Guys,

I applied to the Jan 8th deadline and haven't heard from Simon since ... do you think it would be wise on my part to call or write to them ?

Like i mentioned in my last post, you should be very proactive in communicating with them. I personally beleive that's what made a big difference in my case at least...i mailed them several times before and after applying. Since you havent received your decision by the specified date, you must contact them and ask for it. I'd suggest email rather than call. Write to Greg MacDonald or Rebekah Lewin....be polite, not demanding. Show them your eagerness to join. Best of Luck!

Just checked my mail to find out that I have been waitlisted by Simon (I interviewed on 31 Jan in Delhi). I am looking for tips to clear the waitlist. Thanks for the help in advance.

My profile is:

GMAT: 720
Workex: 3.5 years (entrepreneurship+Family business)
Acads: Good
Extra curriculars: Good
Thanks again,
Varun
My strategy, if i were in your position, would be:

1. Write to them, say thanks for the decision.
2. Ask them politely where you fell short and what are their main concerns regarding your application. I think they'll either not reply or be too general and evasive, but it's worth a try. At least it will show your interest.
3. Send in another essay describing some new aspect of yours that wasnt covered in your earlier application. Maybe the essay could be about how you would contribute to Simon if you were selected, or how your profile and Simon form a great fit, or a summary of your extracurricular/social service activities and what skills they have given you that you could use in your MBA. Beware: this essay needs to offer a new perspective and needs to be very specific about Simon and you. If you recycle stuff from your earlier essays, you're out!
4. Get another recco from someone relevant. Maybe from someone under whom you've done some social work or a university project or extracurriculars or something like that.
5. Invite them to speak to your recommenders in more detail. Might not work, but worth a try.
6. Stay in contant touch with them on regular intervals and keep pushing your case.

Best of Luck!

Got my acceptance letter 2 days after my phone interview with an alum. The questions were very standard:

1) Why MBA, Why Now?
2) Why Simon
3) Describe an incidence you faced an Ethical issue
4) What is the most challenging aspect of your business and how you dealt with it
5) Describe how your experiences working with a team

The interview was very smooth, lasted about 40 minutes. Time went by very fast, I ended with asking him about his experience at Simon and Rochester. Asked him if there was anything he would like to see changed and ofcourse the clubs/biz competitions etc. Just relax, be yourself and a good sense of humor helps too. Good Luck.

Guys, I know this is really a blunder, but how much do you think calling in late would affect me ? I had an interview with an adcom member and I was stuck in office due to a production issue ... I had to get free, find a conference room and then call her. I know this is unpardonable, but the rest of the interview went really good.

Do you guys think that I might be pardoned ?

hmmm....it might have given out a bad impression, but from what i know of Simon adcomm folks (i've met nearly all of them), it shouldnt be a show-stopper situation as long as you politely apologized and explained your circumstances...coz they're incredibly sweet understanding people. Who did you interview with?

Also, folks above who've just recieved an admit...any scholarships? plz share. Anyone from mumbai...plz get in touch with me on PM.

Re: simon 2008 - interview and beyond - 11-03-2008, 12:53 AM

I interviewed with Tonya Harvey - Associate Director of Admissions. She said that I would have only 20 minutes for my interview as I was already 10 minutes late ... but then the interview went off so well that she spoke to me for about 35 minutes.

I have actually worked at Buffalo,NY and I also visited Simon when I was there last year. I also have recommendation from Simon alum who worked with me when I was in Buffalo ... So I was able to relate well on why I like Simon so much and how I already have a network of potential recruiters near Rochester.

Hi All,

Simon was my first admit, with $15K in scholarship money. I have since also been accepted to Owen, Mendoza, and Krannert. I am currently leaning towards attending Krannert at it offered me $28K/yr, but I am not sure if Krannert is the best fit for me since I am interested in finance/international finance.
