Jan 2007 -> 100 thousand registered members!
May 2008 -> 200 thousand registered members!
Exponential growth it has been in the past season and with increasing MBA aspirants every year, this number is going to grow at a more rapid pace.
Lets do some brainstorming on this topic..
What do members think about this growth?
As a user, what do you see as positives/negatives of this growth?
What do the users expect out of the forum to keep more user involvement & get more personal touch?
Are the users happy with the way forum works or do they need any change because of more users?
What about the quality of threads? Has it suffered?
Should PG become a paid forum or limited free access forum?
Pour in your thoughts.. | | | | | The Following 26 Users Say Thank You to Mahip For This Useful Post: | amitajm87 (05-05-2008), amitnsitian (05-05-2008), Apurv (07-05-2008), chop suey (05-05-2008), coolguy1988 (06-05-2008), deep_agrawal (05-05-2008), diablorulez (05-05-2008), hareshmandani (05-05-2008), HarshaRocks (05-05-2008), jagannath_4all (05-05-2008), jshah29 (06-05-2008), kill_the_cat (05-05-2008), nishant_rungta (05-05-2008), PSL (05-05-2008), rani_das (06-05-2008), rpradeephere (05-05-2008), sharadkapoor (05-05-2008), sir roy keane (05-05-2008), sudoku (07-05-2008), sumitrocks (05-05-2008), swagatsinha (05-05-2008), swarnali (05-05-2008), ultra lord (05-05-2008), unleashthebeast (05-05-2008), utsavmamoria (05-05-2008), xcoolaryan (06-05-2008)

This is a great great great moment.....
I am booking some space. will giv these questions a thaught....and come back tomorrow... meanwhile soem quick thaughts for now....
-200,000 is a powerfull no. Although PUys have all always been responsible... as spiderman says....with more power comes more responsiblity and i think newbies should be educated about this by oldies. Lets all help moderators, more than ever before to keep the place clean. Lets also stop making fuss about moderators decisions and make sure less of banning happens this year.
- i dont see more users should call for changes...
- Paid, no way! its one beeeg happy family

Being a part of 200 thousand big PG is a great feeling Congrats to every Pagal on this achievement.
As for the issue whether it should be paid or free... then free mein spam karne ko mazaa aata hai
One thing though... users should be given a portion where they should feel free to write down whatever they want..... and no thread in that section should be closed..... Maybe we will have some great threads in the making then
And obviously all posts in that section wont be counted towards the total post count
The mods rock but we do need more mods
Since i dont usually write much so will end by saying
Jan 2007 ---> 100 thousand
May 2008 ---> 200 thousand
Jan 2009 ---> 300 thousand
Amen PG rocks
Rest later

negatives :- more redundant threads n more bans Quote:

Congrats to PG on reaching 200,000 user
Let me get straight to the point :
1. If PG has to keep the momentum going, it shouldnt make it a paid site, as the traffic it has and the lead it has over its rival is because it is free. It is because for free, a normal graduate can reach IIM alumni and clear his/her doubts.
2 Puys, who have made it big or cracked big names should or try to give forum something back by helping newbees.
3. Finally, more active moderators to sustain quality on the forum. | | | | | The Following 17 Users Say Thank You to rmbt For This Useful Post: | amitnsitian (05-05-2008), ani_svnit (05-05-2008), deep_agrawal (05-05-2008), HarshaRocks (05-05-2008), jagannath_4all (05-05-2008), kill_the_cat (05-05-2008), Obsessed_bout_mba (06-05-2008), rani_das (06-05-2008), RISING (05-05-2008), sarvshwet (05-05-2008), sharadkapoor (05-05-2008), sir roy keane (05-05-2008), sumitrocks (05-05-2008), swarnali (05-05-2008), utsavmamoria (05-05-2008), vinsdome (05-05-2008), xcoolaryan (06-05-2008)

Pour in your thoughts.. | a open community stands for free access..PG success is coz of users and quick access to information.. making it paid will shift the domain..
and as far Linux is taking over gradually.. open community is the order of the day.. we shd continue that way

