1. Seven British Pound = 1G------ 6S------- 23K-----?

2. “This part of my life is called – being stupid”. Whose life?
3. Bollywood movie”Akele Hum Akele Tum” copied its plot from Kramer vs Kramer. Anu Malik was inspired from Last Christmas. What did the movie copy from the movie Sleepless inSeattle?

4. This lady has a world famous brand named after her. She died in 1929 at the age of 39 because of tuberculosis. Her father used her name on the products manufactured by him for good luck. Name the brand and the name of the lady?

5. Connect the following brands Aston Martin, BMW, Bollinger, Sony, Rolex, Seiko and Omega. There is common thread that runs among all these brands. Just detail the connection. Even the name or number will do.

6. Identify the country/state that issues this currency. The three languages used are English, Tamil and Hindi?

NATA made mandatory for architecture students
In a major step that affects the future of many architecture students, National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) has been made into a mandatory requirement for getting admission into an architecture programme anywhere in India, in any university or college. Many institutions, including NITs, have shown their willingness to join the test while many State governments have already conveyed their consent to participate in NATA from the next academic session.

ENVIRONMENT
Why the Cyclone in Myanmar was So Deadly? It was Asia’s answer to Hurricane Katrina—though with a reported 100,000 killed, it was many times more deadly. Packing winds upward of 193 kilometres an hour, Cyclone Nargis became one of Asia’s deadliest storms by hitting land at one of the lowest points in Myanmar and setting off a storm surge that reached 40 kilometres inland. Forecasters began tracking the cyclone on April 28,
2008 as it first headed toward India. As projected, the storm took a sharp turn eastward. But it didn’t follow
the typical cyclone track, which leads to Bangladesh or Myanmar’s mountainous northwest. Instead, the cyclone swept into the low-lying Irrawaddy River Delta in central Myanmar. The result was the worst disaster ever in the impoverished country. It was the first time such an intense storm is known to have hit the delta. The Irrawaddy Delta “is huge, and the interaction of water and land lying right at sea level allowed the tidal surge to deliver maximum penetration of sea water over land”. The delta had lost most of its mangrove forests along the coast to shrimp farms and rice paddies over the past decade. That removed what scientists say is one of nature’s best defences against violent storms. “While we can never pinpoint one disaster as the result of climate change, there is enough scientific evidence that climate change will lead to intensification of tropical cyclones”, said Sunita Narain, director of the India-based environmental group, Centre for Science and Environment. “Nargis is a sign of things to come”, she said.

PERSONS
Deshpande, Nirmala

Noted Gandhian and Rajya Sabha MP, Nirmala Deshpande died on May 1, 2008. She was 79. Popularly called Didi, Deshpande’s small and petite exterior hid a resolve of steel. Best known for her efforts to promote the Gandhian ideology, Deshpande was also deeply involved in ensuring an end to communal violence and trying to build peace between India and Pakistan while dedicating her life to the service of the deprived and the downtrodden both in the country and outside. She vowed never to marry. Daughter of famous Marathi litterateur P.Y. Deshpande, she started her tryst with destiny in 1952 when she joined Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s Bhoodan yatra, walking more than 40,000 km to propagate the ideology of non-violent revolution and gram swaraj. She led a satyagraha on the Indo-Tibet border in 1977 for the cause of Tibet, and espoused the cause of Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar.
Kishan Maharaj
Tabla wizard Pandit Kishan Maharaj died on May 4, 2008. He was 84. He was considered to be one of the
finest players of the tabla in the country. He had his initial education in music from his father Pandit Hari Maharaj and later, after his father’s premature death, from his uncle, the great maestro of his time Pandit Kanthe Maharaj. Under such an august tutelage Kishan Maharaj took the Benaras style of tabla vadan to greater heights. He would be remembered for his rare ability to play cross rhythms and produce complex calculations,
particularly in tihai patterns. His Tala Vadya Kacheri with the Mridangam Vidwan, Palghat Raghu was truly mesmerising.
Prachanda (Pushpa Kamal Dahal)
After 25 years underground and a decade of armed struggle across Nepal’s jungles and hills, Maoist leader Prachanda has finally savoured victory at the ballot box. His Maoist party emerged victorious in the landmark elections in early 2008, to rebuild Nepal after a bloody civil war. The former guerrilla, whose nom deguerre means the fierce one, has reaffirmed his commitment to democracy. Born into a high caste but poor farming family, Prachanda, whose real name is Pushpa Kamal Dahal, was a brilliant school student and gained a degree in agriculture. But the extreme poverty he witnessed in rural Nepal spurred an interest in politics and he moved
politically to the left. Married with three children, his interest grew in communist groups that emerged in the country in the late 1960s after the father of the current king Gyanendra banned political parties. The chaotic Cultural Revolution in neighbouring China inspired him, as did Peru’s Shining Path Guerrillas, who also took their inspiration from the revolutionary theories of Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong. He went underground and, although he never fought in combat himself, became chief military strategist of a group of rebels committed to a Marxism Leninism Maoism ideology.
