In these days of cut throat competition, an MBA helps in getting noticed by the corporate world.

Well frnds,

I feel that for a techie guy.....his thought process comes across a wall which he finds it very difficult to climb......a techie is not able to look beyond a certain point bcoz this wall obstructs his vision.....though MBA is not an absolute necessity but it does help u to ploe vault that wall....All the business laws and processes about which one has no idea gets to know all of these at an MBA program....being an MBA also increases credibility of your profile...ie tomorrow if u wanna tie up wid some big firm for a business proposal and would wanna have a contrlling stake they wud first see how equipped u r to handle that role.....and if they see that u hv a sound backing from a good Bschool it allays all fears..

Hey pranav and shekhar, gr8 post d00ds..... personally, pranav ut answer seems gr8 for the interview... and i added a couple of lines from u what u wrote to mine.

Now coming back to reality.... ideally yes! i needs to know all that.. but let's talk practicality, because this is not an interview, but a chat betwn few wannabe MBAs..

The thing is that when u are finishing ur graduation, all u want is to become self-dependent... or if u are doing a job, u need a raise. You don't give much thought to whether u want to develop some attitude, skills, etc

This time, it is just the cash in ur mind, or as they say.... Its all about the money, honey! and from the latest news headlines, people know the money MBA graduates are making (highest this year is 1 crore! gr8 no need to play KBC now )

So, when a person hears that this is the highest figure, he knows that in that case, even an avg MBA would get around 6-7 lakhs annually... So then they don't really think about all that about job changing, problems in B-schools, what they learn would be what they intended to learn, etc etc Yes! they would be having these short term aims in mind and frankly, that is the case with 80-90% ppl...

They know that when they have money, they can have all the comforts in life... isn't that why people work... to earn money... and that is precisely my thinking!!
Its all about the money, honey"

ya i agree with u ,my friend .money is the motivator. But this is the case with ppl without
work ex or with little work ex say less than 1 yr for more exp ppl there is always a problem in promotion /independent way of working also .so to counter that ppl look for
MBA with some work ex so that they get better package, better responsibilities and status
with lateral placements from MBA institute

For some people mba helps them to rise the corporate ladder
For some its money
Some take it as any other degree like ca, cs and cfa
Some does it to build their intellectual level or rather self satisfaction
Everybody has their own answer,
I want to do MBA for my self satisfaction as for me money is secondary factor. My main aim is to learn things and a top grade b-school is of great help in not only teaching theoritical perspectives of business but also practicals through case studies and presentations, side by side it builds your personality to face the world in times of crisis
As MBA helps people to get their dream job it definitely is worth something

i wud agree wid most of u bout th money part of it bt it is also true tht one needs to grow intelectually fr he has his personal goals to meet up with..
i wud also like to add tht it gives u an edge over others wen u ve sum kinda responsibility or u can ve an edge wen u ve to prove ur worth as there is a huuuge diff between how a pro works... i mean it shows...
so mba is a necessity if u wan to excel in professional world!!

but i guess v r missin th point here, this thread is bout is MBA still its worth which it had 5 yrs ago...
does the mba hold the same value which it did 5 yrs ago wen there wqere only few mba coll... now the scene is really diff coz u ve so many mba coll and even more mbas in th market. counting out on th b grade coll but th a n a+ grade coll ve also grown in number cosiderably so wat does this imply??
will this mean degradation of avg. salleries or less opp. to all of us??

if th circus is comng2town n u paint a sign sayin 'Circus Comin 2 th town Saturday, that's ADVERTISING.
If u pt the sign on the back of an elephant n walk it into town, tht's PROMOTION.
If th elephant walks throu th mayor's flower bed, tht's PUBLICITY.
n if you get the mayor 2 laugh bout it, tht's PR
