Working Guys : How do u manage to study after coming to office ? - 14-05-2005, 07:59 PM

Hi everybody

I am almost a one year in IT insustry right now and palnning to take GMAT by Aug and then spend rest of time for CAT . As a college student my performance was quite good but am finding it difficult to study for GMAT/ CAT while working .
My percentile for CAT 04 ws 90.73
For CAT I somehow used to leve the office by 6 and go to bed by 7:30 -8 , get up at 2-3 and study till morning . Hwever the efficiency of my preparation was not that good as I used to be half asleep and sometimes sleep in between .

So , people who have made it to MBA while working , please let me know
1) AT what time did you used to study ( and for how many hours per day)?
2) How many hours per day u used to sleep ?
3 )Any methods u used to avoid sleep ? ( like drinking cofee etc ?)

Please reply to me no matter how silly this may seem to u .
I know I have the talent to make it to MBA in a good college but somehow no able to harness my potentila.

Ya.. thats a good question... I am in the same position as yours dude...
Thats the only downside to CATting with work ex... to make time to study...

How about we make this a discussion thing for working people who are CATing... I guess there must be a thread for that as well but after a bit of time threads lose focus... good to start again...

In my case, I get home at 7:30 on most days... and I personally just cannot deal with getting up before I wake up naturally.... i'd much rather stay up all night... I might quit my job in September... though its not something I want to do unless I have to...

Ok... so this is for everyone with Work Ex... currently planningto take '05 or have gotten through some decent place...
What gives guys?
How did you do it?
What all stuff should I be concerned about for CAT paper, GD/PI?

There is a trend of B-Schools slowly increasing their intake of people with work ex... there must be certain expectations from such people that B-Schools can't reasonably have from a fresher...

sharing of opinion in this regard will be greatly apreciated!

And before we forget...

HOW DID YOU "MANAGE" TO STUDY??

To tell u frankly, its little difficult to make it into IIMs like b-school with work......well its not impossible.

U just need to lose 1-2 hours of your sleep. Say, if u slept for 7 hours earlier...try to make it 6 to 5.5 hours.
Also, with work-ex its little difficult to take time out for friends n family. Coz u r devoting ur attention on work. n then suddenly U have CAT prep in ur hand. So, u need to move a little away from social circuit, for the last crucial six months. Rem to work smart (coz this is a world of smart workers n not hard workers); N single minded attention to ur goal is a must. Coz unless u feel d enthu' to go for CAT, nobody can help. So u need to make some sacrifices(arre only for 6-8 months).....then u'll b in d heaven of ur choice.

People, I m myself facing d same troubles n following the above mentioned tips. N if I can do it, so can u. After all u can always take out 4-5 hours for practice.

Cheers
SDA

I am a true believer that after taking ArginMax from GNC Store for about a month, every time I looked at my wife, I was ready.

hey u said it right....need to add a bit to it..

in the selection process to B-school....now there is priority given to working GALS(heard that gender matters here also) with 1-2 yrs ex ,preferably in NON-IT field......:whatthat:

anyways the b-schools will foresee us(working group) much ahead than a fresher ,bcz they expect us to be already put in and faced with a realtime ,stringent n hectic working environment where they expect us to show a real stamina to push through ...n finally its alll abt managing ur work and ofcourse ur BOSS ......
