POOR AWA score - 01-09-2009, 03:19 PM

Hi there.

I recently took GMAT and got my officail report today.

Following are the details:
Verbal - 38 (83 %tile)
Quant - 49 (87 %)
Overall-720 (94 %)
AWA - 4 (18 %)

While my overall GMAT score is ok, I feel like retaking the GMAT to improve my AWA score. I am planning to apply for MBA abroad. I have got a pretty good IELTS score (8.0). I am planning to apply for schools only next year. I have time to retake the exam. Could anyone let me know how significant is AWA score?

Please advise.

Thanks
Souji

I'd not recommend taking the exam again. If you take the IELTS or TOEFL and have a good score there, it can be a good offset. Plus if your essays are good, the adcom won't care much about your AWA. No point in a re-take just for AWA's sake - IMO

as long as u have a great ielts score , u don't need to retake the gmat !!! what if God forbid , u score less in other section? AWA only measures ur general arguing skills and stuff and i will strongly discourage u from taking the gmat again...... CONGRATS on a great score !
