Hi,

I've a few suggestions:

1) Threads and Forums:-
Just like we have a forum "B-School Discussion for MBA Abroad", similarly there can be a forum for Indian B-Schools, which would contain threads specific to B-School's queries, life, admission, placements, etc.

2)Official Threads:-
There are a few threads which come up every year like IIM Final Call List, IIM Converts, Batch of 2007-09, etc. Can we make these more prominent on the website. Like.. After making them sticky and official, we can place them in a section which is visible on the main page. This section would contain the listing of all important threads, so that number of search hits could be reduced and also reducing the possibility of a new thread coming up for the same purpose.

3)Delete Threads:-
When a new thread comes up which is elsewhere present (i mean a similar thread is there), then admin should be able to delete thes useless threads. At present a thread is closed. But y to keep that thread info in database when it can be deleted as well.
Also some old threads which server no purpose (containing very few posts) can be deleted.

Here's a feature that I think would be a nice add-on to PG :

When I thank / groan at a post, I often want to add my comments about WHY I'm doing so. Currently, we have to quote that post and reply to it. I think it takes unnecessary space on the forums.

Why not let the user enter his or her comments in a small pop-up when thanking/groaning ? The comments could then be displayed during a mouse-over event or something when someone places the cursor on the thanks...

an option - 05-04-2007, 10:03 PM

Guys,

whenever we thank someone we get the line which reads
"The following users thanked/groaned at xyz for this useful/unuseful post"
but most of the times it happens that we thank because we liked a post.
not neccesarily cause it was useful.
and thus in certain cases it becomes meaningless when there is a post on PJ and the line reads useful post.
it could read something like
"the following users thanked/groaned at xyz for this good post"
good is apt for all ocasions.
irrespective of weather it was a PJ or a B-School related issue.
what say?

one more!!

whenever we post something in a new thread, the notification for the same becomes instant. which means that if there is any new post for that thread, an instant e-mail notification is sent.
though this is convinient at times, its not something that is preferrable all the time.
why is the default for this as instant Notification.
can we be given an option at the time of posting itself, so that we dont have to go and manually turn it off.
this in my office with such slow net connection is a pain.
and by the time i turn it off, there are a couple of posts which means a couple of mails in my inbox waiting to be deleted.

Go to User CP
-> Edit Options
-> scroll down to the Messaging & Notification section
-> Default Thread Subscription Mode
-> choose whatever you wish as your email notification settings.
This is for auto subscription of all the threads where you post an message.
you might have to change the setting of individual Threads where you are already subscribed to you will need to change the settings manually from

User CP -> New Subscription threads -> click on the unsubscribe link beside each subscription listings there.

Thanks

hey bharathraj1,
I suggest you to do a little modification in your Location field. put one space between each places so that it will not be a single word. The result will be that the user introduction section that is shown in each post won't be so wide and will result in a neater UI
so instead of
Mangalore-->mysore--->bangalore---->mangalore
make it
Mangalore --> Mysore --> Bangalore --> Mangalore

Waise ye hai kya circle me ghoom rahe ho tum haan..

Others who read this post can also apply this or similar tips to make the UI neater and consistent.

Thanks

abhinav_kishore:

That is a pretty neat idea! It does make good sense for someone to put in a reason for why they thanked/groaned at a post. I'll keep that in mind during the development process.

general-to-all:

Let me explain something about the vBulletin forum system. The thank/groan functionality is not part of the standard vBulletin software. Much of the stuff you see on pagalguy forums has been added in as hooks into the software. These hooks are basically plugins (either developed in-house, or 3rd party) that provide marginal functionality and user experience.

Most of these plugins are open-source and thus open to customization. Sometimes it's not all that easy though. We'll keep plugging away some of the bugs till the redesign. But most, or all, of the feature requests might not begin to show up until after. I am maintaining a list of all desirable features and believe me, they will see the light of day!

Cheerios!

Hey guys,

Dunno if this concern has been voiced before, but I just can't seem to operate Shoutbox properly while using Mozilla.
I enter a shout... It takes ages to show up... And if I try to post in the meantime, I get a 'Posting in progress' error.

I hate having to use (ugh) IE just to get into SB. Bijay...?
