Solid DI #55 DIRECTIONS for questions 1 to 4: Answer the questions on the basis of information given below:
Xim is a game in which you have two or more piles (or containers) of objects (marbles, beans, whatever). The two players alternate moves, taking any amount of objects from only one pile, in any one move. The object of the game is to be the last player to take any objects. Player 1 starts the game.
1. If the object count after the seventh move is as shown below, who will win and from which pile will the last object be picked?
#1 #2 #3
1 3 2
1.
Player 1, Pile 1
2.
Player 2, Pile 2
3.
Player 1, Pile 3
4.
Player 2, Pile 1
2. Referring to question above, what was the position after the sixth move?
#1 #2 #3
1. 3 5 2
2. 5 3 2
3. 1 3 4
4. 1 5 2
3. If there are 38 objects at the start, distributed as shown below between the three piles, then what is optimal strategy for player 1 for the game’s first move?
#1 #2 #3
18 11 9
- Take 16 away from pile #1
- Take 5 away from pile #2
- Take 3 away from pile #3
- Take 12 away from pile #1
4. 3 moves after the start of the game, the situation is - #1 #2 #3
2 5 7
What could have been the situation 2 moves after the start of the game?
#1 #2 #3
1. 4 11 7
2. 2 11 7
3. 2 9 7
4. 2 5 9
Tried around 15 mins on the first two questions! couldn't get any proper answer :(
Is there a method-formula for such questions? If so, plz put it up!

ideally it means if you have two groups A & B, with x & y objects, the person can pick up either x(or less objects) from A or either y(or less objects) from B.

Also , though this may sound a li'l arrogant don't you guys think these Solid DI questions are a li'l too easy ? I am asking this because normally in IMS exams I suck at DI , hovering around the sectiional cut-off - Or is this going to be the kind of questions we get in the CAT ?
Thanks

Solid DI #57 Refer to the caselet below:
Lala B L Sahay has recently acquired four companies viz., Bank of Bozoland (BOB), My own Bank (MOB), Zany Obliterated Bank (ZOB), and Dogmatically Obscure Bank (DOB). He noticed that the sales of DOB are half that of BOB whereas the profits of DOB are double that of BOB. The expenses of ZOB are Rs 3 crores less than that of DOB whereas the profit of MOB is Rs 1 Crore less than that of ZOB. The expenses of BOB are three times that of DOB. It is also known that the sales of ZOB are Rs 15 crores or one-fourth that of MOB. All figures are for 1992 – 93. Note: Sales – Expenses = Profit An insider further informs Lalaji that the sales of DOB are Rs 10 crores more than that of ZOB and the expenses of BOB are 90% of its own sales.
1. The total sales of all the four companies is (Rs crores):
(1) 200 (2) 150 (3) 125 (4) 160
2. The expenses of BOB exceed that of ZOB by (Rs crores):
(1) 34 (2) 43 (3) 33 (4) 62
3. Which company had the maximum profits?
(1) BOB (2) MOB (3) ZOB (4) DOB
4. The expenses of MOB exceed the profits of BOB by (Rs crores):
(1) 51 (2) 52 (3) 53 (4) 54
5. Total profits of the four companies is (Rs. Crores):
(1) 15 (2) 20 (3) 25 (4) 40
6. The profits of MOB form what percentage of the expenses of ZOB?
(1) 16% (2) 20% (3) 15% (4) 23%
