MBA is something in my nerves. I want to crack it either in -08 or 09. But the real problem is shud i go for the onsite and come back and give cat 09 ( with 3 years exp) or forget onsite and go for cat 08( with 2 years exp).

I have a feeling as 2 is the rte exp level for a mba aspirant. I may be wrong. any experts can enlighten me please...... will 3 years exp will lower my chances of being called for call.
If you want to do MBA in India, my suggestion would be do it as soon as you can (since you'll complete 2 years anyway). Onsite trip will definitely help you save some money, but then it will also take up your one year of experience. This one year would rather be spent in the career you choose after MBA rather than s/w. The job you get after your MBA will most probably be same whether you have 2 years or 3 years of s/w experience. So why not go with 2 and excel in your new job? Monetary difference will be insignificant over a slightly long term.

But take my suggestion just as suggestion. Decide yourself.

Let me try to answer this a little differently....

1. Why do you think onsite would hamper your chances for CAT 08 . Most of the onsite assignments are not as hectic as the same job in india and you will start to stick to particular working hours . You will have enough time to prepare but other things like test series and traveling here to take the test are the problems .Try to manage as much as you can, atleast give a shot. . Being a successful manager is also about delivering the best under the most tiring conditions, isnt it .

2. You are making the usual mistake that thousands make every year - thinking IIMs are the only way to a good MBA (I say this because, otherwise with 94 %ile you could have atleast tried for other colleges and not start thinking about the next two CATs). I agree that with 94 percentile you have a good chance but also think of the other 94-99 percentilers, the 99%ilers who dont make it to the IIMs this year and the whole new junta who will take CAT for the first time next year . I am not saying this to dampen your spirit but CAT is a uncertainty until you actually crack it .

Can anyone tell me whether 3.5 years experience in IT has any side effects during placement after MBA

No side effects. The main side effect would be yourself. If you're not clear on what you want to do, or if you do not know how to market yourself appropraitely. A recruiter will always take the more focused person who is presentable and knowledgeable in the area in which they are recruiting.
