Sorry for the one day delay... Just wanted everyone's opinion...

You can start the database right away. We have a sea of scattered data here on PG. Organise the data present here and make it available to us PGites There are umpteen questions in Quant section, English Resources and their likes.

ANd once finished we need few volunteers to collect and store the data which at present is scattered in PG....

Yaa it can be like this....Ne question in the database will have 3 attributes Section,type,answer....

Sections - quant,EU,RC,DI,DS,LR
Type - para-jumble, sentence correction .....etc etc..

SO one can ask for ne type of questions..they can take a full CAT test..or take a sectional test..or else can practise perticular type of questions....


But then i got a doubt where will you implement such a database???? is PG willing to allow it in this forum??????

deepu has a point here... we would the questions mostly from our study material. wil lead to copyright probs...

yaa because of copyright issues i dont think PG will allow this to happen..but if ne1 can find out a solution then it would be great...

Very rightly pointed out :smile: If this was about aggregating questions from various institute's material and sharing them, then forget it..Out goes this thread !!! We do not allow distribution or sharing of any copyrighted material... :smile:

dear moderator we very well know the rules of PG.we have a prob here.this database is not intended to share copyright material..but then how can we distinguish copyrighted material ?? when everyone can add questions..how can we know which ques is copyrighted??

we are waiting if some1 can come up with a solution to this prob..

You are right... The reason i was hosting this on my forum is that i don't want the admin and the mod in here to get into copyright issues.... I had one doubt.... I see that this forum contains many questions right?? Aren't these taken from various sources... Why doesn't this come under copyright? I'd be happy if someone would clarify this... And also, we won't be adding question just like that... I'll be putting a disclaimer which will say that these are just for educational purposes and if you would like to remove any question, please email us and we'll do so... What do you think about that...?? If i host that on my forum, do you people mind registering yourselves again at my forum ( i don't think spending five minutes
on registering would cost you that much) I'm planning to keep the classification that deepu had suggested.... And each test will have its own discussion thread in which people can discuss tough question from that test, or strategies on how it could be approached....

I wouldn't continue till the mod here replies because i respect admins and mods a lot (i'm an admin myself ) Expecting a positive reply... After all, if anything found is copyrighted we'll remove it immediately... What do you say? Else, we'll start off with some old CAT Question papers...

1) Discussion is different from giving sets of questions for download

2) We neither tolerate posting copyrighted stuff nor do we tolerate any links to the same, be they anywhere on the web. The idea is not to "hurt" your prospects, but to respect copy-rights for what they are !!!

3) The initial doubts that I had of surrogate advertising now seem to be coming clear !! Let me advise you, we don't allow that too !!

4) Disclaimers are just that !!! Disclaimers..They don't absolve you of anything

Maybe a misconception but i'm not giving any questions for downloading purpose.... These are online tests... thats all... Suppose that we take this forum where "everyone" discusses questions... People keep putting in new questions and then others reply... Can't i copy-paste a question into a newly created Word Document? That means Violation of Copyrights again... What i'm doing is letting people first answer a set of questions so that they can assess where they stand... I'm sorry if i'm wrong but your experience is greater than mine Sir. So, i'd like to learn from you on how to deal with this problem...

You will have to get in touch with a IPR lawyer for that But again, leeching off an existing resource and creating a new one isn't exactly new-content-generation...Which means it is violating copyrights !!

Well... It is a pity that no one is able to find a proper solution on how this could be done... I don't understand why we can't form a database of questions when people are putting clear cut "ripped from the book" questions in the forums in the name of discussion. Though CAT is not what i'm aiming for, i was still ready to help people who were preparing for CAT. Anyway, i'll be still open if someone finds out a preper solution...

Kudos to you for making such an initiative. I too donot see how posting questions leads to "infringement of copyrights" as our Mod puts it.
I am no law expert , but as far as my logic goes, copyrights are applicable on information, data , technologies..not questions! I mean imagine getting sued for putting a question which was already asked by some one else! That sounds absurd. That way, why is somebody not suing the CAT coaching institutes for pulling off articles from their publications to use as RC sets?Isnt that a much greater offence since they put it on print? And how do we presume all the questions that we get as printed material from our institutes are exclusive to themselves?

And Purifier, I have some thing which will make your task easier. U can create databases on Baseportal.com, which is absolutely free and easy to maintain. You can also get your own URL.

Thanks... The mod seems to be not ok with our idea... Anyway.. .I have my own website which is already having everything ready to create what an online test needs... If it is agreeable, i'll post the link to my site... What do you say... I just created a few question from the old papers of the famous GATE examination, i talked with a lot of professors from whom i've heard that there won't be any problem... If you people want even CAT papers probably, i'll give you my site URL... Because right now, it gives you how many question you answered right and how many you got wrong with explanation... And then i'm now implementing negative marking too... So tell me what you think...
