Why Poor Acads?

I am a CAT aspirant and i'll be taking the test in 2009.. My worry is not about the preparation but about my academic record..

10th CBSE - 81%
12th CBSE - 71%
B.E until now, 75% with one arrear..

Being considerably poor in acad history, what chances do I have to make it through to the IIMs..

I am sure I can do well in CAT and in the GD/PIs..

Barry, if you have the confidence to do well in CAT and the GD/PIs, then what are you worrying for? For the record, my acads look like this:

10th CBSE - 85%
12th CBSE - 67%
B.E. (Civil) - 62%

I had an IIM convert, an XL convert, and an MDI convert, along with a few others....get the drift?

Just focus on clearing the written exam, nothing stops you there....after that, you can prepare for interview questions that challenge your acads, ok?

hmm.. thanks mate.. that was quite a confidence booster..

I was wondering too much about the past, letting the future slip.. So just wanted to know about the trend.. and whether its possible.. thanks for the info..

Forget about past acads. You can't change it. Only IIM-B cares about past acads. Thats one reason I don't like their slection process because you are eleminated even before you apply if you have not done well in acads in the past.

IIM C director has clearly mentioned in the PG interview that for C past acads do not matter.

I would also like to give an example of my friend who had very poor academics - second class in engineering. He made some mistakes in CAT tis year and got just 98 point something. He had just a single call - IIM-L. They asked him why poor academics. He said frank "Yes. I did not study properly. I relaize it is a mistake. Now 4 years have passed. I have learnt from my mistakes. I plan to make amends in my MBA." No bullshit such a "I was not well" or "I focussed on extra currics". He was scared that such a frank reply may not be acceptable. I assured him what he did was right. And when the final results came - Yes. He had made it. he is now in the first year at IIM-L.

i'm in deep trouble rite nw.. i gt only 49.41 percentage in my grads. and i'm totally confused now. i'm looking for a job rite now and planning to give improvement paper. can any1 plzzz suggest me that wht kinda job can a fresh bcom graduate can get which wil be counted in my work ex

• The reason being in the year 2001 when I got into dce, I had also appeared for iit and missed it by a whisker. So I decided to give iitjee another try next year. As things went, I missed iitjee next year and also ended up with many backlogs in the first year in my dce. But the good thing is I managed to clear these backlogs within the stipulated time of 4 years, came out with 2 jobs in hand. Subsequently also did well in professional life.
• Also another thing I would mention though it is not a substitute for BE marks. I had appeared for GATE 2005 mechanical engg paper and got 94%ile there. So my mechanical is not all that bad!

Phew!!... thank GOD ... that does instills good hope... Thanks a ton.. I'll do the same and be honest..


One more question ....

Final year ( my degree certificate shows this class - first class ) - 61.xx%

Total B.E. %age - 57.4% (

what should I tell them.. my degree certificate shows first class but overall it is second class.What if they ask my percentage...I wrote my overall in the CAT form to avoid rejection.

Plz help...

Incidentally my firend also had 57% from Mumbai university. They won't ask you your marks in interview. They will have copies of your marksheet and see for themselves. You don't have to say anything.

if u get good work experience then your academy doesn't matter more. I know it will a struggle to find a job @ such grades for bcom fellas however work in small organization then move onto big firm
