Red face GMAT Appointment identification requirement mismatch - 09-04-2008, 12:02 PM

My Passport shows my name as "FirstName LastName" under the field "Given Names". But I used the name "FirstName and the initial of the lastname" while registering for the GMAT appointment. This is how my name is given in my degree certificate and birth certificate. The other details given while registering for the test match with the corresponding details on the passport.

From this link, Presenting Proper Identification
I understand that "The ID must be current (not expired) and legible and must bear your name in the Roman alphabet (as is used in this Bulletin) exactly as you provided when you made your test appointment, including the order and placement of the names".

This seems to be a big problem. What are the other alternatives to address this issue?
Will GMAC change the name and give me a new appointment receipt? Or should I cancel the test and book again?

have you tried calling up/mailing the GMAC support center? Rather than cancelling and losing money, try the simple approach. You never know, just might work out for you

I have similar problem. I had contacted GMAC and they had asked me to fax them the copy of my ID along with the cover letter explaining why the name has changed

Bye

Re: GMAT Appointment identification requirement mismatch - 07-07-2008, 11:56 PM

For your benefit here is the procedure....please pm me incase any clarifications are required....

first step: Call up your regional customer care. For India u will be calling a number starting with 012-.... once u call them and tell them abt ur complaint, one of the persons will be lodging an "INCIDENT" on your name(the old incorrect name) that person will also let u know the INCIDENT number. Then u need to call the other customer care number for the asia-pacific region(this number starts with 0063-....) the program co-ordinator is located at this number. Only he has the rights to change ur profile. Be prepared for some illegible un-understandable garbish accent from their customer care people...u cant understand what dey say....now u r requested to send a scan copy of ur passport to a new email ID. even if they dont ask u to do that, better if u ask them whether u shud send it or not(dats wat i did)...upon doing this, u will get a reply to ur email ID as to the action taken.

Remember: the name change can be done only if u complain 48hrs(working hours) before commencement of the exam. This is because in the last 48 hrs the system locks down your profile and den even the program co-ordinator cant change ur name. But still, u can take the exam if u can quote the INCIDENT number to the test-adminitrator at ur test-location......no hassles at all I have complained only 5 hrs before my exam and still came out fine....so..nothing to worry at all......

URGENT HELP NEEDED! Re: GMAT Appointment identification requirement mismatch - 13-07-2008, 09:45 PM

Hi friend,

Seems i met exactly the same problem as you. I am going to take GMAT tom morning but just found that the candidate name i registered is my english name instead of the my original name on passport... Sigh...

But obvioulsy none of the GMAT office is in office hour until mon 9am. What shall i do now? So upset...

i've sent emails to the coordinators but don't really expect response before my scheduled test starts...Any suggestions??

Many many thanks!
