NITIE vs IITB(SOM) - 11-05-2004, 12:51 AM

Hi frens,
u would have understood my problem from the subject itself. I have a waiting list no. of 31 at NITIE. I hope to make it to the final list at NITIE. I also have a final admission at IITB(SOM). And i also paid my first sem. fees at IIT. I am facing the greatest dilemma ever ? which one to join. I know that some people would say that NITIE is an automatic choice.but then these days, IITB is also doing great. That is what i hear. Most people say that IITB(SOM) has already equalled NITIE and will actually overtake NITIE, for that matter a lot of other B-Schools in the next 2 years.

I have two years of work ex. in IT with one of the big companies in India. I will most probably do my specialization in Systems(Info. Mgmt).

I would request u people out there to come out with ur suggestions as to which is better.

Thank u for ur time and anticipating some responses.

Regards,
Bhukta

hmmmm...

Its a personal call between two Tier 2 institutes (Tier 1: ABCL,XL). Neither is CLEARLY better than the other. Gather your own facts and decide on parameters that are important to you.

For starters visit the threads "IITB vs IIFT" and "IIFT vs NITIE vs MDI" postings of mine.

It is very easy to make sweeping statements like "one is heaven in front of the other" but OPINIONS NOT supported by facts dont make much sense. The earlier post was a loose opinion made WITHOUT even a glance at the SJMSoM syllabus which is very sad.

The fact remains that you will learn SCM, Logistics management and ERP at SJMSoM as well. In fact you will learn all of these even if you go to IIFT (which has carved a niche in IB) and these are available usually as core/elective at most of the top 25 schools.

if i had the choice, i would have definitely gone for iit bombay...nitie is way too specialised...iit bombay has many advantages...for systems it is THE BEST...no foreign placemnts in nitie...but around 20% of the batch at iitbombay gets placed overseas....brand name is just way too good for iitb sjsom....and yea...ater 2 years or so when u should be coming out itbombay will be a tier 1 insti along with the IIMs...go for iit bombay...no point in pondering over this selection...iit bombay rocks!!!!

Ricky:
The last 2 years batch strength has been 46-48. 20% is still impressive. Hope this helps.

Which of the two is best for SYSTEMS? some are saying it is NITIE but some say it is IITB(SOM)...where lies the truth?
There is something which I'd like to point out here. Normally when we say systems specialisation...in IIM's/XLRI...it refers to Information systems..and hence the course content is majorly IT based. I am not very sure about IITB, but atleast in IITD, the MBA in systems refers to Systems Approach to management...and not information systems. So i think you should clarify this point before you decide.
Furthermore, I dont think NITIE is best for systems(Not even for info systems..IIMB is supposed to be best)....as far as I know NITIE is considerd the best for OPERATIONS
Hope that helps
ATB
