Operations - 06-01-2006, 10:32 PM

Hey PGs,

I have selected Operations as my specialization. I would like to know which area in Operations (e.g.: Supply Chain Mgmt, TQM, production planning & control etc) has the maximum opportunities nowadays and also will continue to be so for at least 4-5 yrs. Do extra certifications in such area help getting a better - job & job profile?

Plz reply!
Bye!

heloo michel,
i guess u have done ur graduation in engg. what ever, u have made a right decosion by choosing operations as ur specialization. operations is one of the core area where all industries are looking for gaining the competative edge over their competators. it may be manufacturing or services like IT, ITES or BPOs.

as of my knowledge SCM (supply chain management) is the area where opertunities are green and will continiue to be green. other topic like TPM,TQM or lean manufacturing are equely good but for all these things knowledge of SCM is neccessary. many times opearations is treated as SCM. here i mean to say is SCM is the foundation for Ops.

xtra certification that will create a better edge is APICS certifications. it will give clear knowledege of ops and also helps a lot in making ur CV unique.
if u want more info. regarding APICS u can post me a Pvt message or even call me to <snip>.
(to introduce me to u, im a student of operations management in SIOM-symbiosis intitute of operations management. )

Eventhough it is the 1st year of SIOM, v r getting good responce from corporate world. our summers are going on well with decent stifend of average of Rs 8000/- and other benifits like accomodation depending on the company. it is too early to comment on finals now, but v don't worry about that. after all SIOM is under big family "Symbiosis"

helo ashwin, u need not to be panik. as u know on 26th there was a holidy, entire office work was postponed coz we (students of SIOM) had cricket match aginest faculty and staff. once SIOM receives DD from u, on the same day, if not, immediete next day it will dispatch the applications. i guess u stay in mumbai so it may take hardly 2 days to reach u tro' post.
nothing to be panic. njoy ur week end
