some light.

Good thread if no thread already exist... But I guess it does try searching for "General Knowledge" with the quotes. You will get loads of info.

However, can I take some time off and ask you guys about having the knowledge of Law for XLRI (XAT). I have heard that people who have had legal education are preferred for XLRI as well as get a few extra marks?

hey guy
the gk is quite tough
. especially in iift it was of ias level like name of ancient rivers. but dont worry it carry low marks than other sections except in irma where it is based on society.

I had received an IIFT call, couldn't convert it.
Had got 98.xx %ile in GK in XAT.

All I can suggest is
1. Reading newspaper daily is essential.
2.1 month before the exams pick up Manorama year book.Its thick, but can be done .Do it page cover 2 cover.

Hi Guyz,

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...............GK, well As u can see from my logo, am joining iift this yr.And had got 99.77 %ile in GK in XLRI.

How did i prepare. Well I bought
Career econmy(special as well as monthly issues for 6 months starting from May)
Management Compass(CL walon ki mag)-Oct-Nov issue
PT - Gk questions booklet(they gave it 4 free) and a lot of stuff from their website
Last 3 -4 yrs sample papers(mainly from time and some other coaching insti's)
Competetion success review year-book(manorama is also fine)
and of-course read the news papers

well i dont think crammin books will help you coz if u cram all the authors and books u know u might at best get one question on it and that too at most!!

but keep tabs on daily news starting today....i wud suggest the following links on PG

For d previous yr ques papers......well u can chek d PT( Professional Tutorials) site....dis wil definatly help ur cause....

n reg..Gk...already u hav a big deal of info cumin ur way.....
plus u can also read B& M chronicle....its a nice colection which provides evry tit bit of info in a structurd maner...
