Maaru take

Someone please post rest of the answers

1.This is a half volley to start with – X has won man of the match in all those matches when his team has scored the highest innings total (Highest Totals in all formats of International Cricket).Who is X? Sanath Jayasuria

5.Find the connection in following w.r.t their Test careers – Billy Ponsford, Greg Chappell and Mohd Azharuddin? (There is one obvious answer which comes to mind immediately but I want some more connection. Full marks only for that whole connection) They made a century in their first and last test

7.This should be a full toss!!
The Australian Broadcasting Corp. has kept its POST BOX number as XXXY.What is XXXY and what is the reason behind this (XXXY is a 4 digit number)? 9994, Lifetime test batting average of Sir Donald Bradman

8.This is one of my favorite questions as it includes two of my favorite sports and believe all should crack this one. (Just read carefully.)M with his brother N is the only pair of brothers to have been part of winning teams of English County (Cricket) championship and FA (Football) Cup in same year. They share the second name with a famous scientist (Recall Physics lecturesJ) .While M was better in Cricket field, N was better with Football. Who are M & N and what teams they played for in Cricket and Football respectively? (Ok. Finding it difficult!! … ….. Final Clue – M shares his first name with the famous creation of Hank Ketcham ) Dennis Compton and Leslie Compton

10 This player played for two different countries in Tests hitting century on debut for former country. For the later country he played as a captain and was quite succesfull. This player holds a unique record of not getting out for a duck in his entire ODI career (Only player with more than 100 matches to do so).Who was this player later turned captain?[/quote] Kepler Wessels

I have a doubt in Q-8
Both garo's and khasis are inhabitants of Meghalaya allthough a very few of them also stay in Assam. Bhils are probably from andaman nicober.
And both Garo and khasis are mongoloids.
So the question is not correct.

Re: The Official GK Thread for B-School Entrances 2007-2008 - 28-09-2007, 02:10 PM

ok am posting the answers for the cricket trivia

1.Sanath Jayasuriya is the correct answer. He made 157 when SL made 443 in ODI, 340 when SL amassed 952 in Test and 88 when they made 260 in T20 and got MOM in all these matches.

2.The latest instances of the highest wicket taker bowling to the highest run getter in ODI and Tests respectively. (Cannot wait to see SRT break Lara’s record and face Murali.)
3.The elite list was – ‘The list of players having Highest Individual scores in an innings in both Test and ODI for his respective country’.Jayasuriya was the first in this list after his 340 and 189, then Gary Kirsten joined him with 275 and 188*.Gary was removed by Graeme Smith (Smith made 277).Then Jayasuriya was ousted by Jayewardene (374).Finally Hayden becomes the sole member of this club (380 and 181*).

4.Glen Turner is the player referred here. Indian connection is that his wife Sukhi Turner is Indian. She was born in Ludhiana and married Glen in 1973(Guess she was quite lucky for this chap who hit 171* and 114* in 1975 Prudential WCJ). Sukhi made a hat trick of becoming Mayor of Dunedin from 1995 to 2004.Many answered Zaheer Abbas (Kirmani) (the clue non-English, non-Aussie cricketer to hit 100 centuries might have caused this but he never hit a massive inning as Glen did. Good guess though)

5.Correct answers are (I have considered two answers here) –
I. These players made Century on First Test and Last Test of their careers. II. They made Century on Test debut against England.

6.The answer to the question is Sir Len Hutton who made 364* (Then Highest Score in Tests by a batsman which stood for some 20 years.) in England’s total of 903 (Then Highest Team Total in tests till SL broke the record after 60 odd years ) which helped England beat Aus by an innings and 579 runs (Still the record for highest victory margin in tests). Now many Quizzers pointed out that Hutton was not the second best after Sir Don and Wally Hammond (his captain in this historic match) would be the better No. 2 to Sir Don. All I would say is that I read this quote of Sir Wally Hammond himself who praised the then 21 year old Hutton for his grit, patience and determination and he himself compared Hutton to Don. There’s not much differentiating the two English stalwarts in respect to their Test careers. Hutton made 6971 runs at aver. 56.67 while Hammond made 7249 runs at aver. 58.45 though I myself have to admit that Hammond has many massive innings to his name and a far more glittering First Class career as compared to Hutton. My Apologies to all who had answered the question correctly but don’t score for this question.

7.The no. is 9994(not 9995, 9996, 9997 as many answered). So I have given no points to those answers in vicinity of 999_ (Don would have been very angry on me had I done thatJ) Reason we all know – The average at which Sir Don retired in test cricket.

8.Dennis Compton and Leslie Compton played for Middlesex and Arsenal (Full Marks only for full correct answer!). I was very delighted to find so many Quizzers cracking it. Can’t help myself from sharing this funny incident relating to Dennis Compton’s ‘famous’ absent mindedness (Which very often used to cost his partners their wickets in run outs. He even ran out his bro Les in Les’s charity match on duckJ). Peter Parfitt, the Middlesex and England batsman was a speaker at a major celebration in London for Compton's 70th birthday. He claims that the chief guest was called to the telephone by a lady who had heard about the dinner: eventually, he agreed to take the call. “Denis,” she said, “it's me, your mother. You're not 70, you're only 69.”
9.The answer is that all the mentioned players here took a wicket of their first balls in ODI. Inzy was another member of this club.

10.The player in quest was Kepler Wessels who played for Australia and South Africa(Captained S.A. in many matches)
