INSEAD cost/ financing - 12-10-2007, 12:08 PM

Hey Ppl,

I am considering INSEAD for 2009 and of the various issues on hand, one is of course the cost and financing. I would like to know what is your idea of the total cost and how you plan to finance it. May be our individual ideas can help create a better approach towards this.

INSEAD officially states the tuition fees to be at Euro 48,800 (hoping they dont increase it by 2009). But there are a number of other costs which need to be factored in to this. So lets say total tuition fees would be around Euro 52000. Then living costs which could be anything but considering us Indians and the exchange rate we have to sustain with, a simple set up would still set us back by about Euro 25000 for one year. So total if Euro 75000.

Indian banks are a bit stiff when it comes to financing something like this. The easiest loan would be for approx Rs. 15 lac although bigger loans are available but I wont really bank on them.

International loans are difficult to come by but I read somewhere that if your bank in India is willing to offer a loan guarantee to the European lending bank then may be it can work. But getting such a guarantee will an extremely tough task I guess.

Any thoughts?

Indian Loans: Centurion BoP gives loans upto 85% of the total tuition fees with a 100% collateral and an interest rate ~ 10%. PSU banks give loans of up to 15-20 lakhs with an interest rate ~11%
US Loans: these are a good option provided you have a guarantor in the US. You can get lower interest rates and a longer repayment duration.

A lot depends on which campus you decide to spend more time in...Fonty or Singapore...Housing costs are similar but other costs are quite different...Singapore tends to be more affordable...

I am a current student at INSEAD (Class of July 0. If you have any queries do feel free to get in touch with me.
