Ramki

Thanks a lot for the info. I ve made my mind regarding MBA.

How do I get started for the GMAT. Can you tell me the sources from where I can get the material for GMAT plus what books/material one needs to prepare for GMAT.

I ve registered for the GMAT Fair by The MBA Tour (next weekend). Hope this will help me to narrow down the list of Question Marks.

If anybody else also wants to atted the MBA tour fair, he/she can register

Anyways ppl please keep sending your replies. This site is wonderful source of information.

Register at www.mba.com.
For preparation : Buy Kaplan 800/Kaplan GMAT/Princeton/.
Check out the other sites mentioned in the previous pages (like gmattutor/gmatclub/scoretop/testmagic). You will get a lot of info.
These sites should give you enough information about GMAT and how to prepare.
This should also help

I did not use these instructions, but they look good.

Hi guys,

After a long search i think i have now stumpbled on the forum on which i can get my query solved.

Well i am in final year of electronics and comm engg from NSIT DU. Gave CAT this year and performed dismally (94.80, Far far below my potential.) I have offers from TCS and IBM Global. Now i am going to give CAT this year again and hope to perform lot better this time.

It was bothering me that how much time i would be able to take out from my company and prepare for CAT. Will only preparing on weekends do? Workex people please clarify.

Since i am currently in 8th sem, i am absolutely free, and would remain free for another 6 months (before joining TCS/IBM). So isnt it better to give GMAT now and preserve the score (which i guess is valid for 5 years) rather than give GMAT after 2 years when i will be thoroughly involved in job and it would become very difficult to take out even 2 days from a week for preparation. Now i can devote almost whole of next 6 months in prep for GMAT.
Or will the 2 year workex will push my capabilities to such a level where i wont need much of a preparation and would obtain higher score than what i am capable of now?
So what will u advice me to do? Give GMAT now (with ample time for preparation) or after 2 yrs of workex (which , maybe, will help increase my scores)

desperately waiting for ur replies

anuj,
it makes sense to TAKE GMAT now...
even if ur not able to score 700+, u can always improve later.

& a job in TCS/IBM does not improve ur skills to such a leve tht u don't require to prepare for gmat... infact there's so much pressure n workload at times tht u may not even think of GMAT leave alone prep for GMAT.

read posts by 'flyingcolors'.. he took GMAT b4 joining infy...

Help!!! - 11-02-2005, 12:43 PM

Hi everyone.

I have a 29 months IT work ex. Obviously, I am bored with coding now.

But my prob is I have never taken any interest in MBA. My increasing frustration with this industry is forcing me to look for other avenues.

What do you specialists think? Should I go for CAT, GMAT or any other suggestions?

I am new to this forum. If I have posted in the wrong thread, can anyone guide me?

Cheers!!!

Is it necessary to join some Coaching Institute. - 23-02-2005, 01:05 PM

Hi Guys.

I logged in PG after so long. I was occupied with something else so GMAT took a back seat in my mind.

Anyways, I am planning to take GMAT in 3-4 months time. I am targetting 700+ score in GMAT. I wanted to know from the ppl who had been there and done that that joining a coaching institute is recommendable or not considering the point that I have prepared for CAT seriously.

If you recommend joining some institute, then which institute should i Join ( i m located in Bangalore) and how many months before taking GMAT,should I join the course.

Hope to get my queries answered soon

Thanks
Vishal

Frankly, it is not necessary to join a coaching institute, if you are ready to stick to a proper study plan. Give yourself enough time to prepare, but register for the test before you start preparing. That should keep you motivated enough to prepare. (This is subjective but it is good to chase something rather than prepare for something you don't know when you will chase.)
Avoid the normal institutes that prepare people for CAT. I have nothing against them, but they tend to use nearly the same material for GMAT.
Pick up 2-3 books for GMAT. Kaplan / Kaplan 800 / Princeton / Official Guide. (If you pick up the Kaplan with the CD, then don't bother buying their Verbal Guide. The questions available in their verbal guide and CD are the same. I did the mistake. ).
Use the internet extensively.

In case, you are interested in a coaching institute, try Kaplans. It is located in St.John's Church Road. (Ask for Fuji Foto Flash shop near Ulsoor lake and this place is around 100mts from there.) I have no idea about their coaching. So, cannot answer questions on that.
There is a Princeton coaching centre somewhere in Bangalore. I do not know the address.
