newe..jst 2 make it as simple as it shud be ( i like tings dis way only..i eman simple )
let total no of hdayz -h
x mrning it rained
y afrtrnoon it rained
nw x+y=13
h-x=11 h-y=12==> x-y=1==>x=7 nd y=6
thus h=11+x=12+y=18

one more puzzle -
02-08-2005, 03:26 PM
friends,
This is one more puzzle.I want to sum up all our brains for infosys preperation.Just for preperation.As I am solving some other puzzles,I thought if i give some puzzles to U ,u will help me.I want to tally my methods and answers with u people.And if possible to get easy methods from ur brains.
The puzzle follows :
Mr. ANYMAN left ANYTOWN by car to attend a wedding
at ANYCITY. He had been driving for exactly two hours
when the car got punctured. It took his driver exactly
ten minutes to change the wheel. In order to play safe
they covered the remaining distance at a speed of 30
mph. consequently, Mr. ANYMAN was at wedding half an-
hour behind schedule. Had the car got the puncture
only 30 miles later , I would have been only FIFTEEN
minutes late he told the driver . How Far is ANYCITY
from ANYTOWN.
Dont mind if get bored with my unneccesary stuff.
Reply as soon as possible.I dont have much time since the exam is on August 1st.Still I have to cover more type of problems.I want to tally results.so,pleeeeeeeeeeeeeez.
thanq.

funda is it rains for half days(eithrer morn or aftnoon)
u enjoy also halfdays (either morn or aftnoon)
so 11+12+13 give u total half days...divided by 2 will give ttal full days,...the ans.
i thnk this mehtod is simpler and more elegant ..
andy.

Coming to the puzzle,
Let L be the total distance, v be the velocity till the car breaks down and x be the dist from start where car breaks down for the first time
Now,
x/v=2--->>(A)
(L/v) + (30/60) = 2 + (10/60) + (L-x)/30----->>(B)
(L/v) + (15/60) = (x+30)/v + 10/60 + (L-x-30)/30 ------>>(C)
Figure out how i arrived at the eqns
Solving A,B,C
L=20 miles
You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club

A cow was standing on a bridge, 5feet away from the middle of the bridge. suddenly a lightning express with 90 miles/hr was coming towards the bridge from nearest end of the cow.seeeing this the cow ran towards the express and managed to escape when the train is one feet away from the bridge. if it would have ran to opposite direction(ie away from train) it would have been hit the train one ft away from the end of the bridge. Calculate the length of bridge.
thanq

The length of the bridge is 1188 feet and the speed of the cow is 1 foot/second. speed of the train is already given as 90miles/hr or 132feet / second.
phew....

dont u participate in the discussion of a new puzzle -
03-08-2005, 11:42 AM
here is a puzzle.
There are 5 positions-Clerk,Buyer,Cashier,Manager,Floorwalker.
THere are 5 persons- Mrs.Allen,Mrs.CLark,Twain,Ewing,Bernett.
Conditions: 1.clerk and cashier lunch time 11.30.to12.30
2.others 12.30 to 1.30
3.Mrs.Allen and Bernett play durind lunch time.
4.clerk and cashier share Bachler rooms.
5.Ewing and Twain are not in good terms because
one day when Twain retuned early from lunch
he saw Ewing already sitting fro lunch and reported
about him to the manager.
Find out which person holds which post.
My thoughts have gone like this.
1) twain saw ewing sitting earlier than time.both doesnt belong to same session.Nd twain's lunch session is from 11.30 to 12.30 ,ewing session should be from 12.30 to 1.30.
2) neither twn nor ewng cant be manager,coz one of them wanted complain about the other.
3)ewn and twain cant be either cashier or clerk(coz they share room),since they r not in good terms.
4)eng and twains ocupations may be floorwalker and buyer(dont know individual occupations exactly).
5)and I am not getting any more.
So plz frnds point out my thoughts and correct them plz
thanks with regards................deepika

hi deepika
this q appeared in our campus placement paper when i got selected for infy
n i was able to solve it...donno if there is some mistake in the q here coz i m not getting it now
c the catch is clerk n cashier share same room n they r bachelor
so they cant be MRS clark n MRS allen....n also eing cant be either of cashier or clerk coz of his timing of lunch is late....so we r left with berneet n twain ...but bernett plays with Mrs allen during lunch so they shd have same slot ...but that does not look here ..so ve u missed something...or i ve???
Work hard to get what u like
otherwise u wud be forced to like what u get
