Can property such as land be shown as assets?? Also how do they see if an already loan is held on say 50% of it?
Figuring out some way to start planing now.

Yes, they can certainly be shown as assets. However, the consultants advice to include them not as a part of your fees, but as items that would force you to come back to India in long term... Helps prove that you wont be an illegal immigrant...

If I am getting your question correctly, here is what the reply would be. There are cases when people applying upto 100% loans to cover their education have been granted VISAs. However, its better to show atleast some part of your expense in terms of personal / family resources.

With US F1, there are some 'better to do' things. However, doing these things never guarantees you a VISA... Helps??

When property is shown as assets, do we need to just mention them and the approx worth of them or also any loans against them?

I am applying for next year, i want to understand how much cash/liquid assets and other assets(such as property) that we need to have? I agree that it depends on institute you apply to. But I am looking from the angle of visa requirements for US/UK/Europe and from personal angle. Such that i can plan towards that end.
Also how are exsiting loans considered?

Thanks for your help guys.

Re: Financial Background Is it Important Factor for getting Student Visa ? - 14-04-2007, 08:57 PM

Hi,
I have a specific query relating to the I-20. I was planning to show my share holdings as a source of funding. However, the school does not accept this and has asked me to liquidate this before they can accept it as a source of funding. However, i want to wait for my visa before liquidating. Alternately, i can show the loan i have got from an Indian bank as a source of funding. But in the I-20 it will be specifically mentioned as a loan and not as personal funding. If the I-20 mentions the loan as my only source of funding, will it be a problem? The loan is adequate to cover my first year expenses and some part of the second.
I believe that we can show shares also as a liquid asset for the visa. I can show the original statements to prove my financial ability. But if the I-20 does not have any personal funds mentioned, will the consular officer believe that i have enough personal funds to cover the remainder of the expenses for the second year?

Regards,
vinod

I am not sure about the loan against existing property funda... Probably the biggies can enlighten you... but here are my two cents on the cash/liquid assets to be shown....

For I-20: The schools generally ask for 1st year tuition + living expenses to be shown in form of liquid assets (bank balance + FD)... The share holdings cannot be shown here...

For VISA: 1st year tution + living in form of liquid assets (as above)
2nd year tuition + living in form of movable assets (such as shares, bonds, etc). Some people also show non-movable assets (such as real estate properties) against second year....

I too faced this... and this question has many answers.... The best would be to get in touch with the International student counsellor at your school... I did that, and was satisfactorily replied....

Has anyone used a Current Account O/D as a source of funds?

Is this possible and if it is, how is it perceived (Good/Bad) in terms of VISA decisions?

Especially considering my other source of funds would be a huge loan :-|

Re: Financial Background Is it Important Factor for getting Student Visa ? - 20-04-2007, 03:17 PM

Hi Guys,

I have been admitted to mba at a US university.

After taking up a loan and using personal savings,I am still falling short of the amount which I think would be required to have a chance of securing F1 visa.
So does anybody know of any visa consultants in Delhi which might help me out with showing sufficient proof of resources in the form of bank statements, deposits etc.

Looking forward to your reply,

Cheers

Hi,

Can somebody please explain if we need to have a "bank statement" to show available funds at the time of visa interview OR a "bank letter" will suffice.

bank statement - letter showing all cr/dr to the account for a given period
bank letter - just stating the current balance in the account

if it is bank statement then how many months should this stement cover?

cheers!
