I went through the interview process a few days back. It didn't take too long. I was asked about ;

Where are you going?
Why are you going to the university in question?
Where else did you apply? Have you studied in US in the past?
Why would you like to do an MBA? What are your currently doing?
What would you like to do after your MBA?
What did you do for undergrad?
What is the loan "mentioned on I20"?

I got my passport back from VFS with the visa stamped.

If anyone has any further questions please ask on the thread as my PM box is approaching its limit.

I thought my answers won't really help as they were specific to my case but I always get surprised by curiosity. Anyways, these were the answers.

1. To ABC univ for a 2 year full time MBA
2. It is one of the best and would help me achieve my career goals. Then gave some more detail.
3. I applied to DEF univ but couldn't make it to which the Visa officer(VO) said " Its tough" and I nodded Ans to part B : No
4. Talked about my post MBA plans. Told the VO about my current occupation
5. This question was asked in different ways but the answer revolved around career goals which were the same as in the essays. So I was hopefully consistent
6. Told the VO about my undergrad institution
7. Explained the VO, who grants the loan and how it is disbursed.

All the best !

See, the matter of fact is that if you have a very good profile, of course, the first thing that comes to VO's mind is your GRE/GMAT & TOEFL score, then the interview becomes a cakewalk, though that doesnot mean that you will surely get the visa, but chances are that you may not be grilled.

My Interview experience:

VO - Oh so you are going to Pennsylvania .. Why Univ of Penn ?
Me - Heading to Wharton at Penn
VO - Damn, my quota for sending people to Penn is over
Me - < Starts Laughing >
VO - How are you gonna fund it?
Me - Personal Funds first year, Loan the second
VO - Its so expensive
Me - <grin>
VO - Dont come back again, I wont give you a visa the next time
Me - <laughs>
VO - < waves me off >

Thus went my i/view .. no docs, no nothing.

Re: Visa Interview Experience - 29-05-2006, 12:20 PM

Hi All,

two years back, I appeared for Italian visa required for internship in Italy. I had all documents with me and that allowed me to face the interview. The interview was quite short where they asked my purpose of visit and how will I sustain myself over there. Everything well smooth and got VISA in two days. Even my firends who were heading for Germany, Austria and other european countries got visa without any inordinate delay.

I think USA has lot of ifs and buts to their visa processing. Otherwise if you have the all releveant documents, getting visa is not worrisome.

Abhishek

LOL..and I was thinking that very few people associated with PG would get to know if you decided to go to Wharton or not

For whatever its worth, Congratulations for the visa and getting a "cowboy" as your visa officer !
