Hi,

INSEAD should be a very good fit for your goals.

Your profile is different and has international experience. You can definitely stand apart from Indian / IT / Male crowd.

Be focussed on companies you want to work with. Role and career progression post MBA.

If you want more specifics then feel free to contact me.

Hi Sunil,

INSEAD is known to be very strong in strategy.
It's got a very positive recognition in the market for it's rigorous coursework. INSEAD is 11 months not because of lack of studies but rather the fact that there was always a scope ( compared to US schools) to compress things into a 11 month marathon.

Initially I was also thinking that one won't do much in 11 months. It's just a stamping. But after interacting with students and see'ing their course content w.r.t top 5 schools in US. I am confident that the course will help you get 80-90% (if not all) covered. Rest is on you.
If it adds any weight, kelloggs's in US and our very own IIM-A / C also have 1 year MBA's. It just makes your student life more exhausting ( and not to be found hiking in columbia with fellow students on random walks every 2 months )

So INSEAD should be a very good school for you. You have relevant business experience and now want to polish it more

As for cost; INSEAD tution fees is 48,000 Euros. This is lower than US schools but definitely more than most other non-US schools. I guess the school considers itself (for a reason) in the same league as top 7 in US and so benchmarks fees in relativity. With a 11 month course your ROI is also bound to be much higher than anywhere else.

Hello Insead Admit,

Thanks a lot for your feedback. I have submitted my application in R1 for Jan 2008 intake. The interview intimation deadline is 11th May - so am waiting for that.

Do you suggest I retake the GMAT to increase my score in case I am invited for interview? My current score is 690 (80% quant, 85% verbal and 6 for AWA).

Appreciate your feedback.

I don't think retaking GMAT at this stage might be a very good idea.
For I am not sure how well INSEAD looks upon additional material / update between result and application submission.

If you are invited to interview then it then it's a very good sign.
If you are WL'ed then only I would suggest showing improvement by taking again.

Chill and best of luck !

Any more questions anyone ?

Hey Insead.admit,

I was under assumption that Landing into Insead would help me get into managment consulting kinda profile but one alumni from Insead told that it is difficult for Indian to get into consult especially from IT .Do you know about how many % of Indians get Management consult kind of jobs.

If it is difficult from insead which is assumed to be best place fo consulting then do not know which place can help me

Hi Insead Admit,
Thanks for taking so many questions
..i come from a common pool of IT-26 male, i will have 4 years exp by next year,
i have been working as a CRM consultant for the last three years,,,,i think this is something i can sell, in spite of being from an IT background,,,,my question to you is, how difficult is it to convince the adcom that u r fit to take a cross to finance/consulting, when i dont even know what is a balance sheet .....and insead being a 11 months course, does it equip the students for a career change from IT to say consulting,,,,,
Also, please do let us know if u have any info on placements in Insead for Indian IT male to say consulting/marketing,,,i think this is something that will help everybody in the group!...
cheers

Re: INSEAD admit taking question - 04-05-2007, 02:45 AM

I just got done with my GMAT and as is the case with many people, I am at that stage where it dawns upon you that the GMAT is such an insignificant factor in the whole process !

Here's a summary of my profile.
**************************************
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engg from the University of Bombay, India
Work Ex: Will be 6 Yrs if I start school in Sep 08
2 Yrs in India + 4 Yrs in the US
Experience Category: Indian IT professional (How big a drawback is this?)
(Average Career Progression) with a few awards at work
GMAT: 720 (96 %ile) (49/90%ile Q, 39/88%ile V), AWA 6.0
Acads: First Class in Engg, 88% in 12th, Merit ranker in 10th (All in all average I'd put it at Average)
Extra Currics: Very Active during Engg., not as much at work
Social Service: Mainly in the form of monetary donations.
***************************************
I want to pursue an MBA in Finance or Consulting

Please comment on the following,
1) My chances at INSEAD
2) Whether I can get a TOEFL waiver, given my experience and profile

I know I've posted this multiple times in different threads, just want to get a feel for things to come.

Appreciate any sincere input in this regard.

KK

Hello,

Cant comment on much else - but all I can say is that TOEFL waiver should'nt be a problem and my suggestion is to apply early in the application process (Round 1 and 2). Have submitted my application to Insead for R! Jan 2008 and am waiting for interview decisions which should be declared by end of next week - would be glad to be of any help.

Re: INSEAD admit taking question - 04-05-2007, 06:58 AM

Getting into management consulting was never easy (from anywhere, to anywhere).
Competition is intense. Almost all the class sends in application. Even those who have an i-bank offer under their belt !

so be prepared for some intense competition. No questions about it. But also let me ask you this way.
They said it was tough for indian/it/males to get into top mba's. you didn't (or will) didn't (or won't) you ?

INSEAD's track record speaks for itself. It opens the office of MC companies for you from throughout the world.

One tip: I am told last year McKinsey interviewed everyone who applied ! Imagine a company like McKinsey interviewing everyone who applied ( some 400 every batch? ). Says enough for the importance companies give to INSEAD for strategy positions.

KK:

Your profile looks good and balanced. Definitely encourage to apply. Try show your application as multiple sources ( work, life, sports, social service, etc).

As for TOEFL. all indians get a waiver. Indian colleges fall under the english medium teaching category.

Cheers!
Best of luck !
