hey have a doubt regarding cat solutions 2003 retest ofcourse. the qno 97 in my cat bulletin has a question regarding this a,a+2,a+4 are prime numbers then how many such are possible??? i think there is only one(3,5,7) but in cat bulletin its given 2. can someone who took test last year like ghulan etc explain???
Just check again. The answer has to be - only 1 such a=3.
If it's not, then perhaps some printing error on IIMs part. They can't get it incorrect.

Hi

I seriously think the answer option printed in the CAT bulletin is Wrong. The answer is one 3,5,7.

everyone may be correct here but i personally dont feel that the iim's would print the wrong answer. i think that the iim's consider negative numbers to be prime also hence a can be -7 or 3. note also that the values a, a+2 and a+4 are given as such that even the negative values can be taken. a, a+1,a+3 could also have been given but in that case no negative value could have been chosen. think about it.

since we're on the topic so can anyone explain to me how the answer for q.55 which is the inequations q. is 4 and not 3... thanks

I dont think -7 can be considered a prime because apart from 1 , -1 is also a factor. This negates the entire rule of prime numbers..
