Coaching classes for CAT ?? -
07-04-2004, 12:20 PM
Hi Friends
Im Darshan, currently working in Tata Honeywell Ltd.
I recently joined.
Planning to give CAT this year.
I hope my association with this site would be helpful to me and all.
I have this query.... How useful is taking coaching classes for CAT ??
Can one prepare at home with the appropriate study material with him ??
Or taking classes actually makes a lot of difference ??
I hope i get quick reply.
Have a nice time.
Darshan

HI Darshan,
I feel if u have the materials and if u feel that u can study everyday without any help then that will be the best solution. But u need to go for the test series of diff institutes...that is very important..

Hi,
Going for classes helps you in the sense of you will be forced to maintain a schedule and it's easier to ensure that you do some regular work.
Also being in contact with people taking the CAT helps you know what kind of work you need to be putting in when.

Hi Darshan
I too agree with curio... coaching classes do help...u need to know the competion, u need to feel the competition, and also interact with them!!!
If u r already aware of the patterns of exams, the people, ur strenghts and weaknesses (VA,DI,RC,QA)...and know how too work on them, then it'll be ok that u do self-study. And yes, a regularity and determination is well needed if u wish to succeed!!!
I'll suggest, whateva path u choose, self-study or coaching, do join test-series of a good reputed coaching class. It helps a lot!!! A whole lot.
Best of Luck, for ur decision and also of the exams later in the year.

HI FOLKS,
Self Roshan. my sis passed out from TISS in 2001 and many of my sisters friends who were keen on iim`s and made it to the same in 2001 and some in 2002 did not join any coaching classes for the written prep.
they did collect study mat of diff. classes and networked and appeared for the test series of ims/cf.
however they did join coaching for GD/PI as it is much required to make an impact, as there u are face to face with competition and interviewers.
they enrolled with prof. kamat of mumbai (cell: 982019406 (tiss 89 alumni), who is a very sr. hr mgr with a reputed mnc. my sis said he is fundooo..and the ultimate in gd/pi. most eng. and non-eng studs of mumbai are groomed by him. his classes go full and slots have to be booked about 6 months in advance.
since am appearing for cat in 2005, will myself enrol in due course of time.
culd u be so kind as to help me out in terms of letting me know whether there are any private tutors in mumbai for cat writtens, like there are for iit`s. also how is brilliant tuts mba correspondence prep mat.
till then bye.
thks and rgds.
roshan.

The MOCK CAT series are NECESSARY
So are the GD PI Practice sessions ..
You need not join the regular classroom program if you are confident you have the drive to work hard !!
But I wud suggest, if this is your first attempt, joining it will help !!

I would suggest TIME. Coz I have been thru the IMS experience
I think there is not much diffrnce between the two (It usually depends on the centre and the faculty as well).. and TIME has more mock CATs and is cheaper as well ..
