Hi Trotamundo,
I am peruvian too and I will apply to Ivey for the fall 2009 mba session. As a matter of fact I will be visiting the school in october in order to meet Niki Healey (had a previous interview with her in Lima 2007 at the MBA tour), some teachers and be able to "live" one class day visit.
I have read you can apply for this day visit and that your expenses are remboursables, that entails air tickets, transports and accomodation up to 1200 dollars. Is this right? have you heard about it? Besides this, does Ivey focus that much as US or some canadian BS do on the GMAT Score? What do you think?
Gracias,

Let me know of questions that I can answer. | Now, this is what I call a response! Dear Demandez, thx for sharing with us your extensive and useful info. It is very comprehensive and covers most of the material found about Ivey in the web.
My interest for Ivey began in 2007. Since then Ive been building up my career and will apply for entry next year. In fact Ill be taking the GMAT in November and cross my fingers to score at least 550. I am pretty confident about other parts of my profile; with humility but confidence I know it is unique and strong and hopefully it will compensate any potential GMAT failure. Lets see how it goes.
Congratulations on your admission to the program and I look forward to exchange more posts with you and other members in the future.
Godspeed

Gracias,
Lukacsdepereny | Habla Varon, as per your request here is the relevant link. You are right, travel awards for intl. students amount CAN$1,200 and are aimed at covering travel expenses (air ticket, accomodation, etc.) There is certain criteria to be met by applicants in order to be awarded. However I find Ivey´s info quite clear; if you are a competitive applicant you can expect some money back into your account.
Regarding the GMAT, Ivey does consider this test as an important factor for admission. Unless other parts of your application are very strong, a low GMAT (<600) will complicate your chances. However, dont let this put you down. For example, Stanford and Cambridge, to mention a few, have accepted students with GMAT scores well below 550. Bottomline is that bschools will accept individuals based on overall package perception. A 4 hour exam, even as important as it can be (or pretends to be), will never compensate years of academic and professional success. If your essays, LORs, GPA, work experience and extracurriculars are strong give it a try. And of course, ace the GMAT as much as you can. Best regards

Thank u caxola. I have a very weird but interesting backround: studied in Chile Hotel Management 1997 - 2001 (double degree, 1st place in both, GPA 5,85/7,00); direct admission to study in Toulouse France Licence 2001-2002(12,05/20) + Maitrise 2002- 2003 (13,61/20), trilingual (spa, fre , eng (ielts ac 7) Internships in Santiago, Chile; Easter Island, Chile; Lima, Peru; La Paz, Bolivia.
I work for a French Worldwide Facilities Management company in Peru; job exp 5 years (Im 30) 2004 as Head of Catering on the biggest gold mine in Latin America (cajamarca, peru, remote site facilities 1800 residents providing catering services, 85 workers of my resp.); 2005 as Head of Operations in Patagonia and in Tierra del Fuego (Argentina) providing catering and hostelry services for an important Argentinean oil & gas company (extreme weather conditions, 40 workers); 2005 Project Consultant for catering & hostelry services for Perus biggest Oil Refinery (Lima, Peru); 2006 Lecturer, Faculty of Hotel Management in a Peruvian University; 2006 - up to date Head of Operations in Perus 5th worldwide copper supplying mine in Ancash , Peru, (in charge of catering, hostelry, leisure and maintenance services for 2,800 residents, resp for 380 workers)
Planing to apply for a scholarship into a short term program (certificate) in Asia between feb-mar 2009. Two nationalities: Peru + Hungary & Canada (Permanent Resident)
Co-owner of a small creole retaurant in a low income district in Lima Peru; volunteer of a social program providing free catering services for 1200 poor peasant families; guitar player (self learning)
I believe that for a Peruvian its a well rounded resume due to the fact that most peruvian candidates have not got that much international experience which might give me a slight advantage. That was why I was asking about the importance of the GMAT cause I havent got too much time to study, I believe that with a 580 I could be admitted. I know a spanish journalist who entered with 480 gmat in CAMBRIDGE!!!.
Best regards,

Earlier, I didn’t realize that you were the Peruvian Guru (Vajk, if I rightly remember your name). I’d been through your previous threads and you have an incredible profile. Am sure you would crack your GMAT, either. Wish you good luck. Quote:

We both peruvian brothers (Trotamundo & me) are planning to go to Ivey too but perhaps on defered sessions (may - sep).
Great school, great know-how, excellent Post MBA hiring rates, salary and international gained prestidge.
I believe most Canadian schools benefit from these concepts.

Guys, since you both are preparing for GMAT, thought I must pitch in with the following the reference archives that I created whilst preparing for my GMAT.
1. The Communique - A collection of usage related pointers
2. The Sums - A collection of arithmetic concepts for competitive examinations
You might find these useful. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to demandez For This Useful Post: | | | | | |
