I think it the Budget 2007 will be a very important topic for discussion. Please know details of the budget. Get any major newspaper Times of India, Eco Times, Business Std, etc of 1st March. They will provide a good insight into the budget.
Key Points: - Tax exemption raised by Rs.10000
- CST cut down by 1% to 3%
- No change in Service Tax (was expected to increase)
- Excise exemption limit raised to Rs.1.5 crore for SSI
- Excise on tobacco increased
- Increase in allotment of funds for Health care and education
- Special 1% cess for Secondary Education. Therefore, highest tax slab increased to 33.99%
- Very little attention to Infrastructure
- No sops for Power Sector
- Tax benefits for pharma companies for Clinical Trials
- Excise for Cement costing more than Rs.190/kg to be Rs.600/tonne and excise for Cement costing less than Rs.190/kg to be Rs.350/tonne
- No excise cut for automobile industry (was expected)
- Fiscal Deficit down to 3.5%
- Tax collection increased by 20% (Rs.25000 crore)
- Excise cut for petrol and diesel. May lead to price cut by about 50p.
- MAT tax on IT companies. May hit profits by about 4-5% for IT companies. Smaller cos may be hit harder.
If anyone can add any more info please do so. I hope I have got the details right. If any mistakes, please correct them. | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to prancing_tiger For This Useful Post:

Please read about current Punjab, Uttarkhand and Manipur elections.
Punjab: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)+ BJP alliance beat Congress. Prakash Singh Badal of SAD to replace Cpt. Amarinder Singh of Congress.
Uttarakhand: BJP clear majority. Set to replace Congress. No confirmation on who will be the CM
Manipur: Congress will retain the government. BJP routed.
Main factors in these elections: Price hike, Inflation, Anti-incumbency factor | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to prancing_tiger For This Useful Post:

Thnx | Use the National Informatics Centre websites. As well as Wikipedia. Information searched for and browsed will stay firmer in your mind than information given out in coaching centres booklets. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to kaa For This Useful Post:

Also it is just a huge database of stats and figures. As such there is no anaylsis of all the figures. So its no point simply by-hearting the numbers.