Congrats to all of us, for reaching this huge number in such a short time! My take on the questions: What do members think about this growth?
The growth is wonderful to see. It testifies to the uniqueness of this forum and to the fact that with such a huge userbase, there is hardly any topic that one cannot get information or guidance on. As a user, what do you see as positives/negatives of this growth?
The positives are obviously - more talented users, enriching discussions, and more help available.
The negatives are - need for more moderators, decline in post quality, and lack of respect for forum rules by some users. What do the users expect out of the forum to keep more user involvement & get more personal touch?
I feel there could be more 'green mods' for each section, who could provide more attention to users who seem to need help, and overall add to the quality of the threads. Also, PG meets could probably become a more organised feature with a little section devoted to knowing newbies, and helping them with queries. Maybe, some oldie being invited to each meet could contribute to this. Are the users happy with the way forum works or do they need any change because of more users?
I think effective moderation is necessary. Probably, there should be some kind of orientation for new mods to ensure that they are able to agree on an issue (yeah, I know...spoken like an HR guy!). It has been seen in the past that one moderator thanks a post, and another one comes by to delete it soon. That takes away from the credibility of a mod. What about the quality of threads? Has it suffered?
In some cases, yes. Normally, if a thread has a few oldies, they do try to step in, and keep things in line with forum rules. But, sometimes, things do get out of control. Should PG become a paid forum or limited free access forum?
I guess it's just fine, the way it is currently! Any changes will not make PG as effective as it currently is. | | | | | The Following 15 Users Say Thank You to sumitrocks For This Useful Post: | amitnsitian (05-05-2008), diablorulez (05-05-2008), hai_vinu (05-05-2008), hareshmandani (05-05-2008), HarshaRocks (05-05-2008), jagannath_4all (05-05-2008), kill_the_cat (05-05-2008), PSL (05-05-2008), sarvshwet (05-05-2008), sharadkapoor (05-05-2008), sir roy keane (05-05-2008), swarnali (05-05-2008), utsavmamoria (05-05-2008), vinsdome (05-05-2008), xcoolaryan (06-05-2008)

Jan 2007 -> 100 thousand registered members!
May 2008 -> 200 thousand registered members!
Congratulations to all puys for this tremendous growth!
My opinion... Q.What do members think about this growth? A. It's a clear indication that PG is indeed reaching out to the masses...and will grow to unexpected heights in the near future! Q.As a user, what do you see as positives/negatives of this growth? A. Positives - more users,more information-sharing,more healthy discussions/debates,
more competition,more inspiration,more success and ofcourse more friends! Negatives - decrease in quality of posts,tough keeping checks on spamming,more difficult for newbies to gather relevant information on any particular thread. Q.What do the users expect out of the forum to keep more user involvement & get more personal touch? A. A humanatarian approach from the puys who have already made it big...they should try to devote some time solving the queries of newbies Q. Are the users happy with the way forum works or do they need any change because of more users? A. There is a need for more active moderators Q.What about the quality of threads? Has it suffered? A. It has indeed suffered(increased spamming) whereas on the other hand,the increase in the no. of users has also increased the probability of good posts. Q.Should PG become a paid forum or limited free access forum? A. No, PG should not become a paid forum else it'll lose its sheen. Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal! | | | | | The Following 9 Users Say Thank You to swarnali For This Useful Post:

Awesome growth!
My thoughts... Q.What do members think about this growth? A. Phenomenal performance. A very youthful feel to the way we do things here. No bureaucracy,etc.
There is potential for a lot more that can be done. Q.As a user, what do you see as positives/negatives of this growth? A. Positives - more users,more information-sharing,more healthy discussions/debates,
more competition,more inspiration,more success and ofcourse more friends! Negatives - Some tools are missing. Instead of being limited to merely discussions, we could have more tools on the lines of PG-Connect. Q.What do the users expect out of the forum to keep more user involvement & get more personal touch? A. Have more PG meets where newbies get opportunities to turn up in large numbers... a newbie PG meet of sorts. I think the initial hesitation of making that first post is partly because a lot of newbies see others being corrected on posting irrelevant stuff.
Knowing a couple of ppl on the forum can help.
Maybe a newbies session on shoutbox on certain days of the week I doubt if SB regulars will allow tat Q. Are the users happy with the way forum works or do they need any change because of more users? A. We need more moderators. Q.What about the quality of threads? Has it suffered? A. It has. Cant we restrict permissions to open new threads to puys with certain number of posts n above? It will improve things. Q.Should PG become a paid forum or limited free access forum? A. No. There are several other unique and better ways to generate revenue and funds.
Lets hope we touch the 300k mark sooner than we all anticipate
