Re: Target CET10 - 04-11-2009, 11:40 PM

guys its a question to all the mba aspirants 4m maharashtra i want to know if there is any bias towards mah. students in CET coz i've heard that only 15% ppl are chosen from north india in MHCET(i m 4m lucknow).so the big questio that i wanna raise is that is MHCET really a viable option for north indian students or MHCET is reserved only for "marathi manus"???
im really interested in sindamham, sies,n.l dalmiya etc.pls rply@all
my intentions are not to fuel a north india vs maha fight i jus want to clear my doubts. thanks in advance

Hi

There is a standard distribution system which I dont think can be termed as bias. you are clearly mentioning NORTH INDIA and marathi manus in your query. to answer that

some facts

1. the distribution of seats goes like this. 70% for people from mumbai university which is home university for mumbai colleges. 15% for people outside mumbai but inside maharashtra. rest 15% are reserved for All india students who are not from maharshtra but wish to take CET/CAT/MAT/ATMA/XAT and apply to colleges coming under DTE process.

2. the distribution has been like this for years and there isnt any bis towards a particular region of india say north/south/east/west.

3. 15% is a huge number and these seats dont have reservation. (SC/ST/OBC etc.) imagine a college with 120 seats. it will have 84 seats reserved for mumbai people but that will have almost 50% reservation so open seats are only around 38-40. No. of all India seats will be 18 without reservation.

4. When I am saying 70% reserved for Mumbai University candidates it means people who have done their 10th 12th and graduation in Mumbai. it doesnt say 70% for marathi people. so a student irrespective of his caste/religion/language/origin is eligible. to add to it go to DTE's website and check last years data of any college. I think by surnames you will be able to gauge the no. of students from various communities that have secured admission and not only marathi people have made it to these B-schools.

I was just stating the fact but forgive me if this response was rude. there isnt and should not be any debate as to who gets into a bschool as it is related to Intellect and efforts and not religion/caste/region.

hope this will help everyone. dont have biases guys. give your best in exam. rest everything is secondary.

thanks and regards

@sawant prasad
i appreciate ur help thanks alot buddy
but the point that i'm trying to make is that a college should provide equal opportunity to all the students of india not favouring any particular city lemme explain wid an example u must have heard of colleges under delhi university like SRCC,delhi school of economics etc now they dont have any kind of special reservation 4 delhi ppl do they?? no they dont!
but these things are beyond our control so cant help them but still i'd like to know ur opinion
one thing more colleges like k.j somaiya who selects students on the basis of CAT does not have any thing to do with CET so they dont have any 70% reservation for mumbai ppl rite?

I agree to your point. but we cant help it.

in the later part of your question I think you are talking about the PGDM courses of few institutes. Some colleges have 2 courses. one is PGDM while other is MMS. the MMS admissions are through CET while PGDM admissions are handled by respective institutes and DTE does not play any role in it. I will suggest you to go through the websites of these colleges and keep an eye on the notifications so that you wont miss out on any chance.

regards
Prasad

dude...you freaking us out.JBIMS stands for Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of management studies. The name 'Bajaj' doesnt sound 'Marathi' by any chance. All this 'Marathi-North India' rhetoric is restricted to our political circles.Come to Mumbai once, you'll realise how accommodating the Educated Marathi people are.As far as BSchool admission is concerned, dont worry-Everyone's equal for the OMS qouta.

dude u r nt geting my point im not talking about the political B.S.its so easy for u to say all this coz u must be from mumbai n u have a biased access to all the wonderful colleges in mumbai but 4 a person like me who is from north india it becomes a daunting task to get into a clg in mumbai because of the reservation system. im not saying that mumbaikars r unwelcoming...my relatives live in ghatcooper so i know what the senario is there.
